Minority Of Coeur d’Alene Idaho Residents Want Scheduled Production Of Rent Stopped Because Play Depicts “Fornicating” Gays And Lesbians, Colorado Attorney Arrested For Propositioning Pizza Hut Deliveryman Accuses Sherriff’s Office Of Homophobia, Warren Beatty Celebrates Transgender Son, Adam Lambert And Sauli Koskinen Arrested Jailed Then Released In Finland, Prince Harry Parties With James Middleton

Rent is opening January at the Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho but believe that the show should not go on because of what they call immoral behaviour in the musical. Rent has won a Pulitzer, a Tony and was made into a popular motion picture. According to Lake City Playhouse artistic director George Green, Rent is about "artists trying to make it in the world through their struggles, through their addictions, through their pain, through their sickness and overcome." The musical takes place under the shadow of HIV/AIDS, and there are several characters that are homosexual, and not everyone in the community is okay with the play being performed in Coeur d'Alene. KXLY reports that Arcadia Nicklay from Hayden says she is trying to raise her family in a wholesome environment. She thinks the right thing to do is pull the production. "It's not just because there are gays and lesbian involved. It's because they are fornicating gays and lesbians," Nicklay said, adding that their behaviour is immoral. "There are still absolute truths. We are still, I hope, a society that says this is right and this is wrong," she said. Tom Bassler, also of Hayden, thinks this is a free speech issue. He doesn't see any problem with the play running and said if someone doesn't like the content just don't go see the play. "Just like TV if you don't like the program, don't watch it," Bassler said. But Nicklay believes even having Rent performed at the Lake City Playhouse contaminates the community and she's not alone in her feelings. The playhouse has heard from several people, with a majority supporting the play but some saying they do not appreciate it at all."What we put on stage we are not celebrating, we are not promoting the content that's on the stage. We are simply presenting content that is out in our world today. We leave it for the patron to decide," Green said. If the role of the arts to spur discussion, maybe change a person's perspective, or strengthen existing opinions, it would seem that the Lake City Playhouse's production of Rent has already done just that. "Rent will go on just like any other play has gone on," Green said.

Louisville Colorado attorney Daniel Lucas -- who received a summons for prostitution after being accused of offering a sex act in exchange for money to a Pizza Hut deliveryman earlier this month -- alleges that he was subjected to anti-gay discrimination by Louisville police officers. According to The Times-Call, Lucas, 43, said he felt that he should have received a warning for the incident because it was his first offense, and he believed if it had been a heterosexual man and woman involved, it would have resulted in a different outcome. "I think a heterosexual man caught with a female prostitute would have gotten a warning for a first offense," he said Wednesday. Lucas' status as an attorney is listed as active, according to the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Registration. Lucas ran against Paul Weissmann in the 2008 Colorado State House District 12 race and lost. According to a Louisville Police Department report, Louisville officer David Petek contacted a 22-year-old man on the evening of December 11, regarding a possible sex assault. The man told Petek he delivered a pizza to Lucas' residence at about 6:25 pm December 11. According to the police report, the man said he retrieved additional items from his car and, when he returned to the front door, the foyer lights were off and the door was mostly closed. The man said Lucas invited him to come in and he was on his knees in the foyer when the man took one step inside the home. The man told Petek that Lucas said he would give him extra money in exchange for sex, according to the report. "I do believe one or more members of the Louisville Police force are inappropriately anti-gay and gave me a summons for a first offense rather than (giving me) a warning," he said. He noted that while he did not feel that most of the Louisville officers are anti-gay," one or more members" are. Louisville Police Department Chief Bruce Goodman said that while his department has dealt with prostitution cases in the city before, he said he's never seen a prostitution case like this one, namely, involving a deliveryman. But, sexual preference played no part in Lucas' summons, Goodman said. "Sexual preference has nothing to do with it. It was the activity, not the gender. It's the actions that were illegal. Nothing else enters into it," he said. Lucas said he felt officers mocked him and also "snickered" on December 15 when they issued him the summons. He said one officer gave him a "sneer," looking him up and down and another laughed while taking his photograph. According to the police report, the deliveryman said Lucas tried to grab his arm but was unable to. Lucas alleges that detail was inaccurate, and he did not try to reach for him. Goodman said he could not recall any complaints being filed against Louisville police officers for anti-gay discrimination in the 18 years he has been chief of police. Lucas has no criminal record in Colorado, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. He is scheduled to appear in court February 9 at the Boulder County Courthouse.

