Wisconsin Supreme Court Upholds State Ban On Gay Marriage And Civil Union, Arrested Gay Soldiers Intend To Subpoena Obama To Testify At Trial, New Hampshire GOP Candidate Explains Bestiality Extension Of Legal Gay Marriage, Jeggings Must Not Happen, Simon Baker Bares Butt, Nick Jonas Comfortable In Cardigan, Ed Westwick Sydney Sexiness

The Wisconsin Supreme Court Wednesday voted 7-0 to uphold the state’s ban on gay marriage and civil union, ruling unanimously that a constitutional amendment passed in 2006 that implemented the ban was in fact properly worded. A lawsuit had been filed claiming that the amendment violated an election rule that limits referendum questions to a single subject, arguing that gay marriage and civil unions were two distinct, separate issues. However, Justice Michael Gableman, who wrote the majority opinion, said that both sentences “carry out the same general purposes of preserving the legal status of marriage in Wisconsin as between only one man and one woman.”

Reports that the ten gay soldiers arrested outside the White House in protest of the United States military ban on openly gay men and women from serving will announce that they are subpoena President Obama to testify at trial. The argument is one of smart semantics, the President several times calling on gay advocate to pressure him to repeal the policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” therefore the ten were only following orders.

New Hampshire Republican candidate for congress Bob Giuda is being roundly criticised for comments he made Monday night in response to a question challenging his stance of gay rights. “During that period of time, I was asked a question about gay marriage, which, of course, I oppose, because I believe marriage is strictly between a man and woman,” Giuda said. He then continued, trying, apparently, to augment his anti-gay marriage argument, saying “what’s going to happen next? Men and sheep? Women and dogs?” He has admitted his comments could be construed as offensive, but contends that they were taken out of context. He added that he remains in favour of civil unions, but continues to oppose the repeal of the military ban on openly gay men and women serving. He said he favours the traditional definition of marriage because it protects and promotes ideas of family.

San Francisco Police Not Charging Ed Perkins With Pink Saturday Shooting, Toronto Gay Community Reacts With Anger At City Police Over G20 Catastrophe, British Rugby Club Fined 40,000 Pounds For Fan Homophobic Abuse At Gareth Thomas, Carrie Prejean Marrying Of The Opposite Sex, Cristiano Ronaldo Spanked By Spain

San Francisco police have now charged 20 year old Ed Perkins with possessing a deadly weapon and possessing a loaded weapon, his initial arrest the result of a shooting in the city Saturday at Castro and Market during the pride Pink Saturday celebrations. He is not being charged with the shooting death of 19 year old Stephen Powell, nor the attempted murders of two other injured. Police say that the .357 revolver found on Perkins was not the murder weapon, and witnesses could not place Perkins at the scene.

Anger in Toronto by the LGBT community at the city police and their actions at the G20 Summit, as a number of protesters attempted to prevent Chief Bill Blair from attending an event at the 519 Community Centre Tuesday night. Blair did manage to enter the centre, but a group inside immediately began chanting and crowding around him. Gays were among those over 900 protesters or bystanders arrested were held in separate quarters and were allegedly mistreated by police.

Castleford have been fined by the Rugby Football League after fans hurled homophobic abuse at Crusaders winger Gareth Thomas, the 35 year old who came out publically in December, 2009. The fine, forty-thousand pounds, is being appealed by the club, chief executive Richard Wright saying he was “shocked” by the decision, adding that the evidence does not support the decision and does not in any way support the scale of the penalty. We totally refute the outcome of the hearing.” However, the RFL tribunal found the Castleford Tigers guilty of unacceptable behaviour, of breaching the RFL’s Respect Policy, of misconduct by their supporters, and of conduct prejudicial to the interests of the sport. The tribunal also criticised the club for perceived failures in trying to stop the chanting and in indentifying the perpetrators, as well as for falling to conduct a “meaningful inquiry” after the incident, which took place March 26th, 2010. A spokesperson, John Ledger, said that the “RFL finds homosexual abuse unacceptable, which is reflected in the size of the fine.” The RFL partnered with Stonewall, a UK based gay rights advocacy group, in March, 2009, the only British-based governing body to do so, and according to Ledger the rugby league is “viewed by Stonewall as a model with the way it deals with issues around homosexuality.” Emanuele Palladino, an agent for Gareth Thomas, released a statement that stated “this has been an historic day. Gareth Thomas is all about delivering positive messages and positive changes and, to that end, this was a huge step forward for Gareth and the world of sport.”

Carrie Prejean announced that she and Kyle Boeller are marrying, likely because legally she can. Boeller, the former quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens and the St. Louis Rams, currently plays for the Oakland Raiders. The couple will wed Friday, and again, because under the current California law governing marriages, they can.

Two Shot Monday Attending Vigil For Fatal Victim Of Pink Saturday Shooting, Trial Date Set For British Police Officer And Former Mr. UK Gay, Rainbow Lounge Raid A Year Later, Wisconsin Supreme Court To Rule Wednesday On Gay Marriage And Civil Unions Ban

There are reports that two people were injured Monday evening attending a vigil for a man killed Saturday in San Francisco during the city’s Pink Saturday pride celebration. Police say the shooting occurred around 8:00 pm during a vigil held in the Castro District for 19 year old Stephen Powell, who was killed Saturday, a 21 year old man shot through the cheek and a 20 year old man shot in the leg. Both were taken to hospital, where they remain. Police say their injuries are not life threatening. 20 year old Ed Perkins remains in police custody charged with one count of murder in connection to Saturday’s fatal shooting spree.

United Kingdom police constable Mark Carter appeared at Leeds Crown Court Tuesday, charged with one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of attempted sexual assault following an incident that took place over two days in December, 2009, at the Etap Hotel in Leeds. A trial date was scheduled for December 13th. Carter, openly gay, who was crowned Mr. Gay UK in 2006, is to appear in court on September 7th, at which time he will enter a plea.

