Sweden Gay Pride, Belfast Pride, University Of Chicago Re-Hires Anti-Gay Catholic Professor But With Critical Caveat, Kevin Williamson Intends To Introduce important Gay Character To Vampire Diaries, Joe Slaughter Sizzles, Male Model Hotness, Guys With iPhones Fun, Matthew Gruber Makes Guys With iPhones Appearance

Tens of thousands people participated in Sweden Gay Pride Saturday, the parade winding its way through the streets of Stockholm, Finance Minister Anders Borg saying that the day “is a major demonstration for openness and tolerance. We want Sweden to be a modern country where it is possible to choose how and with whom you want to live.”

In Belfast, Ireland, thousands celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Belfast Gay Pride Saturday.

Kenneth Howell, the University of Chicago adjunct religious professor, has been reinstated, a day after he threatened to sue the school if not offered back his position he lost after a student complained that Howell’s instruction on Catholicism included obvious anti-gay hate. An important caveat of his re-hiring: the university will now pay those teaching Catholic-themed course instead of the instructors being paid by the St John’s Catholic Newman Center.

Openly gay Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek, Scream) says that he intends to introduce a gay character to his CW show Vampire Diaries. Williamson, who is an ardent supporter of GLESEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, said Thursday that the gay character is “one of those things that needs to feel organic and seamless. I don’t want it to be a character that comes in and this is a one-off. I want to someone to come in and have a reason and a purpose and really push that story forward the way I want to do it, and they’re important to the story that without them the show won’t happen. That’s what I want.”

Gay Games Begin In Colongne Germany Led By Matthew Mitcham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic A White Briefs Man, NFL Training Camp Quarterback Cuteness Featuring Tom Brady, Jay Cutler, Matt Ryan And Jimmy Clausen

The Eight Annual Gay Games began Saturday in Cologne, Germany, attended by openly gay German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. The games are a weeklong celebration that includes thirty-five sporting events, from track and field to swimming. An estimated 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries are expected to attend. Matthew Mitcham, the openly gay Australian Olympic gold-medal winning diver, seen below at Saturday’s Gay Games opening ceremony, said that the games exist because many gay and lesbian athletes might believe that there is no place for them in the sporting world. “There are a lot of sports that have this macho mentality, and a lot of gay and lesbian people might not feel comfortable in that kind of environment,” said Mitcham. “I think the Gay Games is a great way for people to actually participate in sport where they might not normally have felt comfortable enough.”

Calgary-Based Psychiatrist Aubrey Levin Faces Additional Twenty Sexual Assault Charges, Are Hate Crimes Increasing Or Are Gays More Confident In Reporting Attacks, Police In Staten Island Ask For Public Assistance In Locating Gay Bashing Suspect, Cook County Human Rights Commission Rules School Board Fired Superintendent Because He Was Gay

71 year old Aubrey Levin, the Calgary-based psychiatrist arrested March 23rd after allegations were made by a former 36 year old patient that Levin repeatedly sexually assaulted him has been charged with 21 counts of sexual assault, all involving patients, some allegedly during court order visits. Calgary police say that following the March arrest, “the sex crimes unit was approached by numerous people alleging that they, too, were sexually assault by Levin during counselling sessions or court-order visits. These assaults allegedly occurred at Levin’s Peter Lougheed Hospital office or examination rooms.” All of the alleged victims are male, and it is likely that the sexual assault charges will continue as police investigate. Levin was hired by Alberta Justice to commonly give expert testimony in court, usually during the sentencing part of trial post-conviction, and Alberta Justice is now reviewing all criminal cases in which Levin testified to ensure no miscarriages of justices occurred. Perhaps the most troubling part of the story is how Levin, know internationally for allegedly committing crimes against humanity while serving as a psychiatrist for South Africa’s SNC military party, was allowed to immigrate to Canada in the 1990’s and to obtain a licence to practice medicine.

Is Vancouver, British Columbia the anti-gay hate crime capital of Canada? Statistics Canada recently released figures that would suggest so, but as I am quick to point out, those numbers tend to suggest something else, primarily that those increased incidents are reported crimes and a substantial number of gay bashings in other areas of the country go unreported for a variety of reasons: a distrust or fear on the part of gay community and the police, or institutional homophobia, where bias motivated attacks go unreported because the victims fear a forced outing.

Police in Staten Island, New York are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with an assault on Luis and Richard Vieira at an area White Castle in the early hours of July 7th. Authorities have released a photo of the suspect taken from security video as well a video itself that shows the suspect allegedly confronting the two men. The suspect is alleged to utter a homophobic slur twice before the assault occurred.

A Human Rights Commission in Cook County Illinois ruled that there exists “substantial evidence” a former Bremen Community School District 228 Superintendent was fired because he was gay. Rich Mitchell was terminated in November, 2006; a year after the board approved extending his contract through to 2009, and shortly after the board changed leadership. Mitchell’s attorney, Christopher Clark, who is with Lambda Legal, said of Friday’s ruling that the “finding clearly illustrate that school boards can’t be in the business of firing teachers or administrators because they are gay. After years of investigation, this case can finally proceed to a full hearing.”

Joe McElderry Comes Out, Tom Hardy Backs Away From Bisexual Coming Out, Essex County Suspends Undercover Public Park Sex Patrol, Catholic Church Condemns Jerusalem Pride, Ricky Martin Autobiography, Rick Malambri, Sam Worthington Is Simply Sex, Cristiano Ronaldo

Joe McElderry has come out. The 19 year old X-Factor champion had his Twitter account recently hacked, someone tweeting that “It’s been difficult living a lie for so many years.” McElderry says “I was really angry at first – thinking, ‘How dare they hack me? But after a while I looked at the message and thought, ‘Well, they’re not that far from the truth.’ I think the Twitter thing was the point when I realised I was gay. I just looked at it and thought, ‘Should I be more bothered about this’? Because I wasn’t, that’s when it clicked and I thought maybe I was. It was a turning point, definitely.” His entire coming out, like McElderry, is very cute and sincere.

