Thousands Pose For Spencer Tunick In Sydney, Hundreds In Netherlands Protest Priest Refusal To Serve Communion, 500,000 Sign Petition To Repeal Proposed Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Clay Aiken Finds Life Lead In Truth Liberating

In Sydney, Australia, thousands gathered on the step of the city’s famed Opera House, a part of photographer Spencer Tunick’s project – Mardi Gras: The Base. Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival executive producer said that 5,200 individual, from all ages and all walks of life, went nude for Tunick, for art and diversity. Tunick said the shoot – his second in Australia – was about the sameness of individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation. “Gay men and women lay naked next to their straight neighbours” said Tunick, adding that “this delivered a very strong message to the world that Australians embrace a free and equal society.”

Hundreds of Dutch gay activists disrupted a Catholic mass in the Netherlands Sunday. The protest was a response to an incident earlier in February when a priest in the country refused to serve communion to an openly gay man. The Netherlands was the first country in the world to offer gay marriage, legalized in 2001.

In Uganda, advocates opposed to the country’s proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009 will attempt to deliver a petition signed by 500,000 to the speaker of the parliament. The campaign is being organized by Anglican priest Cannon Gideon Byamugisha, joined by HIV/AIDs activists and civic organizations world-wide.

A report of Clay Aiken’s appearance Saturday night at the Human Rights Campaign gala in Raleigh, North Carolina, Aiken delivering an articulate, engaging, and outspoken speech about equality. Aiken, addressing why he took so long to come out, said “what the hell took me so long? I was waiting like so many folks are waiting ... for change. I realize the time for waiting has passed. The power of truth and living honestly is very liberating.”

Malawi Police Hunt For Prominent Gays After Pornographic Films Found, Austin Anti-Gay Bashing Rally Attracts Hundreds, Germany Indexes And Bans Reggae Albums Promoting Anti-Gay Anthems, Scott Pasfield Documents Gay America, Nicholas Hoult Is The Movie Star, About A Boy Named Chris, Prince Harry

Once again, police in Malawi believe they are on the trail of gays, after discovering “pornographic films” at the offices of a gay rights advocacy group in Blantyre. Police spokesperson Davie Chingwalu said that police were called after thieves broke into the office of rights organization – which Chingwalu refused to identify – and “at this hide-out, we discovered pornographic films, files and information about gay meetings. Our initial findings are that this office was patronised by a lot of prominent people and immediately launched the probe to track down the gays.” He added that the police “are targeting some prominent personalities and our suspects include legislators, priest, academics and other professionals.” Once captured, Chingwalu said, the suspects would be charged with “having carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature” as well as “indecent practices between males.”

On Saturday, hundreds took the streets of Austin, Texas in a show of support for two men – Emmanuel Winston and Matthew Morgan – who were gay bashed on February 20th while walking to a parking garage in City Hall. The two had left a bar and had been playing softball earlier that day. They were wearing jerseys for the Shady Ladies, a gay softball league, and they say their attackers used a number of anti-gay slurs during the attack. Austin police, who released a surveillance video that captures, albeit poorly, the four men, have yet to decide whether the charges will carry an additional hate crime qualification.

The German Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons has indexed a number of reggae albums it considers not only harmful to young people, but, containing violent lyrics, are capable of inciting hatred towards gays. The albums by the usual suspects - Buju Banton, Capleton - are banned for sale to minors and are illegal to advertise. The move is seen as underlining a contention that artists are free to express but must assume some responsibility for those expressions, especially when harbouring an unwarranted attack on a group who’s right to exist is innate.

Photographer Scott Pasfield, in 2008, started a project titled Gay America, an attempt to document “out and proud gay men throughout the country who live happily in the state they call home.” The results of the Pasfield project are simply spectacular – articulating the obvious: that gay men live lives well beyond clichés and tired stereotypes.