Warren Beatty has finally accepted his transgender son, and, according to The National Enquirer, to prove it he celebrated with a family “coming out” party in Hollywood just a week before Christmas. Beatty and wife Annette Bening smiled for photographers when they went out with their four children – including 19-year-old son Stephen Ira Beatty, who was born a girl and named Kathlyn – at il Covo Italian restaurant on December 17. “While Annette has always accepted Stephen’s transition, Warren struggled with it,” an insider told The Enquirer. “Warren never stopped loving their child, but he had plenty of issues and fears to overcome. The bottom line is he missed his little girl. But he’s finally resigned himself to the fact that one day Stephen will probably have gender-reassignment surgery and legally become a boy. Warren still slips up and calls Stephen ‘her’ or by his birth name Kathlyn. But the bottom line is he’s totally onboard with his child’s new lifestyle. The dinner was an unofficial public display that he’s proud of his family, especially Stephen, for having the courage to be who he truly is.”

American Idol star Adam Lambert spent several hours in a Finnish jail Thursday after being arrested outside a Helsinki gay bar following a brawl with his Finnish boyfriend, local reality star Sauli Koskinen. According to Petri Juvonen, who is heading up the police investigation into the event, Lambert and Koskinen were arrested at around 4:00 am Thursday morning outside DTM (Don’t Tell Mama), a famous Helsinki gay club. Both men were held for questioning as local police investigate a total of four possible assault offenses. Juvonen tells The Hollywood Reporter that the two were soon thereafter released after being interrogated. According to media reports out of Finland, the dispute between the two men started in one of DTM’s back rooms. Lambert and Koskinen, a winner of the Finnish version of Big Brother, were apparently kicked out of the club but carried on fighting in the street outside. Finnish beauty queen Sofia Ruusila, an ex-Miss Helsinki, who had been celebrating with Lambert and Koskinen, told a Finnish entertainment channel that she had tried to get between the quarrelling couple when Lambert accidently hit her by mistake. Lambert arrived in Finland on Monday, December 19 to celebrate Christmas with Koskinen. There had been much internet speculation that Lambert was scheduled to be a guest performer on Thursday’s finale of the X Factor. A show spokesperson denied the booking and clearly, being 5,100 miles and a continent away, a Lambert appearance was not in the cards. It’s unclear when he’ll return to the U.S. or whether he’ll face charges in Finland. Lambert’s new single, "Better Than I Know Myself,” was released on Tuesday. The singer last tweeted on Wednesday at around noon Helsinki time boasting that the song was No. 2 on iTunes in the Middle East. He had earlier written in Finnish, "Helsinki is a beautiful city full of beautiful people! Thank you!" Investigator Juvonen completed his interrogation and the two were released on Thursday afternoon. Koskinen later blogged about the incident, writing in Finnish (as translated by Google): "Celebrities are people too and fame is not easy. Love is not always easy either, but it's forever." Koskinen goes on to say that the "hangover is gone already" and "Paparazzi, police stations have back doors, too, go away already." Not long after, Lambert tweeted: “Jetlag+Vodka=blackout. Us÷blackout=irrational confusion. jail+guilt+press=lesson learned.Sauli+Adam+hangover burgers= laughing bout it. :)”

Prince Harry spotted all sweaty and slightly dishevelled after a night at the Arts Club at the Mayfair Hotel in London, drinking with David Beckham, actor James Corden, and purported heterosexual James Middleton.