Tom Hardy is apparently backing away from his admittance that he is bisexual, a close friend saying that the actor’s recent statements about being attracted to me was “all taken out of context ... he was discussing a gay role and quotes coming from the character.” Hardy has played one gay character, in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla.

Essex County, New Jersey Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced Friday that the department has suspended an undercover patrol meant to monitor gay men who use a part of Branch Brook Park in Newark for sexual activity after an undercover detective shot and killed an unarmed Atlanta CEO DeFarra Gaymon. Fontoura said that “we’ve temporarily suspended the undercover operation there, but we’re increasing uniformed patrol at Branch Brook. It’s on hold for now. We’re looking to tweak it and make some adjustments.” Gaymon was shot July 16th, and the Essex Country Prosecutor’s office is still investigating the shooting, and no charges have been filed. The detective was a part of a five year undercover operation that Fontoura contends was motivated by complaints from park goers about the area being used as a pickup spot for gay men. Garden State Equality, the state’s largest gay advocacy group, has requested that documents related to previous public lewdness arrests made at the park since 2005, stating that any operation “targeting gay men or LGBT people specifically, or anyone perceived as such, is unconscionable – and we strongly believe, illegal.”

The Catholic Church in Israel has criticised authorities for allowing a gay pride parade to march through the streets of Jerusalem. Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal said that the eighth annual parade, which attracted 3,000 participants, “its organizers and the authorities who allow it, care neither for the feelings of families nor the holiness of this city,” adding that gays can “have their parade wherever they want” as long as that is not in Jerusalem.

Georgia Teens Charged In Anti-Gay Armed Robbery To Be Tried As Adults, Sarah Palin To Campaign For Homophobic Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Karen Handel, Team Eight Underwear, Alex Pettyfer, Daniel Radcliffe Dazzled By Hot Daddy, Ed Westwick Wonderment, Kellan Lutz

The six male teens – who range in age from 13 to 19 years old – arrested in connection to the beating and armed robbery of Reverend Josh Noblitt, an openly gay Atlanta pastor, and his partner will all be charged as adults, that according to Senior Atlanta Police Department LGBT liaison Patricia Powell. The six, who remain in police custody since their arrest July 2nd, will make their first court appearance August 2nd, said Patrol Officer Powell, who added that the charges of a felony armed robbery will also carry a bias crime stipulation similar to a hate crime. Atlanta remains one of several states without a hate crimes act, although local law authorities can employ the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Act – the federal hate crimes act passed late last year – as a resource, and according to Powell, Atlanta police have requested the FBI aid in investigating to determine whether the crime falls under the federal statute.

Former failed Alaskan governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced that she will campaign for Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel, a historic and horrific homophobe. “I’m coming to Georgia to campaign for my friend Karen because it is absolutely critical that Georgians nominate an ethical leader and a true conservative to take the fight to Roy Barnes in November. Karen Handel is a strong, pro-life leader who isn’t afraid to take on the status quo and do the right thing. She will be the 21st century governor Georgia needs to tenaciously address the state’s challenges,” said Sarah.

Canada Intent On Deporting Transgendered Irish National Despite Evidence She Should Stay, Out Olympian Blake Skjellerup Credits Vancouver And Whistler Pride House With Creating Safe Spaces, Argentina Celebrates Historic First Gay Legal Marriage, Like Many A Republican Tom Emmer Cannot Comprehend Concept Of What Constitutes Free Speech

Tanya Bloomfield, a 40 year old transgendered native of Ireland who has been living in Canada since 2006, who owns and operates a business in Chester, Nova Scotia, says she will claim refugee status if immigration officials attempt to return her home, Bloomfield saying that being transgendered makes her a target for hate and harassment in Europe. Bloomfield, who became something of a local hero after she ran the Scotiabank Blue Nose marathon barefoot to raise monies for the LBGT local community, says that Canadian immigration officials continue to refuse her request to be issued a temporary work permit. Her attorney, Lee Cohen, said that Bloomfield will seek refugee protection, which, if accepted, would extend her stay in Canada another 18 months, during which she is able to apply for citizenship. If not, she will be forced to leave the country at the end of August. She came to country as Tim Bloomfield, marrying a female partner, a Canadian, shortly thereafter, beginning in earnest a transition from male to female. However, in January, 2009, the marriage ended, and with it her spousal sponsorship application became invalid.

New Zealand Olympic speed skater Blake Skjellerup credits Vancouver, British Columbia and Whistler’s Pride House for helping his decision to come out, the 28 year old doing so this years. “Competing in the Olympics and being in such an open environment like Vancouver made me realized that all those prejudgements I had we all wrong,” he said. Skjellerup, who recently signed an endorsement deal with Air New Zealand, will be at the airlines booth at Vancouver’s Sunset Beach this Sunday as a part of Vancouver Pride celebrations.

Argentina has celebrated its first official gay marriage, Jose Luis Navarro and Miguel Angel Calefato, partners for 27 years, were wed Friday morning in the city of Frias, in the Santiago del Estero Province. Another couple is scheduled to marry in the capital city of Buenos Aries late Friday, and there are three more couples set to do so over the weekend. Argentina is the first Latin American country to legalize same sex marriage, President Christina Fernandez signing the bill into law July 21st, despite serious opposition from the Roman Catholic Church, as well as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Tom Emmer, the Republican candidate for governor of Minnesota, said Thursday that those upset with Target’s donation to MN Forward, a political action committee headed by staff culled mostly from outgoing Governor Tim Pawlenty’s staff, fail to understand that the donation - $100,000 in cash and $50,000 in branding benefits – falls under the auspice of free speech. “The sad part to me is, I thought we were supposed to be able to exercise our rights of free speech,” said the anti-gay Emmer. “We’re supposed to celebrate the fact that we have different perspectives. And it doesn’t seem like that what this is about. This seems to be more personal and we’ve got to get over that.” Monica Meyer, the head of OutFront Minnesota, the state’s largest gay advocacy group, suggesting that the protest over Target’s particular political donation is in fact an exercise in free speech, saying that “its consumer dollars going to fund a candidate who wants to put discrimination in the constitution. We have the right to be able to criticize that decision and to it publicly.” Target is the largest corporate donor to MN Forward, which has raised over $1 million from industry trade groups and companies, including Best Buy and snowmobile maker Polaris.

