This week’s Entertainment Weekly cover features Chris Colfer and Darren Criss, the cover story another special report on the proliferation of gay teens on television, led, the magazine suggests, by Glee. Colfer tells the magazine that the duet he did with Criss of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside" (which, incidentally, became the most downloaded track of the Glee Christmas album) “was by far the gayest thing that has ever been on TV, period,” Colfer adding “Forget AbFab, forget Beautiful People and Will & Grace.”

The New York Times reports on a fund raising concert performed by Sir Elton John Wednesday night in Beverly Hills, to raise money for the legal fight to overturn the California same sex marriage ban – Proposition 8. The event was held on the grounds of the home Ron Burkle, the entrepreneur and fundraiser, and was hosted by Rob Reiner, the director of the American Foundation for Equal Rights. John performed a ninety-minute set that reportedly drew largely from his breakthrough 1970 album Elton John, the night raising $3 million. John, who at times has been less than comfortable being an openly gay man, reportedly was more than aware of the political significance of his appearance, telling those in attendance “As a gay man, I think I have it all: I have a wonderful career, I have my health, I have a partner of 17 years, and I have a son. But I don’t have the respect of the church or politicians who say I’m less worthy because I’m gay.” John also – surprisingly – expressed remorse for his reluctance to respond as an out gay man at the beginning of the AIDS crisis, saying “The American government was AWOL. And I was AWOL,” adding that the government’s response was a disgrace, “And I was a disgrace as well.”

The New York Post reports that Calvin Klein is hosting a 21st birthday party for his boyfriend, Nick Gruber, the part-time, some-time porn star, the 68 year old Klein buying out the entire Indochine restaurant, the invitation to the bash reading in part “In the spirit of the New Year and in celebration of Nick Gruber’s birthday, please join Calvin Klein for dinner and drinks at Indochine January 21st at 9 p.m. It will be the hottest ticket for New York’s gay and fashion elite.”