One year after a badly botched raid on The Rainbow Lounge by Fort Worth, Texas police and by the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission that left one patron of the gay bar seriously injured, Fort Worth Police Chief Jeff Halstead attended a barbecue dinner at the Rainbow Lounge. David Schrock, the owner of the gay bar, says he welcomes the improved relationship between the gay community and the police, the event on June 28, 2009 seeming to galvanize the Fort Worth LGBT community.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is expected to rule Wednesday on a lawsuit before the court that argues the 2006 constitutional amendment banning gay marriages and civil unions is in violation of the constitution, and therefore not valid. The lawsuit claims that the measure violated the state constitution by asking two questions at the same time on the same ballot. According to the constitution, ballot questions must be limited to a single subject. If the court rules to strike down the amendment, gay marriage would not become legal, since the state’s constitution was amended to define marriage as that existing only between one man and one woman.

Keith Phoenix Convicted Of Hate Crime Murder Of Jose O. Sucuzhanay, Police Identify San Francisco Pink Saturday Shooter, Legendary Storme DeLarverie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zac Efron Cheers The Yankees At Chavez Ravine, Ryan Kwanten: Nearly Nude/Not Nude

It took jurors seven hours to convict Keith Phoenix of murder as a hate crime in the December, 2008 death of Jose Sucuzhanay, an Ecuadorean immigrant, who, along with his brother, Phoenix and Hakim Scott mistook for gay men. Phoenix was retried on charges after the first jury ended in a mistrial. Scott was convicted in May of manslaughter, but was acquitted of a murder charge. He was not charged with committing a hate crime. The two men attacked the brothers because prosecutors contend they wanted to kill a gay man. During the attack both yelled a number of anti-gay slurs. Jose’s brother Romel was injured in the attack, but recovered. Keith Phoenix took a bat from the truck of his vehicle and repeated hit Jose over the head. He is to be sentenced August 5th at which time he faces 25 years to life in prison.

Police in San Francisco have now identified the suspected shooter who killed one and wounded two Saturday at the city’s Pink Saturday Pride celebration at Castro and Market Streets. 20 year old Ed Perkins in custody on suspicion of murder, but police would not confirm that they believe him to be the shooter. Police do not believe the shootings, which left two others in hospital, were a hate crime.

A moving portrait of the rather remarkable Storme DeLarverie, who fought the police at the Stonewall Inn in June of 1969, an action that assisted in authoring what is 41 years later the modern movement of gay rights. Storme, now approaching 90, was the cross-dressing master of ceremonies for a group of drag-queen performers, whose life – a gun carrying guardian of the gay and lesbian bars in Greenwich Village, a subject of Diane Arbus, and a longtime resident of the Chelsea Hotel – is legendary, and whose contribution to gay equality must be remembered.

United States Supreme Court Rules Student Christian Group Cannot Discriminate Against Gays, San Francisco Castro Shooting Not Hate Crime, Gay Couple Violently Attacked In Londonderry, Esera Tuaolo Domestic Assault Arrest

Monday, the last day of the 2009/2010 United States Supreme Court session, an historic, albeit incremental victory for gay rights, the Court ruling that the University of California Hastings College of the Law can legally deny recognition to the Christian Legal Society student society. On a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that the Christian group’s First Amendment rights of association, free speech, and free exercise were not violated by the college’s non-discrimination policy. Hastings College refused funding and formal recognition of the CLS because the group, which has chapters on campuses throughout the United States, requires voting members sign a statement of faith and considers “unrepentant participation in or advocacy of a sexually immoral lifestyle” as being inconsistent with that faith. Hastings has a policy that prohibits exclusion from any campus group because of either a religious belief or sexual orientation. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who wrote the majority opinion said “In requiring CLS – in common with all other student organizations – to choose between welcoming all students and forgoing the benefits of official recognition, we hold, Hastings did not transgress constitutional limitations. CLS, it bears emphasis, seeks not parity with other organizations, but a preferential exemption from Hastings policy.” Justice Samuel Aliton, who wrote a strong dissent for the conservatives of the court, said that the opinion was “a serious setback for freedom of expression in this country” and that “our proudest boast of free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express ‘the thought that we hate.’ Today’s decision rests on a very different principle: no freedom for expression that offends prevailing standards of political correctness in our country’s institution of higher learning.”

San Francisco police say that a shooting Saturday at the corner of Castro and Market Streets during the city’s Pink Saturday pride celebrations was not a hate crime, but rather the result of a personal dispute. Police say that the shooter, a 19 year old male held in custody, knew at least one of the three victims. One of the victims, 19 year old Stephen Powell, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital Saturday. The other two victims, a 19 year old woman and 29 year old man, remain in hospital, but are expected to make a full recovery.

A gay couple were brutally attacked Saturday morning in Londonderry, the two, 22 and 38 years old, beaten by three men. Police are investigating the assault as a homophobic attack. Police added there is an increase in bias motivated attacks in the area, 17 more racist-based incidents than last year and 2 more attacks based on perceived sexual orientation.

Esera Tuaolo, the former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle who came out in 2002 after retiring, was arrested Friday, and charged with domestic assault, assault, and disorderly conduct. The 41 year old was booked, and released on a $2,000 bail Monday. The judge issued Tuaolo a domestic abuse-related no-contact order with the victim, whose identity has not been revealed. A hearing is scheduled for August.

New York City Pride, Durango Colorado First Gay Pride, Mexico City Pride, Reed Cowan Wants All Gay Pride Events Cancelled Until Complete Universal Equality Gained, Iceland Prime Minister Marries Her Longtime Partner, Public Pool Steam Room In England Is The Cruising Spot Du Jour, Prince Harry Runs And Falls In New York City, Shirtless Cristiano Ronaldo Pouts

Constance McMillen, Lieutenant Dan Choi, and Judy Shepard were Grand Marshalls of the 2010 Gay Pride Parade in New York City Sunday, thousands filling the streets of Manhattan despite intense heat and humidity.

In Durango, Colorado Saturday hundreds attended the first annual Gay Pride celebration, Mayor Michael Rendon telling the audience “I’m very proud to be mayor today.”