Jerusalem Gay Pride, GetEQUAL Calls On Lady Gaga To Take Stand On Arizona Immigration Bill, Judge Who Issued Temporary Injunction Against Arizona SB 1070 Receives Perverted Threats, Ellen DeGeneres Leaves American Idol, Sara Gilbert Comes Out Officially, Glee Promise To Have Kurt Date Seems A Tease, Gale Harold Returning To TV, McFly Plays Gay, Lance Bass Stalks, Another Reason To Hate Justin Timberlake, Anne Rice Suddenly Realizes Christianity Is Anti-Gay And Quits, Tom Hardy Suits Up

About 3,000 persons participated in Thursday eighth annual Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade, protected by an almost identical amount of police. Extreme right-wing religious figure Baruch Marzel (posted about previously) was detained out of concern that he intended to engage in a confrontation with the marchers. The parade was celebratory, but also sombre: almost one year ago a lone gunman opened fire a gay youth meeting killing two and the investigation continues without any suspects.

GetEQUAL wants Lady Gaga to make a public statement Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona about the state’s immigration act at her scheduled appearance, asking her to take a stance “against SB 1070 and to stand with the immigrant community in Arizona and beyond.”

Meanwhile, United States District Judge Susan Bolton, who Wednesday issued a preliminary injunction blocking significant portions of the act, has received a number of threats, David Gonzales, the United States Marshall for Arizona saying that Bolton has message “from people venting and who have expressed their displeasure in a perverted way.”

Ellen DeGeneres intends to leave American Idol. DeGeneres, who became a full-time judge on the show after Paula Abdul withdrew, said “a couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.” In January, Simon Cowell announced that this past season of Idol would be his last.

Not news exactly, but Sara Gilbert has officially come out. The former star of Roseanne told an audience Thursday at the Television Critics Association during a panel discussion on her upcoming project The Talk – a sort of The View like incarnation she is executive producing and co-hosting with Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, and Leah Remini, among others – Gilbert addressed a CBS press release of last week that oddly omitted any reference to her partner, Allison Adler, saying that the decision “came from me. CBS would write whatever I wanted,” adding that “I’ve been acting my whole life, and I’ve never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show ... so obviously I’m going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn’t in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I’d rather come in person and talk to you about all that here.”

Glee’s Ryan Murphy has said that he want the character of Kurt “to have the high school experience that I didn’t have, I want him to have a boyfriend and for them to be prom king and king,” however Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt, says that the storyline may in fact take another direction “which delay” Kurt getting a boyfriend, but will be “provocative.”

Gale Harold is returning to television, the vastly underrated actor to have a recurring role on the CW’s Hellcats, as an attorney, Julian Parish, who sexuality, according to executive producer Kevin Murphy, is likely to be gay.

Novelist Anne Rice, whose son Christopher, also a novelist, is openly gay, says she is leaving Christianity, taking to her Facebook to say that “In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen”

Sickening Religious Extremists Counter-Protest Jerusalem Gay Pride, Six Same Sex Couple Sue Hawaii Demanding Civil Unions, Hawaii Christian Coalition Head Compares Homosexuality To Smoking, Guys With iPhones Fun, Zac Efron, Ryan Phillippe Unzipped Again

As participants gathered in preparation for the eighth annual Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade Thursday, a group of religious anti-gay extremists organized a counter march, holding a banner that read “Sick Perverts – Get out of Jerusalem.” The anti-gay activists were led by Baruch Marzel, who said of homosexuality “it’s a disease of choice, and a man can change his taste and his ways,” adding that “when someone has AIDS they tell them not to infect others, so why are these people allowed to march here in Jerusalem and infect us with their disease?”

Six same sex couples in Hawaii are filing a lawsuit Thursday in Circuit Court, requesting that the court order that gay couple be permitted to enter a legal status – civil union – that would have afford them the same rights, benefits, and responsibilities that opposite sex couples can acquire through marriage, in other words asking that court do what the Hawaii Legislature could not or would not do: reverse Republican Governor Linda Lingle’s cowardly decision to veto House Bill 444. Among those participating plaintiffs is Linda Hamilton Krieger, along with partner Kathleen Sands. Krieger says that the rationale employed by the outgoing governor in exercising the veto - that the decision of civil unions or gay marriage is “of such societal significance that the people of Hawaii deserve the right to directly decide whether the changes contemplated by House Bill No. 444 should become law” – is in fact flawed logic. “In this country,” said Krieger, “we don’t put people’s fundamental rights up to a popular vote. If we did that, our school would probably still be segregated.”

However, according to Garret Hashimoto, the chairman of the Hawaii Christian Coalition, most state residents do not want the government to endorse equal rights for same sex couple, saying “I feel insulted. They keep bringing up Martin Luther King, black rights and women’s suffrage. This is not about that. This is about two males or two females practicing sex. It’s behaviour. It’s not different from smokers or drinkers.”

Another Homophobic Attack In Merseyside, Israeli Gay And Lesbian Association Sues Religious Website For Anti-Gay Statements, Galapagos Islands Taken Off Endangered List, Ryan Murphy Candidate To Direct Wicked, Chace Crawford, Ryan Phillippe

Police in Merseyside say that a 27 year old man was punched in the face on June 21st fracturing the victim’s jaw in what is being deemed a homophobic attack. The man was with three friends when a group of seven men approached them, shouting anti-gay slurs at them. Police have released security video of the suspects and are asking for assistance in identifying the men, in particular a 16 or 17 year old male, 5ft 8in with dark hair and a metal brace on his teeth. Detective Constable Peter Tynan of the Sigma Hate Crime Unit said that “those who carry out hate crimes targeting people because of their difference should be left in no doubt that their behaviour will not be tolerated and that robust action will be taken to ensure they are arrested and prosecuted for their actions.”