Fort Worth Proceeds Prosecuting Rainbow Lounge Victims, Proposition 8 Proponents Argue Gay Marriage Will Lead To Bisexual Group Marriages, Ben Gardiner, Adam Lambert Talks Drug Use, Tim Urban Uber-Hot Body, More Mystery Blond Male Model, Nude Chad White For D&G, Prince Harry

Wednesday, Fort Worth, Texas prosecutors decided to proceed with criminal charges against Chad Gibson and George Armstrong, two of the men involved in the botched raid by local and state officials June 28th, at the Rainbow Lounge, a city gay bar. Gibson was badly injured and was hospitalized for a week. After an internal investigation two of the agents for the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission were terminated for violated procedures, while three of the Fort Worth officers involved were suspended, and Jeff Haldstead, city police chief, has repeatedly said that the officers were mistaken to raid the newly opened bar, that they were disrespectful to the patrons, and that their force was aggressive. Adam Seidel, the attorney for both men, said “the city’s message has been, ‘Let’s learn from this and move forward and get past it.’ That doesn’t seem to be consistent with prosecuting these two victims.

Chief Justice Vaughn Walker, in preparation for closing arguments at the federal trial challenging the constitutional validity of California’s gay marriage ban, requested both sides file briefs summarizing their evidence, and Friday the opponents of gay marriage added arguments to their case. Inexplicably, the defendants claim that if gay marriage is legal it will afford bisexuals an argument for group marriages, as well as encourage fathers to abandon their children.

A memorial service was held Saturday in San Francisco for Ben Gardiner, who died in January at the age of 88. Mr. Gardiner, a Harvard graduate who fought at the Battle of Bulge, was a gay activist, whose work creating a nation-wide HIV/AIDS information computer bulletin board was instrumental in generating a public conversation about the disease in the 1980’s at a moment in history when HIV/AIDS was grotesquely misunderstood.

Adam Lambert is interviewed by the British tabloid News of the World, and says “I am a pretty open-minded person and I would have sex with a woman,” and that “there are certain drugs out there that are really fun and recreational and can mean a good time.” He adds that the supposed sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards last November was in part a reply to Out magazine for suggesting that Lambert had a responsibility to be out and proud, Lambert saying “I was thinking: ‘Is this gay enough for you?’”

Meanwhile, American Idol suffers through its worst season ever, with no one of interest or talent, and Vote For The Worst has taken up the cause of Tim Urban, kicked off, but then returned, who cannot sing at all, but who does have a smoking sexy body, an asset that Vote For The Worst believes will take him to finals should tweens get aboard the Tim Urban train.

Chilean Earthquake, Tsunami Warnings, Sydney Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, Amnesty Warns Of Anti-Gay Lithuania Law, Man Cured Of Gay Found Not Guilty By Saskatchewan Appeal Court Of Anti-Gay Hate

Reports from the New York Times on the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Chile at approximately 3:00 am, a state of emergency declared, and the death toll estimated at 214, and the scene much different from that in Haiti, despite this earthquake being more powerful than the one that hit Haiti on January 12th, that killed at least 230,000. Chile is situated in one of the world’s most active earthquake zones and building codes are as strict as possible. There have been repeated aftershocks, some recorded as strong as 6.9.

One of the earthquake’s residual effect – Tsunamis – has set off warnings along the North American pacific coast, from Mexico to British Columbia, but Hawaii in particular is on alarm. The Honolulu Advertiser reports on the evacuations of cities throughout the islands, and offers a live streaming video of Waikiki Beach.

A report, including a pictorial portfolio, from the Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday evening’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. The 2010 incarnation themed History of the World featured more than 9500 participants and 135 floats, including one entry featuring 150 George Michael look-a-likes.

Amnesty International is calling on Lithuania authorities to repeal a law to take effect Monday, March 1st titled the Law on the Protection of Minors against the Detrimental Effect of Public Information. The measure will effectively restrict the distribution of public information that relates to the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals, and is in fact legalized discrimination.

Bill Whatcott, who claims to have been cured of being gay after finding God, was found not guilty Friday by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeals of violating the province’s human rights code. In 2005, Whatcott was found guilty of violating the Human Rights code after he has put anti-gay leaflets in the mailboxes of a number of individuals during the years 2001 and 2002. Whatcott has argued that he was exercising his right to free speech.