Saturday, thousands too marched in Mexico City, celebrated the city’s first gay pride since gay marriage was approved by the capital city’s legislature – the first Latin American country to do so – and a number of those marching called on national authorities to legalize same sex unions throughout Mexico.

Reed Cowan, the director of 8: The Mormon Proposition, the documentary that examines the involvement of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in passing the anti-gay marriage referendum in California and the impact of the Church’s rigorous anti-gay stance, has an interesting, if somewhat odd proposition of his own, Cowan saying “I would like to propose to the entire worldwide gay community that they cancel gay pride events until we have marriage equality. All those thousands of people who go to gay pride, those are bodies that could put on a shirt and go into the neighbourhood and tell their story. We should wait until we have equality to have our party.”

Iceland Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, the first openly gay head of a government in the world, married her longtime partner Sunday. Sigurdardottir and Jonina Leosdottir wed as a law passed unanimously by Icelandic legislation legalizing gay marriage June 12th came into effect. The couple entered into a civil union in 2002.

The steam room at Cally Pool in Islington, a family recreation centre in England, has become the place for gay men to cruise, much to the dismay and shock of straight patrons. So popular is the site that Cruising Gays, a webpage, awarded the sauna four of five stars, as well as listing a number of other public locations perfect for the man who prefers anonymous empty sex. Adrian Kelly, a frequent user of the Cally Pool, says “I have no problem with gay people at all but it’s a family pool and you don’t know who might go in there and see something they shouldn’t,” adding that he came upon two naked men “wrapped around each other. I couldn’t believe it. I went in to relax and there were these two guys doing stuff. It was shocking.” Jason Pollock, the chairman of Pride Life gay magazine, who lives in Islington, said “I don’t approve of any such behaviour – be it gay or straight- in a family swimming pool like this. It is not as though there aren’t gay pubs, clubs, bars and saunas in the area where people can go, so it is not right if people are acting like this in a place where there are families and more importantly children around.”

Prince Harry continued his visit to New York City Sunday, the third in line to the throne first participating in the Achilles Hope and Possibility Race in Central Park.

Stanley Cup, Chicago Blackhawks Brent Sopel, Chicago Cubs Ernie Banks, And Newly Out Country Star Chely Wright Celebrate 41st Annual Chicago Pride

The Stanley Cup, Chicago Blackhawks Brent Sopel, Chicago Cubs Ernie Banks, and newly out country star Chely Wright celebrated the 41st Annual Chicago Pride as participants of the parade attending by an estimated 400,000. Sopel, who sadly was traded late last week to the Atlanta Thrashers, stood atop the Chicago Gay Hockey Association float, and said he participated in the parade to honour the memory of the late Brendan Burke, son of Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke, who was tragically killed mere months after coming out publically last November. Brendan was 21 years old. “Anyone who buries their son is heartbroken,” Sopel said. “It should never happen. It’s in their honour that I’m participating.” Sopel, accompanied by his wife, wore badges with the initials BB for Brendan, added that “we raise our kids to believe that everyone is equal. Everyone is a person, regardless of race, color, or religion,” and added that he believes gays “lead a tough life trying to deal with all of the stereotypes” and that he hopes that very soon “things will be clear and wide open for everybody.” Ernie Banks rode in the parade in a convertible with the Ricketts family, who bought the Cubs post season last year, and who made the team’s first official appearance in the parade. Banks said “I know the area – Boystown – and they’ve all been very nice and friendly with me. I want to show that I have compassion for them. They know the game and have great respect for the players.”

Anti-Gay Activist Attends Twin Cities Pride Because God Broke His Heart, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli Says 14th Amendment Created Without Thought To Gays, West Virginia Man Files Suit Claiming Police Anti-Gay Brutality

Friday, Federal Judge John Tunheim ruled that Twin Cities Pride could not prevent a Wisconsin man, Brian Johnson, attending gay pride celebrations held in a Minneapolis public park, from expressing his right to free speech – by extension expressing his anti-gay viewpoint and distributing Bibles. So Saturday, Johnson, accompanied by his wife, did just that. “I’m passing out Bibles to people who ask me for one,” he said. We’re not going up to anybody and trying to start anything. Our shirt says free Bibles, if they want one, they’ll get one.” Twin Cities Pride board member Jim Kelly said that the judge’s ruling and Johnson’s appearance is “especially offensive because we’re trying to create an event that’s really opening and affirming to gays and lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders, so when they come here they know they’re in a safe space.” Brian Johnson, however, says that he does not attend the Pride Festival “with distinct plans, we’re no big ministry, we have no money, we’re here because God broke my heart.”

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli was asked by a high school student Friday about the constitutional validity of a letter he authored arguing that state colleges and universities did not have to add anti-discrimination protections for gays and lesbians, the student wondering “how is that not a violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment?” Cuccinelli replied “Your question is, why is that not a violation of the 14 Amendment’s equal protection clause. Frankly, the category of sexual orientation would never have been contemplated by the people who wrote and voted for and passed the 14th Amendment. There are judges who think these things ‘evolve,’ is the word they like to use.”

37 year old Timothy Michael Mazza of Charleston, West Virginia has filed a civil lawsuit in a Southern District of West Virginia federal court alleging that he was the victim of an anti-gay attack by three of the city’s police officers in October, 2009, Mazza allegedly assaulted outside his home, his ribs broken, one of three officers kicking him in the ribs while saying “Now take that, you fucking queer.” Mazza says that police had been questioning him about a confrontation with his neighbours, and while he was trying to get inside his home, the three pulled him to the ground, one of the officers grabbing him by the neck, kicking him in the ribs. He was then arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, however both charges were dismissed in a magistrate court. Both the police chief and Mayor Bob Newell dispute Mazza’s claims. None of three officers would comment. The mayor says that the lawsuit is another reminder that West Virginia requires tort reform. “It is very aggravating that is being handled this way. I’ve dealt with attorneys a lot, and they are trying to get cases settled through public pressure.” Mazza, on orders by both his psychologist and physician, has been unable since October, 2009.