The National Association of LGBT in Israel filed a lawsuit in a Tel Aviv court against a website – Tsofar, a religious site – for publishing an article that asked for the indictment of leaders of a gay youth center housed at the Tel Aviv Gay and Lesbian Association center, rather than the still at large gunman who killed two people August 1st, 2009. The article, which appeared barely two weeks later, read in part that “many citizens who are sick and tired of the reckless and morally uninhibited conduct expect law-enforcement authorities to put the heads of the murder club (the gay center) on trial for crimes they committed,” adding a quote from a letter – sent anonymously to the National Council for the Child – that purported to have proof public acts of sex took place at the club. The lawsuit argues that the article was in fact full of “defamatory and homophobic expression,” and that “boorish and ignorant insults of the kind that the defendants published are liable to lead to additional hate crimes against the plaintiffs and members of the pride community in Israel.”

The Galapagos Islands, a series of islands along the coast of Ecuador, has been taken off the UNESCO list of endangered environmental sites. The Islands, a World Heritage site whose species served as the source for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, was placed on the endangered list in 2009 because of threats from tourism, immigration, and invasive species. Ecuador’s government took strong action to ensure that the Islands remain safe.

It has been confirmed that one of the four filmmakers in discussions to direct Wicked is Ryan Murphy, JJ Abrams, James Mangold, and Rob Marshall the other three.

Mark Gower, New Jersey Library Director Gail Sweet Self-Censors Gay Youth Anthology Removing Book From All Shelves, Tom Hardy Comes Out As Bisexual, Sam Worthington Sexy Shirtless And Soaking Wet, Guys With iPhones Goodness, Zac Efron Gets Lap Dance, CBS Goes From Having No Gay Characters To Have Three Random Gay Characters In Mere Moments

Mark Gower, a 26 year old gay man from Portland, Oregon, who was living in Washington, D.C. since 2006, was found dead in his apartment Thursday, July 22nd. A graduate of Portland State University, Gower had spent several years working as an executive recruiter at Ledgent Search Group, a staffing agency, and recently worked as a dancer at Secrets, a gay club in the district. Police do not suspect foul play. Tim White, a friend, said police are apt to investigate the death as accidental, and added that he didn’t “fell Mark would want his legacy to have been that he was a ‘gay dancer.’ He was a human being. A caring, capable, and independent individual who just happened to be gay. It was only a part of who he was. He was a son, brother, grandchild, and a very good friend. He is missed by all who knew him.”

In New Jersey, the American Civil Liberties Union, under the auspice of the Freedom of Information Act, obtained e-mails revealing that Gail Sweet, director of the Burlington County Library System, has been successful in removing Revolutionary Voices: A Multicultural Queer Youth Anthology from all of the systems shelves, Sweet categorizing the book as “child pornography.” The censorship, incidentally, was prompted by Glenn Beck’s 9.12 Project, an organization that wants to return America to a time that never actually existed. The link, by the way, contains the phone numbers – cell and office – of Sweet, should you want to voice your opinion.

Tom Hardy – a standout in Inception – was asked in an interview whether he had any sexual relationships with men, and replied “As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for fuck’s sake,” adding that “I’m done experimenting but there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine.” The 32 year old, who has battled an addiction problem publically in the past, has a two year son from a previous relationship, and is currently engaged to 28 year old actress Charlotte Riley.

Perhaps in some misguided attempt to quell rampant rumours, Zac Efron, in New York City over the weekend promoting Charlie St. Cloud (Efron is getting good reviews; the movie not so much) reportedly accompanied High School Musical co-star Corbin Bleu to Flashdancers Gentlemen’s Club Sunday night, staying till 3:00 am, spending more than $2,000 on lap dancers and vodka. Although the same source reports that Kevin Jonas is all sensual with his spouse Danielle and you know how true that story has to be.

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler says that after receiving a failing grade for the second straight year from GLAAD, the network intends to a gay character each to the new sitcom $#*! My Dad Says, as well as returning comedy Rules of Engagement and returning drama The Good Wife. "We’re disappointed in our track record so far. We’re going to do it. We’re not happy with ourselves,” said Tassler, apparently oblivious to how random her response is. Should not gay characters appear, organically, as a part of an overall thoughtfulness on the part of the producers and writers, and not just magically appear?

Federal Judge Blocks Significant Parts Of Arizona Immigration Bill, Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Eastern Michigan University Brought By Anti-Gay Student, Augusta State University Release Statement On Lawsuit Brought By Avowed Anti-Gay Student

United States District Judge Susan Bolton Wednesday stopped the implementation of parts of Arizona’s new SB1070 immigration law that was scheduled to take effect midnight Thursday. Police are not randomly allowed to stop individuals based on a determination that they are in America illegally, and police are not allowed to charge anyone for a proposed new crime of failing to possess proper immigration documents. Bolton ruled that the state of Arizona attempted an unconstitutional effort to regulate immigration. Arizona is expected to appeal the decision to the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco immediately.

Tuesday, Federal Judge George Steeh rejected a lawsuit filed by the Alliance Defense Fund on behalf of Julea Ward, a master’s student studying in the counselling program at Eastern Michigan University, expelled because she refused to offer counsel to gay clients in an affirming manner, as required by the university program and counselling associations. Steeh found that the university was in fact enforcing a legitimate curricular requirement that all counselling students learn to work with all clients in a way that does impose a personal judgement on the client’s values or orientation, and that Eastern Michigan did not violate on the constitutional guarantees of free speech and the right to religious freedom. Ward, who refers to herself as an “orthodox Christian,” began the master’s program in 2006, writing in papers that she believed homosexuality to be “morally wrong.” In 2009, as a part of the program, Ward was about to have an appointment with a client whose file indicated a past discussion of a gay relationship, but requested that the client be referred to another counsellor rather that have to engage in any counselling that could “affirm the client’s homosexual behaviour.” The supervising counsellor subsequently cancelled that appointment – which was to begin in hours – and Ward, after disciplinary hearings, was consequently expelled.

