Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes And Same Sex Marriage Activist Sean Eldridge Announce Engagement
The New York Post reports that Chris Hughes, the co-founder of Facebook, credited with President Obama’s successful social networking campaign, and Sean Eldridge, the political director of Freedom to Marry, are marrying, the New York Post reporting that the two, a long-time couple, announced their engagement at a reception Thursday in support of Freedom to Marry, the same sex marriage equality advocacy organization founded in 2003 by Evan Wolfson. “This is very timely for Chris and I have you here tonight to celebrate marriage and work on marriage,” Eldridge told assembled guests, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Newark Mayor Cory Booker. “We got engaged two weeks ago, so there is a real sense of urgency.” The two were engaged New Year’s Eve, Sean saying “We were in Thailand in a hotel room in the north. We were delayed after two days in the snowstorm and Chris got down on one knew and proposed. It was very traditional and very sweet,” adding “We’ve been together for five years now.” The couple has yet to set a date, wanting to wait until gay marriage is legal in New York State, naturally, Sean saying “As you know, we can’t get married in New York, so there is more of an urgency to approve gay marriage, so we can get married here. We’re going to get married in the next year or two for sure – we’re hoping as soon as possible.”