Shootings At San Francisco Pink Saturday Celebration Leaves Teen Dead

Terrible news from San Francisco, reports Sunday that one of the three victims of a shooting Saturday in the city’s Castro District has died. 19 year old Stephen Powell was shot in the torso late last night at Market and Castro streets during San Francisco’s Pink Saturday celebrations. A 19 year old woman and a 29 year old man were each shot in the leg and were taken to hospital. They are expected to survive. Powell was pronounced dead on arrival. According to police, a 19 year old man has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, police adding that the handgun used in the crime has been recovered. No further details have been released. Pink Saturday is the street party held annually in the city on the evening prior to the Gay Pride Parade; an event that is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Thousands Gather In Paris Celebrating Gay Pride, Ronnie Kroell And Boyfriend Taylor Proffitt Private Photographs, Jake Pavelka Is Not Gay, Big Brother 11 Ben Also Not Gay, Prince Harry Takes To The Mound At New York Mets Game

Thousands gathered in Paris today, marching through the streets of the French capital supporting gay pride and for full gay equality. Over 80 floats participated in the parade, a message to end discrimination and anti-gay violence as well as to officially recognize gay marriage and the right of gay couples to adopt. Vincent Loiseau, a spokesperson for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual Inter-Association, said that “polls show 65-percent of French people are in favour of gay marriage and 57-percent in favour of adoption, all left-wing parties support marriage and adoption, but some on the right block any further advancement of rights.”

Ronnie Kroell, the openly gay finalist from season one of Bravo’s Make Me a Supermodel, and June’s Playgirl’s cover boy, and his boyfriend, Taylor Proffitt, recently completed a private photo session, and while there is no full nudity, there are bulges aplenty and the shoot is actually more sensual that the Playgirl spread.

Meanwhile, The Bachelor’s Jake Pavelka announces over and over that he is not gay.

Also not gay, the United Kingdom’s Big Brother 11 Ben, as at least according to his childhood “best friend” Ben, the two seemingly, um, a tad gay.

St. Petersburg Gay Pride Proceeds; Police Arrest Five Gay Activists And Several Anti-Gay Protestors, Bulgaria Gay Pride Attracts 700; Police Presence Prevents Anti-Gay Protestors From Disrupting Event

As promised, a number of gay activists in St. Petersburg, Russia staged an unsanctioned Gay Pride protest Saturday, an estimated 30 gad advocates assembling in the inner courtyard of the famed Hermitage Museum carrying signs demanding equality and an end to homophobia. According to earlier reports, police arrived shortly thereafter and arrested five of the activists. St. Petersburg officials repeated denied permits to hold a parade, citing safety concerns, but the gay rights group were determined to hold a rally. There were threats from anti-gay extremists nationals as well, and a Saturday a contingent of the homophobic hooligans armed with truncheons arrived moments after the gay activists began to protest. They too were dispersed by police, who also arrested several. Leading Russian gay activist Nikolai Alexeyev said of the protest “It is clear that this is against the constitution. But our main task was to prevent clashes and we were successful in this.”

In Bulgaria, a strong police presence successfully prevented any of the protestors from disrupting the parade an estimated 700 participated in the 3rd Annual Sofia Pride under the watchful eyes of 300 police officers. The precise parade route was kept secret up until the last minute; a safety precaution given the continued opposition to gay right by both the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and insurgent nationalists. Early in the day an estimated 100 nationalist extremists gathered to protest the Sofia Pride gay parade, carrying signs that read “Gays Want Death For Bulgarians” and “All the Gays, Go To Uganda.” A strong, visible police presence is on hand, there to protect the parade participants, which is scheduled to begin later Saturday afternoon. Among the anti-gay protestors, Stetoslav Dimitrov, a 26 year old who handed flyers that read “Homosexuals fornicate with minors; those who are attracted by people of the same sex are from 1% to 35 of the population but commit 1/3 of all sexual crimes against children.” He offered no authenticity of the statistics and denied authorship.

Syncrude Found Guilty In Landmark Dead Ducks Environmental Case, Pride Toronto Battle Looms, Judge Rules Anti-Gay Man Can Attend Minneapolis/St. Paul Pride, GLAAD Calls Out The View Stupidity, Inside James Franco Solo Art Show, Inside New A&F Quarterly, Backstage With Evandro Soldati And Arthur Sales And Marlon Teixeira

Syncrude Canada Limited, an oil and gas giant, was found guilty Friday on both charges in an Alberta provincial court – a provincial count of failing to prevent a hazardous substance from coming into contact with wildlife and a federal count of depositing a substance harmful to migratory birds. The charges were the result of the discovery on April 28th, 2008 of more than 1,600 ducks in a tailings pond – a 12 square-kilometre toxic lake that is used in the industrial processing of the bitumen mined from the Alberta oil sands. Judge Ken Tjosvold said that “Syncrude had in previous years cut back substantially on a number of deterrents. Staff had been reduced. It should have been obvious to Syncrude that deterrents should be in place as early in the spring as possible. Syncrude did not deploy the deterrents early enough or quickly enough.” Attorneys for the oil company have argued that the two charges are too similar and amounted to double jeopardy. Judge Tjosvold said that the Crown and Syncrude could argue which of the two charges is most serious, allowing that only one of the charges might be formally entered as a conviction. The victory is an obvious one for environmentalists, who point to the possibility that tailings pond – which are paramount to the refining of oil sands bitumen – illegal.

Pride Toronto threatens to be a showdown between Kulanu Toronto, a Jewish LGBTQ group and Queers Against Israeli Apartheid.

Federal Judge John Tunheim ruled Friday that Twin Cities Pride cannot prohibit a Wisconsin man, Brian Johnson, from distributing the Bible and expressing his opinions against homosexuality at an event this weekend in Minneapolis. Twin Cities Pride had contended that since they were leasing out Loring Park for the weekend, they held the right to prevent Johnson from passing out literature. Tunheim, however, said that as long as Johnson remains undisruptive, his is entitled to exercise his right to free speech in a public park. Johnson appeared at the 2009 Gay Pride event, and was arrested. Organizers wanted additional restrictions put in place and requested a temporary restraining order be issued; a request the judge denied.

