New York City Police Arrest Fifth Suspect In Connection To 2009 Gay Bashing

The New York Post reports that 22 year old Edward Gordon, of Tribeca, was finally arrested in connection to a brutal 2009 gang assault, in which he and at least four accomplices allegedly ambushed a man they thought was gay. Gordon was charged Wednesday in the beating of a 26 year old man in front of 80 Nort Moore Street, at the Independence Plaza complex. Authorities said Gordon, whose father, Paul Gordon, is a retired cop, has 11 prior arrests for drugs and assaults. He now faces gang assault and assault as a hate crime for the May 2009 attack, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said. "I live with my father . . . He knows I'm innocent," Gordon said. "He posted my bail . . . because he knows I'm not guilty. He's a 'You do the crime, you do the time' sort of guy." Gordon and at least five others allegedly pounced on the victim at 4:30 a.m., viciously attacking him with closed fists while cursing, "White preppy faggots, bitches, gay white boys, fucking faggots," according to authorities. The victim's nose was crushed, he suffered a scratch on the cornea of an eye, and had five teeth broken. Gordon claimed the attack could not have been bias crime because "that guy's not gay -- we're being charged with hate crimes but he's not gay . . . I wasn't at all involved." Four others were arrested last October and November, and also face either gang-assault or bias-related charges. One suspect, 29 year old Adan Rosado, the first man arrested in the case, is serving five years on a gang-assault conviction. His sister said the conviction is being appealed.