Minneapolis Man Charged After Knowingly Infecting At Least Two With HIV, Daniel Radcliffe Supports The Trevor Project, Neil Patrick Harris To Direct LA Revival Of Rent, Puck Buddy Canadian Male Models, Romain Prevost, Kellan Lutz And His Berries

28 year old Daniel James Rick of Minneapolis, Minnesota has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and assault for knowingly transmit HIV to at least two men, one of whom he allegedly date-raped while the man was intoxicated. Rick, whom police label a sexual predator, used social networking sites like Facebook and Manhunt to meet men, as well as local bars and clubs. He also went by the name D.J. Smith. A second man, Robert O’Riley, has come forward, saying he and his boyfriend met Rick, and weeks after an encounter, O’Riley tested positive for HIV. His boyfriend tested negative. Rick has also been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor for an incident involving a 15 year old boy he reportedly met on Facebook. Police believe there are likely more victims yet to come forward.

Daniel Radcliffe has completed filming a public service announcement for the Trevor Project; the Los Angeles based American organization that offers support for at risk gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth, particularly those considering suicide. The 20 year old Radcliffe, seen below in New York Friday, visiting the Trevor Project’s east coast call center, said he participated in the PSA partly because “I grew up knowing a lot of gay men and it was never something that I ever thought twice about – that some men were gay and some weren’t. And then I went to school and (for) the first time ... I came across homophobia. I had never encountered it before. It shocked me. I have always hated anybody who is not tolerant of gay men or lesbians or bisexuals.”

Brian Burke Carries On Son Brendan’s Work, Penn State Courts Gay Students, Citibank And A Record Of Arbitrary Censorship

A great story from Sports Illustrated, a profile of Brian Burke, the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and of the United States men’s Olympic hockey team, that explores the recent loss of his 21 year old son, Brendan, killed tragically in an automobile accident, mere months after coming out publically. When Brendan came out in November, his father was the model of unconditional love and of support, and now, with Brendan gone, Brian intends to assume the role created by his son and will act as advocate to eliminate the culture of homophobia in the world hockey and beyond the rink, and will march in the Toronto Pride Parade this year – likely as the Parade’s Marshall.

Inside Education reports that the University of Pennsylvania is reaching out to gay applicants and attempting to create an atmosphere of inclusion, and although there is no box to check indicating that the applicant is gay, Penn State, like Dartmouth, where a similar program is being initiated, is committed to acknowledging that gay and lesbian students account for a significant part of the campus population.

The Wall Street Journal reports that this week’s Citibank public relations disaster – freezing the account of Fabulis over “objectionable content” – is not the first time the financial institution opted to “decline accounts associated with content that the general public may potentially find inappropriate or offensive.” According to the Journal, www.sillyunderwear.com was deemed objectionable by whomever reviews sites for Citibank, and rather than fight the arbitrary decision, the owner simply shifted their account to another bank.

Remembering Henry Stuart Matis, Andrew Koening Body Found, Citibank Fabulis Public Relations Failure, James Parkes Marries Tom Downey, Brent Corrigan In Briefs Plays Twister, Guys with iPhones Fun, Taylor Lautner Photoshop Double Found, Kellan Lutz Wants You To Adopt Not Buy

Ten years ago, mid-morning, 32 year old Henry Stuart Matis, a gay man and a devout Mormon, walked up the steps of a Mormon church in Los Altos, California, with a note that read “do not resuscitate” and calmly shot himself. In a suicide note, Matis explained that he had struggled to reconcile the two – his faith and sexual orientation – and that for “the first time in over 20 years, I am free of my pains. As I believed that I was a Christian, I believed that I could never be gay. Perhaps my death ... might become the catalyst for much good ... Your actions might help to save many young people’s lives.” Thursday morning, a memorial was held marking the ten year anniversary of the tragedy, a solemn reminder that much more love and understanding is needed to stop men and women like Henry from being lost.