GLAAD has issued a call to action regarding the June 22nd episode of The View and a discussion about the Food and Drug Administration’s ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood. Co-host D.L. Hughley and host Sherri Shepherd – both spectacularly stupid – managed to equate the rise of newly reported HIV infections among African-American women to bisexual African-American men who sleep “on the down low.”

Houston Community College Transgendered Student Attacked On Campus, Vallejo California Residents Ignore Crime And Economic Woe To Attack Gays, Nevada Nut Sharron Angle History Of Nurturing Anti-Gay Hate

Lance Reyna, a 29 year old Houston Community College political science student says he attacked at the school’s fine arts building Tuesday – beaten and robbed – because he is transgendered, Reyna saying that the suspect uttered several anti-gay slurs in a “flamboyant” voice meant to mock him. Reyna, who is well known on campus for his work in a number of gay advocacy groups, suffered a concussion in the assault, the attacker stealing his wallet. Houston Community College spokesperson Dan Arguijo said that the attacker’s image was captured on security cameras and that campus police will confer with Reyna about what charges should be made if the suspect is caught.

Vallejo, California continues to be a community divided over gay issues. Mayor Osby Davis, who in November said of gay men and women, “they’re committing sin, and that sin will keep them out heaven,” issued a proclamation in late May, unanimously passed by City Council, declaring June Gay Pride Month in the city. Lou Bordisso, an openly gay bishop emeritus of the American Catholic Church followed the mayor, taking to the podium to say “we very much appreciate the solidarity. I think tonight helps to demonstrate that we can heal the wounds and divisions that we have in Vallejo.” Then, predictably, Pastor P. Daniels Jefferson of the Vallejo Faith Organization, a quasi-religious group that believes homosexuality can be cured, stood to denounce the Pride proclamation, saying “homosexuality is a controversial subject. It is troubling that so many now want the government to take sides in this issue by endorsing a Gay Pride Month.” All this hatred by the way, occurs at moment in time while the city declares bankruptcy, California took control of its schools, and there has been an increase in violent crime.

Nevada nut Sharron Angle, the state’s Republican Senate candidate, was card carrying member of the state’s Independent American Party, a lunatic-fringe third party that traffics in political paranoia, Angle in good standing for six years before switching to the GOP in 1997. Her work there: disturbing. In 1992 she signed and circulated a petition that called for the abolishment of the debt money system and would “prohibit the financing of the New World Order with American taxes.” Most troubling, in 1994 the party placed a 16-page advertising insert in all Nevada newspapers promoting an amendment to the state constitution that would explicitly encourage discrimination against LGBT individuals by businesses and the government. That insert, a kind of encyclopaedia of homophobia, alerted citizens that the HIV virus can survive in water, and that infection through contact with public pools, hot tubs, and municipal water supplies was possible.

St. Petersburg Gay Activists Determined To March Saturday Despite City Ban And Threats From Extremists, Straight Swingers Score High STD Rates, Anna Paquin, American Soccer Hotness Abounds, Rafael Nadal, Matthew Mitcham

Thursday, organizers of a Gay Pride parade in St. Petersburg, Russia, said that despite threats from nationalist extremists and the continual denial by City Hall to authorize the event, a march will be held Saturday. Maria Yefremenkova, the organizing committee’s chair, said “I blame the Russian authorities for any possible attack on use and any possible damage that we suffer.” Earlier in the day, Yefremenkova filed a lawsuit against a City Hall’s law, order, and security committee over the rejections, which she deemed “derisive, City Hall having twice rejected applications for an event permit, while a third application filed Thursday has been met by silence. “The St. Petersburg tolerance program is applied to national minorities only, but not to gays or lesbians,” said Yefremenkova, “and I hope our action will show the true face of this St. Petersburg tolerance. Our governor (Valentina Matviyenko) has recently been praised by UNESCO for promoting tolerance and non-violence – where is her much-lauded tolerance?”

Researchers at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands revealed a study Thursday that shows swingers – heterosexual couples who swap partners and/or engage in group sex – have some of the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases.

Anna Paquin says she has no regret about announcing that she is bisexual, telling Self magazine that “I understand why it’s a big deal to some people, but to me, it’s not. I’ve probably always known I was bisexual. I’m really lucky; I grew up in an open-minded, supportive family, so my sexuality was never stigmatized or scary or out of bounds.”

European Court Of Appeals Rules States not Obligate To Allow Gay Marriage, Wisconsin Court Of Appeals Rules Gay Parents Do Not Have Equal Rights, General McChrystal Fired Over Gay Remark, Openly Gay Yannick Nezet-Seguin Philadelphia’s New Musical Conductor, Twilight Saga Grows Gayer, Backstage Dolce And Gabbana, Frederick Bousquet Body Subject Of Documentary, John Isner Wins Epic Tennis Match

Thursday, the European Court of Human Rights ruled on a complaint filed by a gay couple in Austria who were denied the right to marry. The Court voted 7-0 that there was no violation of human rights, and that states are not obligated by law to allow gay marriage where no laws exist sanctioning same sex unions.

In Madison, Wisconsin, a court ruled Thursday that a woman who raised two adopted children for six years in a same sex relationship is not considered to be their parent under current state law. District 4 Court of Appeals ruled that only the woman’s former partner can be considered the children’s legal guardian since the adoptions were made under the partner’s name. Same sex couples in Wisconsin do not have the right to legally adopt in the state, as a consequence only the adoption applicant can be regarded as the legal parent.

There are reports – unconfirmed by the White House – that President Obama and his top aides decided to fire General Stanley McChrystal immediately after reading the first few paragraphs of the now infamous Rolling Stone article, The Runaway General, White House assistant press secretary Tommy Vietor being e-mailed an advance copy. Politico.com reports that “the passage that really torqued the president, advisers say, was McChrystal’s reported contempt for U.S. allies in Afghanistan – especially the French – illustrated in the story by McChrystal’s reluctance to meet a senior official in Paris, a dinner appointment one McChrystal aide called ‘gay.’”

