In Retrial A 19-Year-Old Found Guilty Of Murdering George Weber After Two Met Through Craigslist, Marcus Bachmann Wants To Be Paid, Florida Atlantic University Adds Gay And Lesbian Staff And Students To Policy Protecting Them From Discrimination And Harassment, Zachary Quinto Makes Questionable Fashion Choice, Kellan Lutz

A teenager accused of killing a radio reporter he met through a Craigslist ad offering sex for money was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday at his retrial, according to The Associated Press. The jury in state Supreme Court deliberated less than a day before convicting 19-year-old John Katehis in George Weber's killing. Weber was a freelancer for the national ABC News Radio network when his body was discovered by police in his Brooklyn apartment in March 2009. He had been stabbed about 50 times. Prosecutors said the 47-year-old Weber had responded to Katehis' Craigslist ad offering sex for money. Katehis' lawyers say their client felt threatened and was defending himself. He faces 25 years to life in prison at a sentencing scheduled for December 7. A mistrial was declared in a trial last year. Weber had also worked at WABC in New York and at stations in California, Colorado and Pennsylvania. In a video recorded statement taken hours after his arrest, Katehis admitted taking $60 from Weber's pocket after the killing and replacing his bloody clothes with Weber's. Katehis was laughing at one point on the videotapes. When the jury returned its verdict, he smiled meekly.

Marcus Bachmann has a problem with gay rights activist John Becker, and not just because the activist surreptitiously videotaped a therapy session at Mr. Bachmann’s clinic that promised to cure his homosexuality: Mr. Becker has not paid his bill. According to Becker’s group, Truth Wins Out, Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann’s husband personally called the group to demand $150 for two sessions Becker scheduled as part of his sting, and then cancelled. If the group does not pay up by Friday, Bachmann said he’d turn the bill over to a collection agency. The group put the phone message on its website. “We call on Marcus Bachmann to immediately stop his petty and vindictive campaign of harassment and threats against our organization,” said the group’s executive director, Wayne Besen. “Perhaps, now that Michele’s campaign is foundering, the Bachmanns are frustrated and looking for scapegoats.” In an interview, according to The Wall Street Journal, Bachmann confirmed the account and did not relent. Becker signed a contract that stated he would pay for no-shows, and after his “sting,” he neglected to show up for two more sessions he was contractually obliged to pay for, Bachmann said. “It’s not the amount of money. For us, it’s the principle,” he said. Gay rights activists have targeted Bachmann for years, charging that his Christian counselling practice in suburban Minneapolis, Bachmann & Associates, practices “reparative therapy” to “cure” homosexuality or “pray away the gay.” Bachmann denies his practice has ever conducted such therapy. Last summer, with Mrs. Bachmann’s presidential campaign flying high, Mr. Becker sought out to prove it with a clandestine sting. The conclusions of the video it produced are in dispute. Truth Wins Out insists it shows a Bachmann & Associates counsellor promising to try to relieve a client of his same-sex attraction. That’s not how Mr. Bachmann sees it. “A client came in stating they had a concern about same-sex attraction. The client asked specifically for assistance with this. I don’t know a counselling agency that wouldn’t accept or talk about that person’s concerns,” Bachmann said, adding that Becker “was an incredible actor, emotional and deep in his emotion. The therapist joined in on empathy and concern.” He also demanded that Truth Win Out issue an apology “for lying in a manner that was taking the trust of a counsellor and crossing the line ethically.” But the current dispute is more prosaic – a dispute between a client who says he called in time to cancel his appointments and a counsellor who says he didn’t. And Mr. Bachmann still wants his money. He said he called the group personally because the therapist was not comfortable returning Mr. Becker’s call disputing the bill.

After a long wait, gay and lesbian students and employees at Florida Atlantic University are now specifically protected from discrimination and harassment. The Orlando Sun-Sentinel reports that FAU’s board of trustees amended its policy Wednesday to add sexual orientation as a protected class, joining race, color, religion, age, disability, sex, national origin, marital status and veteran status. All other state universities except Florida A&M already had sexual orientation in their non-discrimination policies. But the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council faced resistance from FAU in 2006 when it tried to add the protection. The university instead chose to include “any other basis protected by law.” Some argued that covered sexual orientation since discrimination against gays and lesbians was already prohibited under Broward County and Palm Beach County ordinances. Still, some argued the omission made FAU look less welcoming to prospective faculty and students. FAU’s student government and Lambda United, the school’s gay-straight alliance, held a rally Monday in support of the changes. Boris Bastidas, a student government member who pushed for the changes, said the work isn’t over just yet. “Although we're pleased with the changes thus far, there's still concern about including gender identity for transgender students as well,” he said. Five state universities currently have protection for transgender students and employees: the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, Florida State University, the University of West Florida and New College of Florida.

Love Zachary Quinto, but, um, spotted leaving a friend’s house in Silverlake sporting suspenders and a long-sleeve Hawaiian print shirt, not so much.

Kellan Lutz, continuing to maintain his heterosexuality, spotted headed to workout.