The Alliance Defense Fund last week filed a similar lawsuit against Augusta State University in Georgia, on behalf of Jennifer Keeton, who alleges that the University asked her to compromise strongly held religious convictions in order to graduate from the counselling program. Tuesday, the university released a statement that read in part “Augusta State University ... does not discriminate against any individuals on the basis of their personal, social, political, or religious beliefs or views,” adding that the “counselling profession requires its practitioners to recognize that people set and adhere to their own moral compass. The professional counsellor’s job is help clients clarify their current feelings and behaviours and to help them reach the goals that they have determined for themselves, not to dictate what those goals should be, what morals they should possess, or what values they should adopt.”

Family Research Council Attacks Holland Michigan And Argues Homosexuality Voluntary Sexual Behaviour That Can Be Cured, NOM Fails Again, Nathan Quinones, Undercover Detective Who Shot Unarmed DeFarra Gaymon Identified, Bruce Weber Editorial And Film, Evandro Soldati

In Holland, Michigan, a coalition of pro-gay community activists will meet Wednesday to determine how best to respond to a full-page advertisement that ran in the July 23rd edition of the Holland Sentinel sponsored by the Family Research Council and Request Foods (a corporation that counts Campbell Soup among its clients) warned of “pro-homosexual activists” who were attempted to allocate “special protection” under employment discriminations laws. The ad also argues that homosexuality is a choice, a “voluntary sexual” behaviour that is “harmful to individuals and to society.” Worse, the ad actually says that homosexuals can be changed into heterosexuals “sometimes spontaneously, and sometimes as a result of therapeutic interventions.”

In Madison, Wisconsin, despite the deeply violent rhetoric of an anti-gay marriage audience estimated to be in the fifties, the National Organization for Marriage summer One Man, One Woman Tour failed once more, an estimated 500 pro-gay supporters effectively drowning out NOM’s message of hate, although according to Katie Belanger, the executive director of Fair Wisconsin, who organized the counter-NOM movement, the idea was not to disrupt, but to demonstrate that the citizens of the state care about the conceit of marriage. Belanger said that “the purpose of the rally was really to show the LBGT community supports marriage too, and to really highlight the need for marriage equality in Wisconsin. We want to show that people in Wisconsin are fair-minded and marriage is something we agree with (NOM) about – it is important and it does provide caring couples with the legal protections and respect we think everyone deserves.” Among those supporter s of NOM was Julaine Appling, the CEO of the Wisconsin Family Council, who, in thanking anti-gay marriage proponents, said “you have real jobs, you have real lives. Marriage is under attack in Wisconsin. Standing for marriage as God designed marriage is not easy.”

Nathan Quinones has died. The 79 year old suffering a stroke Sunday. Quinones was the New York City school system chancellor during the mid-nineteen eighties, and among his accomplishments, which included reducing the city’s drop rates and raising achievement standards, he help found the Harvey Milk High School in lower Manhattan, the first safe space LBGT school in the United States.

The undercover officer who fatally shot 49 year old DeFarra Gaymon in Newark’s Branch Brook Park has been identified. He is 29 year old Edward Esposito, of Morris County, New Jersey, an award winning detective, who was given a medal of merit in May for his role in attempting to break up an attempted carjacking in November, 2009. Esposito has been a sheriff’s officer for eight years. He shot Gaymon Friday, July 16th, around 6:00 pm, alleging that the married father of four Atlanta CEO who was attending a high school reunion was soliciting sex in the park, known as a gay cruising area, and that while struggling to arrest Gaymon, Esposito was forced to discharge his gun in self-defence. There were no witnesses to the shooting.

Target Tries To Defend Donation To Anti-Gay Minnesota Gubernatorial Candidate, Anti-Gay Christian Student Suing Georgia University Advocated Gay Conversion Therapy, Basic Rights Oregon Campaign, Australian Labour Party Candidates Break Party Line And Support Gay Marriage, Tim Tebow Signs To Be Spokesperson For Jockey, Lance Bass Picks Up Marc Jacobs Ex Lorenzo Martone, Ryan Phillippe Mysterious Foot Injury, Zac Efron Mobbed Yet Again

On Tuesday, Target Chief Executive Officer Gregg Steinhafel released an e-mail addressing concerns by employees and customers about a donation made to MN Forward, a political action committee headed by staff assembled from outgoing Minnesota Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty’s administration that operates in support of Tom Emmer, the Republican candidate to replace Pawlenty. Emmer, like Pawlenty, opposes gay marriage, as well as strongly supporting Arizona’s SB 1070, an immigration bill that is transparently racist. Emmer is also on record advocating chemical castration for sex offenders. Steinhafel said that Target “rarely endorses all advocated positions of the organizations or candidates we support, and we do not have a political or social agenda,” adding “let me be very clear, Target’s support of the GLBT community is unwavering, and inclusiveness remains a core value of our company.” Target donated $100,000 in cash and $50,000 in branding consultation to MN Forward, an amount that makes the corporation the single largest donor to the group.

According to documents filed in court, anti-gay Christian Jennifer Keeton, the Augusta State University suing the school because she says officials threatened to expel her from its counselling program after she refused to participate in a “remediation” program meant to increase her acceptance and tolerance of gays, argued in class and in essays that homosexuality was a “lifestyle choice,” and that the “lifestyle” was the result of identity confusion. Court papers, filed on behalf of Keeton by the Alliance Defense Fund, also reveal that she publically advocated conversion therapy for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and the transgendered. The remediation plan also called for more work to improve Keeton’s writing skills. According to Keeton and the ADF, the university is violating her right to free speech and the right to religious freedom.

Basic Rights Oregon, that state’s largest gay rights advocacy group, began a state-wide campaign last week aiming to change the stance of state voters who oppose gay marriage. Basic Rights Oregon says it hopes to place an initiative on the ballot as soon as 2012 asking voters to repeal the state constitutional ban on gay marriage they approved in passing Measure 36 in 2004. “Our hope is to reach many more people with the message and continue to inspire those one-on-one conversations that we feel are critical to building understanding and support for the freedom to marry, “according to executive director Jeana Frazzini. The campaign includes television ads, mail-outs, and neighbour canvassing.