Brian Burke On Son Brendan: “I Want To Continue The Things He Would Have Done If He Were Still Around”

July 4th, in Toronto, Brian Burke will be among the parents marching under the PFLAG banner at Pride Toronto’s Parade, Burke’s poignant participation underlining what has been a painful, but ultimately powerful journey for the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In November, 2009, his son Brendan came out publically, conveying plans to promote with hockey a program to combat homophobia, Brian supportive as both a proud parent and an influential member of the National Hockey League. Then on February 5th, Brendan, 21 years old, was killed in a car crash driving during a snow storm. Through his father though, Brendan, and his work, proceeds. “I’m not looking for anything out of this except to continue Brendan’s work,” says Brian. “I don’t want any profile. I’m a parent.” Brian says that despite his modesty, people solicit advice. “Parents say ‘How do I know if my kid is going to be gay?’ You don’t. Statistically, if you have ten kids, you’re going to have one gay one. The odds are, you’re going to know someone who’s gay.” And he offers the following: “You don’t know if your kids are going to be gay or not. Nor should you care. What you want is happy, healthy kids. Brendan was happy and healthy. But the thing that’s hard to do is if you take a hard position on these things, and then your son or daughter comes to you and says they’re gay. Those are hard things to take back. Hard things to un-say.” Brian is also partnered with Egale Canada, the advocacy organization that fights for equality and justice for the LGBT community in the country, as well as their families, and is instrumental in working towards the creation of inclusive, safe schools for LGBT youth, paramount at a period when statistics show anti-gay bullying is increasing. “It’s a real problem in our schools,” says Brian. It’s a problem for gay kids, for small kids, anyone different. I hate bullies ... I didn’t realize the magnitude of the problem. What Brendan would have wanted was for me to continue some of these things. What he did was very brave, coming out and working in hockey. I want to continue the things he would have done if he were still around.”

Supreme Court Rules Anti-Gay Referendum 71 Signatures Be Made Public

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the names of individuals who signed a petition in an effort to repeal a new gay rights law in Washington State must be made public. Protect Marriage Washington had requested that the justices shield the names of the 138,000 people who signed Referendum 71 petitions in an attempt to overturn the state’s same sex domestic partner law. The Referendum did not pass, state constituents ultimately voting to uphold the legislation. Protect Marriage Washington argued that protected privacy was paramount in political speech, and that petition signers would be subject to harassment and threats if their identities were to be revealed. The State argued that there are laws in place to protect those who may be threatened. It is not yet known when the names of those who signed R-71 petitions will be made public.

Pride Toronto Reverses Ruling Banning Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, American Family Association President Says Permitting Will Phillips To Serve As Pride Grand Marshall Akin To Child Abuse, Self-Hating And Suddenly Outed Lutheran Pastor Takes Vacation, Jake Gyllenhaal, Andy Roddick Rear View

Late Wednesday Pride Toronto reversed a decision to ban the phrase “Israeli Apartheid” from any and all Pride endorsed events, in effect banning the group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, and will now request that each participant read, sign, and obey the City of Toronto’s Declaration of a Non-Discrimination Policy. Pride Toronto’s earlier ruling seemed contingent on threats made by the city and certain sponsors to withdraw funding and participation if the militant political group was not prohibited from marching the parade. Several purported prominent community honourees returned their Pride awards in protest, including the predictable bore Jane Farrow, who said that Pride Toronto “had hard decisions to make. They reviewed the reaction. They revisited their decision and they made a better decision. That’s called good leadership, that’s not backing down.” Others, like Avi Benlolo, the president of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies, offered a differing opinion. “We feel that Pride Toronto is no longer a representative of gay rights, but has now been unfortunately hijacked and become a vehicle for anti-Israel bashing and agitation,” he said.

Lunatic Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, coordinated an en mass e-mail protest against the Northwest Arkansas Pride celebrations, over three hundred e-mails sent to Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan asking that he withdraw the city’s support for the parade and other Pride events, the form letter reading “I am shocked to learn that the city of Fayetteville is issuing a proclamation in support of the homosexual activist group, Northwest Arkansas Pride.” Most the e-mails were sent from non-city residents. Wildmon meanwhile said that permitting 10 year old Will Phillips to serve as parade Grand Marshall was tantamount to child abuse. “It’s shameful that adults would abuse a brain-washed child in this way. He’s obviously just parroting the nonsense he’s been told by manipulative adults,” adding that the parade should be cancelled because “there is nothing about homosexual conduct to be proud of, and much to be ashamed of.”

Anti-gay Lutheran Pastor Tom Brock, who is, surprise, gay, has taken a leave of absence from his Minneapolis church after being outed by Lavender magazine. A reporter, undercover, posed a member of Faith in Action, a support group for men who struggle with same sex attraction. The Church stressed that Brock will return to preaching because by attending the group, which in effect believes that gay can be prayed away, he acted in accordance with the teachings of his faith. The story is complicated on two levels. First, any support group by definition functions successfully because of the supposed guarantee of members can remain anonymous, a guarantee that the magazine compromised. Second, and perhaps more importantly, Brock has no business maintaining a charade that is dangerous and does damage to men who believe his word is the word of the God.

Philadelphia Jury Rules In Favour Of Anti-Gay Boy Scouts, Glee Institutes A No Sex On Set Ban, John Isner And Nicholas Mahut Epic Wimbledon Match Moves To Day Three, Landon Donovan Pushes America Through To Round Two Of FIFA World Cup

In Philadelphia, a federal jury late Wednesday ruled in favour of the Boy Scouts of America, deciding that the city violated the Scout’s First Amendment rights using the organization’s anti-gay policy as a reason to evict them from city owned offices. The unanimous verdict by a jury of two women and four men means that the troop cannot be removed from the property and that it does not have to pay rent. However, the jury’s answers to the eleven questions on the verdict sheet were “inconsistent” according to City Solicitor Shelly Smith. She said that “when verdict sheets have inconsistent answers, the potential exists that the verdict is flawed. We will be exploring our options.”