Truly sad news: the body of 41 year old Andrew Koening was found Thursday in Stanley Park, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He took his own life. His father, actor Walter Koening, said his son, who appeared as Boner on Growing Pains, stopped medication for depression a year ago, and that unbeknownst to him and Judy, Andrew’s mother, Koening had sold or given away all of his possessions. Mr. and Mrs. Koening said they received a letter a week ago from Andrew, written in a “despondent tone.” Andrew, according to his father, was an activist, arrested in 2008 in Los Angeles for protesting the United States’ involvement in the Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

Late Wednesday evening, word that on Monday Citibank had blocked the account of Fabulis, the soon to be started online hybrid of Facebook and Yelp, because a review of their blog found “objectionable content” – code for gaiety – that was “not in compliance with Citibank’s standard policies.” No one from Citibank notified anyone from Fabulis the account was being held, and there was lengthy discussion – via email and phone – between the two parties and as of late Thursday Citibank representative Bill Brown offered an apology, adding that “Citi is committed to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. In fact, this week Citi has announced the financing for the True Colors Residence, a housing facility for homeless GLBT youth in New York City.”

A report Thursday that James Parkes, the 22 year old Liverpool police officer badly beaten in a homophobic attack while he was off duty, has married his boyfriend Tom Downey. James Downey-Parkes says he and Tom had a civil partnership ceremony February 6th in Liverpool attending by 250 guests. James and Tom, who works in healthcare, were in attendance Wednesday evening at a reception held at 10 Downing Street, the prime minister of England honouring LGBT individuals who have made a contribution to Britain.

Argentina Second Same Sex Marriage, Harold Ford Receives Less Than Hospitable Reception From Those He Wronged, Fight Back New York New Gay Political Action Committee, Maryland AG Fights For Gay Rights, Alexander McQueen Funeral, Terry Richardson And Jersey Shore

On Tuesday, Judge Elena Liberatori approved the marriage of two men in Buenos Aires in what will be Argentina’s second same sex marriage. In December, despite repeated opposition from authorities, Alex Freyre and Jose Maria Bello married in the provincial capital of Ushuaia.

Democrat New York Senate hopeful Harold Ford Jr. spoke Wednesday night in Manhattan, a stop on his “listening tour,” at the Stonewall Democratic Club in the West Village, and the crowd was less welcoming. Ford, there to explain why, when a Tennessee congressman, he voted for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, is now on record as being in favour of legalizing same sex marriage. Ford has yet to formally announce his candidacy, this tour meant to inform that decision.

A report on the formation of a new political action committee based in New York State, that intends to single out senators who voted against a bill that would have legalizing same sex marriage, or who on record opposing gay rights. Fight Back New York, a well funded, well represented organization has marked disgraced Democrat Hiram Monserrate for its first target. Monserrate, a convicted criminal, was expelled from the Senate, but has filed as a candidate in a special election being held to fill his seat.

On Wednesday, Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler, a Democrat, issued an opinion that the state will recognize same sex marriage performed elsewhere, and that all of its agencies should begin affording same sex married couples that same benefits and rights as opposite sex married couples immediately. The fifty page opinion, written over nine months, argues that “the starting principle in state law is that a marriage that is valid in the place of celebration remains valid in Maryland.”

Miss Beverly Hills Labelled Fraud By City Of Beverly Hills, Gay Conversion Therapy Complaint, Johnny Weir Make Beauty Out Of Ugly, Golden State Warriors Host LGBT Night, Alexander Skarsgard For The Last Magazine

A report that Lauren Ashley, the purported Miss California USA contestant who claimed she was Miss Beverly Hills and whose violent opposition to gay marriage and to gays in general, is a fraud, according to the city of Beverly Hills. In a statement released late Wednesday, the city said it “does not sponsor a beauty pageant and has no association with Miss California USA” and “as such, there should be no individual claiming the title of Miss Beverly Hills. In addition, the statement, authored by Mayor Nancy Krasne, said that “we are dismayed by potential association with the city of Beverly Hills, which has a long history of tolerance and respect.”