In Australia, two more Labour Party candidate have come out in support of gay unions, defying the party line which opposes both civil unions and same sex marriage, and further embarrassing the first openly gay federal government minister, Penny Wong, who said Sunday she supports the Labour conceit that marriage is defined as that existing only between one man and one woman. Steven Lewis, the candidate for the seat of Wentworth, said that he believes “that those who are in a loving relationship of the same sex should have the same rights as heterosexual couples.”

Tim Tebow and Jockey have partnered, the former Focus on the Family parrot now a spokesperson for the ubiquitous line of underwear, Tim to be featuring in the Jockey catalogue, print and television advertisements, and on the company’s website. The amateur circumciser and Denver Broncos' quarterback said “I’m excited to represent the Jockey brand and to work with such an innovative company. I’ve long been a fan and consumer of Jockey, and think they make a quality product with a great fit.”

It is no secret that professional gay Lance Bass played a part in the breakup of Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone, and now there are published reports that the twosome of Bass and Martone has been publically, um, flirtatious, with one another since forever, well forever being at least two years.

Ryan Phillippe is injured again, well, reinjured, spotted on set Monday wearing a black brace on his left leg like the one he wore earlier this year.

Ottawa Police Board Rejects Review On HIV Disclosure Policy

Despite the promise by Ottawa police to review the department’s policy for dealing with HIV non-disclosure cases, Monday, board chairman Eli El-Chantiry and Police Chief Vern White decided against any revision. Brent Bauer, a representative of the Ottawa Gay Men’s Wellness Initiative, appeared before the board at a meeting Monday and suggested that the public disclosure of HIV-positive status remains an issue better dealt with by health officials, not the police. He added that the law regarding HIV-positive disclosure is “flawed” and until it is overturned, proper protocol needs to be created for prosecution, including guiding police to determine whether or not to press charges around HIV non-disclosure. The meeting Monday was the result of anger after the police took the unusual step of releasing a photograph of Steven Boone, 29 years old, in custody, charged with aggravated sexual assault after allegedly failing to disclose his status to another Ottawa man, now 18 years old, who contracted HIV after having unprotected sex in late January and again in early February. Five more Ottawa men have since come forward alleging sexual contract with Boone, and in Waterloo, he faces three more counts of aggravated sexual assault. The police released the photograph to media outlets and deemed Boone a “sexual predator” which rightly upset gay activists and medical professionals, who contend that the measure was a violation of Boone’s right to privacy, as well as undermining public health efforts surrounding HIV testing and disclosure. Bauer, disappointing with the decision of the police board, said that HIV disclosure is a “public health issue and not a criminal issue.”

Openly Gay Vancouver MLA Calls On B.C. Liberal Government To Act And End Homophobia, Openly Gay Australian Minister Supports Her Government’s Opposition To Gay Marriage, New Jersey Supreme Court Split Vote Rules Not To Hear Gay Marriage Case, Gay American Idol Contestant Files Discrimination Suit, James Franco Likes To Read On Toilet, Kellan Lutz In The Shower And In The Street, Zac Efron Mob

Ahead of this weekend’s Vancouver Pride, openly gay NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly Spencer Chandra Herbert said that the party is “concerned with the latest string of hate attacks” and referencing a recent study said that “B.C., as you may have heard with Statistics Canada, has been called the province with the highest level of hate attacks in Canada, specifically against gay and lesbian people. So we’re here today to call for action from the provincial government to address this growing concern.” Herbert called on the ruling Liberal party to take action, and introduced a series of five suggestions that the NDP want to see enacted. They include introducing clear, explicit anti-homophobia polices in every school, ensuring that all Crown prosecutors are aware of and employ legal hate-crime provisions, create a province-wide tips line to report gay bashing, invest in community support for victims of discrimination and violence, and work with the city of Vancouver to ensure a greater police presence in the city’s predominately gay village.

Sunday, Penny Wong, the Australian ruling Labour Party’s Minister for Climate Change said she supports her party’s opposition to gay marriage, saying that “on the issue of marriage I think the reality is there is a cultural, religious, historical view around that which we have to respect. The party’s position is very clear that this is an institution that is between a man and woman.” Wong, incidentally, is openly gay.

The New Jersey Supreme Court Monday by a vote of 3-3 decided not to hear a case in which six same sex couples requested the right to marry. Steven Goldstein, the chairman of the gay advocacy group Garden State Equality, said that “same-sex couples will continue to be denied the consistent right to visit one another in the hospital, to make medical decisions for one another, and to receive equal health benefits from employers, all because of the deprivation of the equality and dignity that uniquely comes with the word marriage.” Despite the court’s denial, it did leave open the possibility that the case could be heard in the future, the order today reading in part that “this matter cannot be decided without the development of an appropriate trial-like record.”

Someone named Ian Bernardo says he has filed a complaint in New York’s Division of Human Rights office against the producers of American Idol for illegal workplace discrimination. Ian was a contestant on the 2006 season, auditioning with a rendition of Laura Branigan’s Gloria. Bernardo’s suit alleges that the producers “exploited my non-conforming appearance and sexual orientation. They did this by directing me to ‘gay it up’ in any appearance I made on camera ... Although characterized as an ‘audition’ to the public at large, in fact, I was and was paid as an employee of respondents for each appearance.” The suit adds that the employees of Idol used words like “fag” and “homo” and that the “workplace was permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, insults and hostile and offensive comments that were so severe as to alter my working conditions and create an environment that was abusive and ultimately threatening to my safety.”

The Good Men Project – an online magazine – asks an assortment of men (naturally) to name their favourite guy ritual. Among the more notable answers were Duncan Roy, a filmmaker, who responded “washing under my foreskin” and James Franco who replied “reading on the toilet.”