Ryan Murphy, the openly gay creator of the social phenomenon that is Glee has issued a no sex on the set ban after rumours were rampant some cast members were engaged in sexual activities in their trailers. “I’ve certainly dated people I’ve worked with and, you know, when you work on set for 18 hours a day I think it’s natural,” said Murphy, who would not name names. “But I have a rule: don’t do it in your trailer. They’ve broken that rule on many occasions. I’m like ‘I know you guys are young and hormonal, but don’t do in your trailer.’ I’m the day, that’s what I say.” Any guesses as to who was hooking up with whom?

Yellowknife Man Refused To Rent To Gay Couple Fearing The Wrath Of God, Magnitude 5 Earthquake Hits Central Canada, Gay Themed Youth Literature Rescues Publishing Industry, Clay Aiken Is Not On The Market, Jesse Tyler Ferguson Says Poignant Cam And Mitchell Kiss Coming, Ryan Phillippe Looks A Little Worn, Josh Hartnett Looks A Lot Hot

Scott Robertson and Richard Anthony told a human rights panel in Yellowknife that they signed a one-year lease on a residential building in the city, but the landlord refused to honour the contract after realizing the two men were a couple. The couple were subsequently left homeless for ten days, and have suffered anxiety and stress since the disagreement just over a year ago. Property owner Will Goertzen told the tribunal that he rented the unit to another family because he said he feared the wrath of God if he permitted gays to live in the apartment.

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck central Canada Wednesday afternoon, the effects felt from Windsor, Ontario to Montreal, Quebec, as well as several American cities. Reported damage was minimal.

Gay themed youth literature is saving the publishing industry, with traditional houses like Penguin and Random House seeing sales of titles like Will Grayson, Will Grayson soar, and a new genre being created.

Clay Aiken, asked whether he is single or dating, says “I am not on the market. I don’t know what I am. I am not looking, let me put it that way!”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, appearing this summer in New York City’s Shakespeare in the Park, says that the writers of Modern Family intend to address the issue of why his character, Mitchell, and the character of Cam, played to perfection by Eric Stonestreet, have yet to kiss onscreen, an obvious oversight since the husbands are so clearly in love. “I am for progressive movement within the show,” says Ferguson. “I appreciate the passion that some of the fans have. The fact that there is even a campaign on Facebook just shows how many people really love the show and the characters and want to see them happy. I think the writers are proceeding in a very wise way. There’s a great PDA episode they’re writing about Mitchell’s issues with public displays of affection. Viewers shouldn’t be expecting a big, ‘Gone with the Wind’ romantic kiss. It’s very beautiful and poignant. The writers are so good, they’re really taking that criticism and they’re going to run with it and try and create a talking point with it.”

A “tired” appearing Ryan Phillippe spotted arriving at the Soho House in West Hollywood Monday trying to hide the fact he was so “tired.”

International Community Continues To Ignore The State-Sanctioned Massacre Of Gays In Iraq, Mike Huckabee Says He Borrowed Phrase “Ick Factor” Describing Gays From Gays, Twin Cities Pride Goes To Court To Have Bible Distribution At Pride Event Stopped, Deliberations In Philadelphia Boy Scouts Suit, Outing Of Minnesota Pastor Condemned For Violated Confidentiality Of Support Group

Why are the United Kingdom and the United States failing to investigate the organized state-sanctioned massacre of hundreds of gays, lesbians, and transgender seriously? A report documents 738 LGBT killings in five years, and despite insistence in 2009 by Colorado Representative Jared Polis that at least one man has been executed by the government for “membership of a banned organisation” and that “egregious human rights violations” were being “carried out by Iraqi government officials from the ministry of the interior” calls that the gay rights are routinely abused have so far been met by silence.

Former Arkansas governor and failed Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is quoted in a New Yorker profile arguing against gay marriage, “I do believe that God created male and female and intended for marriage to be the relationship of the two opposite sexes. Male and female are biologically compatible to have a relationship. We can get into the ‘ick factor,’ but the fact is two men in a relationship, two women in a relationship, biologically, that doesn’t work the same.” Huckabee is now defending his use of the phrase ‘ick factor’, but not apologizing for the inanity of the statement, instead telling Policito.com that “my use of the phrase ‘ick factor’ was as the established notion from with the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender community. It was not an indication of personal aversion, but rather a reference to an established phrase used mostly from same-sex marriage advocates and militants – not one I created.”

In Minnesota, Twin Cities Pride is scheduled to seek a federal injunction Wednesday to prevent an anti-gay group from distributing Bibles at the day-long event. Twin Cities Pride contend that they have paid tens of thousands of dollars to secure Loring Park for the weekend’s event, and therefore have the right to control and determine the message of the event. Minneapolis Parks and Recreation counter, saying that it has given permission to an organization to be on park property during the Pride celebrations because it is defending free speech. Eileen Scallen, an attorney for the Pride Festival, said that “the park board’s decision is akin to allowing the Klu Klux Klan to openly convey their racist and anti-immigration views at the Cinco de Mayo festival.”

Deliberations begin Wednesday in Philadelphia in the United States District Court to decide whether the Boy Scouts of America can be evicted from a city-owned building because the chapter will not renounce the national organization’s ban against homosexuals. The Scouts argue that if forced either to being paying $200,000 in rent yearly – up from $1 annually – or vacate the premises violates their right to free speech and due process. The city contends that they are maintaining a policy that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Not surprisingly, Lutheran Pastor Tom Brock – who infamously correlated a tornado striking a church and the Minnesota Convention Centre to gay marriage – has been outed, although the actual outing by Minneapolis based Lavender magazine is being condemned by some. A reporter was sent uncover to a support group for gay men struggling with chastity; a group where rules of confidentiality are paramount to participation, and many regard the reporter as having violated that ethos.

LGBT Coalition Protests G20 Summit In Toronto, General McChrystal Summoned To Washington, Rolling Stone Article On General Quotes Aide As Saying Dinner With French Minister Is "Fucking Gay,” Beenie Man Bounced From Netherlands Festival, Nick Jonas West End Debut, Nick Jonas Soho Sexy

More than one hundred protesters chanting “we queer, we’re fabulous, we’re against the G20” took to the streets of downtown Toronto Tuesday in an attempt to bring attention to the absence of rights for marginalized minorities, including gender identity, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Police, who formed a secure barrier surrounding the group, reportedly arrested one protestor. The Group of Eight is meeting in Huntsville, Ontario, north of the city from June 25th to June 26th. The larger G20 Summit is scheduled for June 26th through the 27th in Toronto, Canada spending an estimated $1 billion on security costs.

