Toronto High School Students Mimic Glee Slushie Attack In Series Of Anti-Gay Incidents, British Grade School Initiative Celebrates Gay Community, Possible Hate Crime In Carroll County Georgia, Joey Kovar, Aaron Carter, Patrick Schwarzenegger

From Toronto, a report on an alarming trend in gay bashing modelled after the bullying portrayed on Glee, the Star saying some students from Jarvis Collegiate High School, located in the city’s Gay Village, have been “travelling in swarms at lunch hour and after school. They hurl slushies, snowballs and ice. And slurs, including ‘faggot.’” According to Staff-Sergeant Rudy Pasini, of 51 Division, the police have strengthened patrols in and around the area, and intend to meet with school administration this week to try to find a way “to put an end to this foolishness. We need to remind the kids it may be funny on TV, but in reality it’s not funny at all.” In addition to attacking whom they perceived to be gay men, the group has assaulted a middle-aged woman, and – repeatedly- the crossing guard at a Church Street public school, who has filed a police complaint. Jarvis Collegiate Principle Elizabeth Addo said little save an investigation in ongoing and that “Students who engage in gay-bashing or homophobic behaviour will have consequences. It’s not in the spirit of the school or the spirit of inclusivity.”

The Telegraph reports on a government initiative in the United Kingdom by the Training and Development Agency for Schools to encourage teaching in grade schools about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues, meant to celebrate the gay community. The Schools Out organization is running the event, which begins in February, to dovetail with LGBT History Month, says the aim is “to encourage everyone to see diversity and cultural pluralism as positive forces.” Lessons plans include those centered on science, where students will study animal species where the male assumes a leading role in raising the young, and staging class discussion of non-traditional families. The plan is not with critics, Craig Whittaker, Conservative MP for Calder Valley, calling the plan “nonsense,” adding that “We have enough problems in our country, where we are too far down the national comparative league tables in these core subjects. Teachers should concentrate on teaching the core subjects, so we become the best at those again. I don’t see how introducing LGBT themes into those subjects is going to help.”

Chris Staples says that someone threw a rock through his window with a note attached covered in anti-gay slurs, and that hours later, the 40 year old Carroll County, Georgia openly gay man woke to flames filling his bedroom, reports WSBT Channel 2. Officials are investigating the incident as arson. His mother, who lives next door, says her son has been out for 20 years and that he suffers from health issues and is unable to work, rarely, if ever, leaving the home, making it harder for her to understand the hateful act. She says that at approximately 5:30 am Sunday she heard a commotion and saw fire coming her son’s house. She ran outside to find him lying in the yard. “There are no words to describe what happened and how I felt as his mom.” She also believes that the incident was intentional and was bias-motivated. “There was a note attached to a rock with some of the meanest, hateful words that could come out of a person’s mouth,” she said. Capitan Shane Taylor of the Carroll County Sherriff’s Office, who continues to investigate, said “This is the first time I’ve dealt with anything of this nature in 16 years.”

TMZ.com reports that Joey Kovar, who appeared in the Real World: Hollywood and in season 3 of Celebrity Rehab, is reportedly to appear in the pages of Playgirl, nude, not necessary the best news since he appears to still need rehab.

Speaking of, E! Online.com reports that Aaron Carter, who likes to tweet semi-nude photographs of him, has checked into rehab, the 23 year old entering a private treatment facility earlier this month for help in treating an unnamed addiction.

The seriously cute Patrick Schwarzenegger was seen Sunday on an outing with his father Arnold in Los Angeles.