Angus Reid Poll Reveals Canada And Britain More Supportive Of All Things Gay Than American Counterparts, The Elton John Gay Minstrel Show, Glee Casts Chord Overstreet As Kurt’s Football Star Boyfriend, True Blood Male Nudity, Joe Jonas As James Dean, Enrique Iglesias Says He Needs Brazilian Wax Prior To Nude Water Ski, Channing Tatum Goes To The Dogs

A new Angus Reid public opinion poll suggest that Canadians and Britons are more inclined to support the legal recognition of same sex couples that their American counterparts. The online survey polled 1,003 Canadian adults, 1,002 American adults, and 1,980 British adults and revealed that 61-percent of Canadians want same sex marriage to continue to remain legal in the country. 41-percent of Britons support legalizing same sex marriage, while 36-percent of Americans favour legalizing gay marriage. The survey asked respondents to pretend they were voting in a referendum to define marriage, and 54-percent of Americans voted to define marriage as that existing only between one man and one woman, with 36-percent voting to define marriage as a union between two people. The poll also asked respondents about their expectations on an eventual Supreme Court ruling on Proposition 8 and the constitutional validity of California’s gay marriage ban. 47-percent expect the Supreme Court to continue to define marriage federally as a union between one man and one woman. Of those polled, 59-percent of Canadians contend homosexuality is innate, while 44-percent of Americans believe it to be a choice.

Elton John continues to straddle the fence between ignorance and irrelevance, telling an audience in Tucson, Arizona Thursday he had no regard for an artist’s boycott of the state over the horrifically racist SB 1070 immigration bill. “We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona,” said John. “I have read that some of the artist won’t come here. They are fuckwits! Let’s face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what’s the fuck up with these people?”

Movieline magazine reports that after Glee creator Ryan Murphy announced at Comic-Con in San Diego that the Fox hit will be addressing the first ever Prom King and King relationship on television, the show cast Kurt Hummel’s first boyfriend, and he is the deeply delicious Chord Overstreet, of iCarly, cast as “Sam, a McKinley high school athlete who starts off as Finn’s protégé but becomes his competition.”

Is An Italian Expose On Gay Priests Actually An Offensive Gay Stereotype Lie Pretending To Be True In Order To Attack The Vatican, Evangelical Lutheran Church Reinstates Seven Gay And Transgendered Pastors Twenty Years Later, Ted Haggard Says He Over Repented And That Encounter With Male Prostitute Was Massage Gone Awry

The editors of the right-wing Italian magazine Panorama denies it is out to “defame” the Catholic Church and says its current cover story containing revelations of the generously active gay sex lives of several priests based in and around Rome’s Holy See is accurate and that the periodical has the names and addresses of the priest protagonists the piece is built on. Several Vatican sources as well as some Italian gays have expressed doubt as to the validity of the article, suggesting the salacious story was a fabrication meant solely to attack and embarrass the church. Gay activist Aurelio Mancuso, former president of the Italian gay movement ArciGay, argued that the news magazine, owned and operated as a part of the media empire of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is exploiting the gay issues to systematically attack the church, saying that “this is a squalid political and cultural operation; in order to attack the Catholic Church you propose a vision of the homosexual community that is stuffed with stereotypes.” Sunday, the daily newspaper ll Giornale – also owned by Berlusconi – reported on the existence of a website, venerabilis.tk, which is “dedicated to homosexual Roman Catholic priests” as further proof that openly gay priests not only exist, but enjoy an active sex life. The Vicariate of Rome, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, said that the Panorama piece was an obvious effort “to create scandal and to defame all priests” suggested the quoted Father “Carlo,” who alleges that 98-percent of the priests he knows are in fact gay is an example of the magazine’s manufactured maligning of the church exploiting clichés about gay men.

Sunday, seven San Francisco-area gay and transgender pastors were welcomed back into the national Lutheran church after being barred for twenty years from serving in the denomination. The “Bay Area Seven” were members of two San Francisco churches, First United and St. Francis that in 1990 defied the policy in place at time that permitted gay men and women to become Lutheran pastors contingent on a vow of celibacy. The two churches regarded the policy as discriminatory, and as a result of their defiance, were expelled from the denomination. Their reinstatement is the result of a national Evangelical Lutheran policy change in 2009, whose general assembly voted to allow gay men and women, in committed relationships to serve as clergy members.

The sad, strange Ted Haggard, forced to resign as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and to leave New Life, a mega-church he founded, after admitting that he both bought methamphetamine from and enjoyed at least one sexual encounter with a gay prostitute now says he “over-repented.” Haggard, who has formed a new church, St. James, says that in the midst of his “crisis” he was willing to accept too much guilt and that he was born to preach. Drawing odd analogies and speaking in the third person, Haggard says “Tiger Woods need to golf. Michael Vick needs to be playing football. Ted Haggard needs to be leading a church.” As for the initial allegations and subsequent acceptance that they were true, Haggard now contends that his encounter with the male prostitute was a massage that went “awry” and that he does not have same sex attractions.

Target Under Attack For Donating To Anti-Gay Gubernatorial Candidate, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Promises Repeal Of American Gay Military Ban, Lt. Dan Choi Honourably Discharged, Nico Tortorella Hotness, Tom Hardy, Chris Hemsworth And Chris Evans Do Comic-Con

The gays love Target and Target loves the gays, so why is the Minnesota-headquarter company contributed $150,000 to a Political Action Committee that in turn supports Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, on record as believed that marriage is that which exists only between one man and one woman, and who in turn has donated monies to a Christian ministry headed by Bradlee Dean, who heads the Christian rock band You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, and who said that Muslim countries that routinely execute anyone suspected of being gay or lesbian are “more moral that even the American Christians” as well as linking gays to child molestation? Target says that it is supporting Emmer because the retail giant “supports causes and candidates based strictly on issues that affect our retail and business interests.”

Friday, Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid appeared at Netroots Nations, a convention of activists and liberal bloggers held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada, and told the audience that he personally pledged to repeal the United States military ban on openly gay men and women from serving.Prior to Reid answering questions from the audience, the discussion of the moderate handed him Lieutenant Dan Choi’s West Point ring as a gift. Reid said he could not accept the gift, saying “he earned his ring. I’m going to give it back to him.” Choi then joined Reid on stage, the two embracing, Reid, despite calls from the audience to keep the ring, saying “when the bill’s signed, I’ll keep it safely and then give it back to him.”