American General Stanley A. McChrystal is en route to Washington where he will meet with President Obama Wednesday, the president to make decision between dismissing comments made by the general deemed insubordinate or to terminate the top commander at a paramount time in Afghanistan. McChrystal is the subject of Rolling Stone interview – titled The Runaway General – in which he is critical of the Obama administration, including the president, although most of the more damming critique is actually made by his staff officers. The interview was to take place over two days in April, however because of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, the freelance writer ended up embedded with the general and his staff for almost a month.

Missed by most of the American media in the Rolling Stone story is author Michael Hastings opening account of the general and his aides in a hotel room in Paris in mid-April, McChrystal expressing dismay at fulfilling an obligation to have dinner with a French politician. After the general leaves the room, Hastings asks an aide who the dinner is with. “Some French minister,” replies the aide, “It’s fucking gay.”

Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission Settle Gay Harassment Complaint, Sarah Palin Prays For End To BP Problem, Sarah Palin Endorses Anti-Gay Far-Right Lunatic, Anna Wintour Never Takes Elevators, Evandro Soldati, Ricky Martin Front Row At Armani, Jake Gyllenhaal

A human rights complaint filed by a former employee at the Nova Scotia youth jail in Waterville has been settled, the man, whose name is banned from publication, contending that co-workers and a supervisor harassed him for six years perceiving him to be gay. As a part of the settlement, the facility agreed to work with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission to ensure that practices and services at the jail, in particular those regarding gay youth, are “optimal.”

Sarah Palin, failed Republican vice-presidential candidate and Alaska governor, said Sunday “Gulf disaster needs divine intervention as man’s efforts have been futile. Gulf lawmakers designate today Day of Prayer for solution/miracle.”

Palin, more problematically, has endorsed Star Parker for California’s 37th congressional district, Parker, whose past as criminal accomplice and welfare fraudster are well documented, but that she authored an article arguing that legalizing gay marriage in Washington, D.C. will increase the new infections of HIV, writing that “it should concern every American as we watch our nation’s capital city transform officially into Sodom.”

A story shared by Tim Gunn about Anna Wintour not taking elevators and instead being carried down flights of stairs is so silly it simply must be true!

York University Study Suggests Gay Men Have Bilateral Brains, Police Constable Mark Carter Appears In British Court On Sexual Assault Charges, Texan GOP Platform Opposes Census Bureau And Red Light Cameras And All Gays, San Francisco HIV/AIDS Expert Retires Fatigued By insurance Industry Interference

A new study from York University in Toronto suggests that gay men are able to recall familiar faces faster and with greater accuracy than straight men, because, according to the study, gay men use both sides of their brains. The study, published in the journal Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain and Cognition, shows that homosexual men display patterns of bilateralism – the usage of both sides of the brain, a theory that explains why over the years I have cultivated so many, unlikely celebrity friends.

27 year old Police constable Mark Carter appeared in Leeds Magistrates’ Court Tuesday charged with one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of an attempted sexual assault the result of an incident at the Etap Hotel in Leeds on December 19th, 2009. Carter, who was crowned Mr. Gay UK in 2006,was set free on bail and will appear in Leeds Crown Court on June 29th. During Tuesday’s brief hearing the court heard the charges involve four alleged victims and the alleged assaults are said to have occurred over two days between December 18th and 19th. Carter was also charged with possession of the class C drug Stanazol.

The Texas Republican Party released its 2010 state party platform, and it reads like fiction, frightening, paranoid fiction in fact. Among the lowlights: an opposition to affirmative action, to the census bureau, and a belief that red light cameras be banned. Also, under a section titled Strengthening Families, Protecting Life and Promoting Health, the platforms calls for a ban on gay marriage and of homosexuality says “we believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behaviour is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our county’s founders, and shared by a majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should family be redefined to include homosexual ‘couples.’ We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of the state of origin), custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We opposed any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.”

Doctor Marcus Conant, among the first and the best AIDS specialists in San Francisco, has left the city and his practice, having grown weary of interference by the insurance industry in the United States and spiralling costs. Dr. Conant has been in private practice for decades and in 1981 was one of the first to diagnose cases of Kaposi’s sarcoma, the cancer-like skin disease that became hallmark of the AIDS epidemic. In 1982, he started the organization that would eventually become the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Confirmed: Stanley Cup Carrying Chicago Blackhawks Participating In Chicago Pride Parade

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that they have accepted an invitation extended by the Chicago Gay Hockey Association to have the Stanley Cup winning team represented in the 2010 Chicago Gay Pride Parade. The Blackhawks were to take the Cup to the NHL draft held in Los Angeles this weekend, but team president John McDonough is rerouting it to Chicago, where it will be carried by defenseman Brent Sopel, seen below holding the Stanley Cup after the Blackhawks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in game six, in overtime, 4-3. McDonough said that “the power of the Cup is incomprehensible, and we recognize the importance of doing this. It is important for the city and important for the franchise.” Sopel, who will be accompanied by his wife Kelly, daughters Jayla and Lyla, 6 and 8 years old respectively, as well as the couple’s two sons, 12 year old Jacob and 20 year old Paul, said he is “honoured to do it.” He added that he is also marching in honour of Brendan Burke, the son of Toronto Maple Leafs’ General Manager Brian Burke, killed in an automobile accident months after he came out publically. “When Brendan came out, Brian stood by him, and his whole family stood by him, like every family should,” said Sopel. “We teach our kids about accepting everybody. Tolerate everybody, to understand where everyone is coming from.” It has also been confirmed that the Chicago Cubs will indeed have a float in this year’s parade – the first in the parade’s history – and that in addition to a number of current players, the great Ernie Banks – Mr. Cubs – will be atop the float.
