Anti-Gay Hate Group Illinois Family Institute Argues Homosexual Activists Have Hijacked Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Message To “Advance Their Subversive Moral And Political Goals”

The Illinois Family Institute, recently designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as one of 18 anti-gay hate groups for not only attacking homosexuality, but for promoting hideous propaganda, chose to release a statement coinciding with the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. suggesting that were King alive, he would not support full equality for homosexuals, and that, according to the aggressively hostile director of the IFI, Laurie Higgins, Dr. King’s legacy has been hijacked by the homosexual agenda, the civil unions bill currently being proposed in the Illinois legislature is “not analogous to the civil rights movement.” In a press release sent Sunday, Higgins writes “For years, homosexual activists and their allies have manufactured and exploited an absurd and offensive analogy between homosexuality and race in order to advance their moral and political agenda. Homosexualists use the heroic battle to end racial discrimination as a Trojan Horse to eradicate moral judgments about homosexual conduct. All civilized persons -- particularly African-Americans -- should be outraged. Regarding this analogy, homosexualists have no ethical commitments to either logic or evidence, and they have no regard for the black family in America that already experiences tremendous struggles. Homosexualist organizations have one goal that reigns supreme over all others: the eradication of the true moral belief that homosexual acts are profoundly immoral. And they are willing to exploit the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement in order to achieve their morally dubious and intellectually vacuous goal.” Higgins adds that homosexuality is not inherent, but is instead a choice, and that therefore, comparisons to race are incorrect. “Race or skin color is 100 percent heritable, absolutely immutable and carries no behavioural implications whatsoever,” she writes. “Homosexuality, on the other hand, is defined by desire and voluntary sexual acts that are open to moral assessment. There is no research proving that homosexuality is immutable or biologically determined. In addition, homosexuality carries inherent behavioural implications that all societies throughout history have deemed immoral.”

Greetings and thanks for covering this. The SPLC designated 13 groups as anti-gay hate groups. NOT 18. We did profile 18. Of those, 13 are considered anti-gay hate groups, including IFI. From the intro to the piece:

"Of the 18 groups profiled below, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) will be listing 13 next year [2011] as hate groups (eight were previously listed), reflecting further research into their views; those are each marked with an asterisk."

Thanks again.
