Waterloo Iowa Police Arrest Suspect In Murder Of Marcellus Andrews
The WCF Courier reports that police have made an arrest in the death of a Waterloo Iowa teen killed during a fight last month. Officers arrested Paris Akeem Anding, 19, of 310 Crescent Place, Thursday on charges of second-degree murder. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Anding was also arrested on a separate warrant for aggravated assault in an unrelated case. Bond for that charge was set at $10,000. Police and paramedics were called to a fight in the 200 block of Cottage Street at 12:45 am August 19 and found 19-year-old Marcellus Richard Andrews on the ground. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and died two days later after being removed from life support. The state medical examiners officer determined he died from blunt trauma to the head and ruled the death a homicide. Police said Andrews, a Waterloo resident, and his friends had been involved in an ongoing dispute with others. Witnesses said Andrews was at a friend's home on Cottage Street when a truck pulled up, and a fight broke out between Andrews' acquaintances and the vehicle's occupants. Police said the fight is still under investigation. Anding has had a prior encounter with authorities. In 2008, when he was 16, Waterloo police detained him and two others for second-degree theft in connection with a staged hold-up at a McDonald's drive-through window.
