Human Rights Campaign Asks North Carolina Representative Larry Brown To Apologise For “Hateful” And “Extremist” HIV/AIDS Statements, New Hampshire Republicans Will Not Try To Repeal Same Sex Marriage Law, 21 Year Old Oregon Man Sentenced To 55-Months In Prison For Brutal Attack On Stranger Who’s Hair He Thought Looked “Gay,” Joe McElderry Outdoor Jacuzzi Man, Zac Efron

An update on a previous posting, the Winston-Salem Journal reporting late Wednesday that the Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign is calling on North Carolina state Representative Larry Brown to apologise for comments he made during an interview with the newspaper Tuesday regarding those living with HIV/AIDS who receive government-subsidised treatment. Brown, a Republican who represents the 73rd District, was asked about his legislative goals for the upcoming General Assembly, and said that government should stop spending money to treat adults with HIV/AIDS who “caused it by the way they live.” The HRC said Brown’s “extremist statements are intolerable” and that they are not only “hateful rhetoric” but they “create an environment that prevents many from getting tested and seeking treatment, thereby furthering the spread of HIV and AIDS.” The group added it wants Brown to “acknowledge that HIV and AIDS is a terrible and deadly disease and that anyone who has it deserves treatment for it.” Brown Wednesday said that he sits on no health committee and that he did not advocate cutting off funding for HIV or AIDS; however the HRC suggesting that the Republican could be in a position to cast a vote.

The Associated Press is reporting that Republicans who control the New Hampshire House have chosen not to pursue a repeal of the state’s same sex marriage law, House GOP Leader D.J. Bettencourt confirming to the AP Wednesday that the economy and job creation are the principle priorities of the Party’s agenda, Bettencourt adding that there is general consensus social issues are not significant at this time. Same sex marriage was enacted in 2009 when the Democrats controlled the Legislature, Democratic Governor John Lynch, who signed the law, since saying he would repeal any and all attempts at repeal.

21 year old Brandon Sanchez was sentenced Tuesday to 4 ½ years is prison because of an attack on a stranger that left the victim in the hospital for four months, Sanchez attacking Mark Bryant because he thought his hairstyle looked “gay," reports the Oregonian. Sanchez apparently attacked Bryant because he attended an August 11th party with his hair gelled into a faux hawk. Bryant was in a coma for 22 days and had part of his skull temporarily removed to relive pressure on his brain from swelling and today, five months after assault, he wears a patch over the right eye because he cannot see clearly. Only in recent weeks has he started to walk again. Investigators believe that Sanchez was intoxicated when the then 20 year old Bryant arrived at the party. According to a witness, Sanchez said that Bryant’s hair looked “gay.” When Bryant left, Sanchez followed him out to the yard, and shoved him off a five-foot retaining wall. His head hit the sidewalk. Instead of helping Bryant, Sanchez ran, turning himself in to police 15 hours later. Last week, he pleaded guilty to third-degree assault. In court Tuesday, Sanchez apologised to Bryant, telling him “I’d never wish this upon anyone. I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused in your family ... I’ve been praying for you.” Bryant then asked “Your honour, I have a question he never answered before: Why?” Sanchez said “I was stupid. I wish I could tell you an answer.”