Choi, the de facto face of the armed services’ policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” said Thursday that he received a call from his Army National Guard battalion commander informing him of an official honourable discharge – effective June 29th, 2010 – a discharge resulting from Choi’s admittance on The Rachel Maddow Show that he was gay.

Accused Vancouver Gay Basher Plays Gay Panic Self-Defence Card, Rural Gay Farmers, Arizona Forced To Continue Paying Gay And Lesbian State Employees Domestic Partnership Benefits, Marc Jacobs And Lorenzo Martone Break-Up, Male Model Nicholas Madrid, Joe Jonas Packed In Tight, Steven R. McQueen And Paul Wesley Appear At Comic-Con

Friday, under cross-examination, 37 year old Shawn Woodward, accusing of aggravated assault for allegedly hitting 62 year old Ritch Dowrey so hard in the head that he will require life-long assistance, continued to play the gay panic card, telling the court that the trying to leave the Fountainhead Pub of the night of March 13, 2009, Dowrey made a comment to the effect that Woodward would return. Woodward says he interpreted that statement to be “offensive” – an implication that he was gay, which he is not, he repeatedly told the court. Hitting Dowrey, he said, was the only option. Closing arguments in the case will be heard Monday.

United States District Judge John Sedwick Friday issued a preliminary injunction that prevents Arizona from implementing a state law that effectively eliminates domestic partner benefits for gay and lesbian state employees. The injunction requires the state to still make family health insurance available to all gay and lesbian state employees who have established a relationship that meets the standards set by Arizona administration rule. The state legislature included the law in a budget enacted last September.

According to Lorenzo Martone, via Twitter, he and Marc Jacobs have broken-up, the couple ending their relationship two months ago.

Thursday, 37 year old Shawn Woodward, accused of aggravated assault in the attack on 62 year old Ritch Dowrey that left the victim with a catastrophic brain injury so bad he requires lifelong assistance, said he was acting out of self-defence. Woodward, who does not dispute he punched Dowrey once in the head, said that Dowrey propositioned him three times, beginning with repeated eye contact. Woodward said the victim offered to buy him a drink, Woodward testifying that he said “No thank you, I’m not that way.” Woodward then testified that Dowrey “puts his arms around me and hugs me and says ‘Are you sure I can’t buy a drink?’ I say ‘No thanks, I don’t want one, leave me alone.’” Woodward said that Dowrey approached a third time, and at that point he decided to leave the bar. As he was leaving Woodward said in court “I felt his hand graze across my thigh toward my crotch ... I turned and punched him.” As a result of the brain trauma Dowrey has no memory of the evening, consequently he will not be testifying.

Sonoma County, California has settled a lawsuit filed on behalf of 78 year old Clay Greene, of Guerneville, who alleged that social workers prevented him from seeing his dying partner, Harold Scull. The county will pay $600,000. Greene contended that social workers would not let him visit Scull in the hospital despite signed will, medical declarations, and powers of attorney that named each man as the other’s spouse. The couple, contingent on the laws in California, were neither legally married nor registered as domestic partners. The lawsuit also alleged that the county forced Greene into a nursing home, and sold at an estate sale the couple’s property. The county denied all charges, and said it was settling the suit to avoid furthers costs.

Jennifer Keeton, a graduate student at the school of counselling at Augusta State University, Georgia, has filed a lawsuit accusing authorities at the school of violating her constitutional rights by ordering her to change her views opposing homosexuality. Keeton, an avowed Christian who contends that homosexuality is immoral and is a lifestyle choice, said that the school threatened to expel if she failed to complete a remediation plan that includes diversity sensitivity counselling. Keeton is being represented by the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian coalition of attorneys, who argue that Keeton’s right to free speech and free exercise of religion have been compromised. “A public university student shouldn’t be threatened with expulsion for being a Christian and refusing to publicly renounce her faith,” said senior counsel David French. “Abandoning one’s own religious beliefs should not be a precondition at a public university for obtaining a degree.” The Alliance Defense Fund has filed similar suits against Eastern Michigan and Missouri State Universities.

The American Family Association announced a boycott of The Home Depot for having “given its financial and corporate support to open displays of homosexual activism on main streets in America’s towns,” and that instead of remaining “neutral in the culture war, The Home Depot has chose to sponsor and participate in numerous gay pride parades and festivals. Most grievous is The Home Depot’s deliberately exposing small children to lascivious displays of sexual conduct by homosexuals and cross-dressers, which are a common occurrence at these events.”

Catholic Church Feigns Shock And Anger Over Expose On Gay Priests Leading Double Lives, Attorneys For Log Cabin Republicans Request Injunction Preventing Further Discharge Of Openly Gay Service Members, GLAAD Issues First Excellent Rating To MTV, MTV’s Ryan Leslie Threatens To Smash Someone’s Gay Fucking Face In, McFly Naked Yet Again

Panorama, an Italian magazine owned, incidentally, by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Belusconi, has published an expose cover story titled “Gay Priests’ Nights on the Town,” the cover featuring a man wearing a priest’s black robe, folded hands with painted pink fingernails, clutching a rosary. The article purports to document a month’s worth of “vices and perversions” following three gay priests – two Italian, one French – as they cavort and frolic through several of Rome’s gayer gay clubs, that includes a number of random sexual conquests. The Vatican, predictably, is a tad upset. A statement from a Rome diocese said that “those who live a ‘double live, who do not understand what it is to be a Catholic priest, should not become priests,” adding that the church was “saddened and troubled” by the story. Surprisingly, given the church’s reluctance to take action, the diocese has pledged to pursue “with rigor any behaviour that is unworthy of the priestly life,” and that “no one obliges them to remain priests and keep enjoying the advantages. Consistency demands that they reveal themselves. We don’t wish them any harm, but we cannot accept that the honour of all others is dragged through the mud because of their behaviour.” Not to editorialize, but why would the church not apply the same standards to priests purported to engage in pedophilia? Also, if every gay Catholic priest were to be excommunicated it seems unlikely there would be anyone to serve mass anywhere in the world.