Paul Miller, a psychiatrist and a former advisor to anti-gay adulterer Iris Robinson, who claimed he could convert homosexuals to heterosexuality, has been reported to the General Medical Council. The complaint was filed by Patrick Strudwick, the openly gay journalist whose investigative report on conversion therapy in the United Kingdom exposed a network of accredited psychiatrists claiming to cure gay men and women of their sexual orientation. Strudwick, posing as a patient, saw Miller, who suggested Strudwick was gay because he was “wounded as a child,” and, according to Strudwick, violated numerous codes of conduct. The Royal College of Psychiatrists said it does not regard homosexuality as a psychiatric disorder and that individuals have “the right to protection from therapies that are potentially damaging.”

Johnny Weir, a model of decorum and self-esteem, despite continue to evade questions regarding his sexuality, said Wednesday that he wants the two broadcasters working for RDS – the French language version of TSN, Canada’s version of ESPN – to understand that their words, hateful and homophobic, hold real meaning and their impact far reaching. Weir, speaking at a press conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, said that he found the comments made last week about Weir “offensive,” but said he did not want nor need an apology. “I want them to think before they speak. I want them to think about not only the person they ‘re talking about, but also other people like that person,” Weir said, adding that “what people as a majority need to do is think, and think about who they’re affecting ... I don’t want, 50 years from now, more boys and girls to go through this same thing.” Weir said he hoped some good could come of the statements, the subject of a formal complaint to the Canadian Broadcasting Standard Council, saying “I hope more kids can grow up like I did and more kids can feel the freedom to express themselves. Out of ugly, I think the most important thing in life is to make something beautiful.”

The Golden State Warriors, perhaps to atone for the sins of Tim Hardaway, are hosting their first official Gay and Lesbian night at the Oracle Arena on March 11th, for a game that sees the Warriors hosting the Portland Trailblazers. Those in attendance are also to participate in an open gym at the Arena earlier in the day, when they are able to play basketball on a NBA court, that event sponsored by the Rockdogs, a gay basketball team from San Francisco. There will also be a special tailgating event, and a commemorative tee shirt. This is third time a NBA team has hosted a LGBT night: the Philadelphia 76ers hosted the first in 2004, and the Toronto Raptors hosted one in 2007.

NCAA Ends Online Partnership With Focus On The Family, Clay Aiken To Talk About Gay Rights For First Time, Federal Hate Crime Charges In Connection To Chicago Bashing, Bruce Weber Presents Lady Cops. Marlon Teixeira, Taylor Lautner Likes Meat, James Franco’s Feast Of Steven Clip

An update to a post from Tuesday: the NCAA removed advertisements from Focus on the Family that had been running on its Championships Web site, a site, incidentally managed by CBS College Sports, after an outpouring of criticism, arguing rightly that Focus on the Family’s message of anti-abortion and anti-gay contradicted the policy of non-discrimination practiced by the NCAA. According to several different reports, when the faux-Christian organization was sold spots to air during the Super Bowl by CBS, that purchase afforded Focus on the Family access to the other network run sites, like the NCAA, with the promise of access to other CBS sporting events like the men’s final basketball tournament. It remains unclear if Focus on the Family intends to run commercials during the Final Four tournament or if they were sold time, and that time was now rescinded under pressure.

An update to a post from January: this Saturday, Clay Aiken will address a Human Rights Campaign gala in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, and will do something he has never done before – address the issue of gay rights. Aiken, a single father, whose son Parker is three, came out post-American Idol in 2008, but has been reticent to discuss his sexuality beyond announcing it. Saturday, he will deliver a keynote address on equal rights for gays, including inheritance rights, access to hospital visitations, and perhaps most importantly, marriage. Aiken says his speech will be hopeful in tone and that although at this point he is apt to take a measured approach to issues surrounding the attainment of equality, “that sure as hell doesn’t mean I won’t be loud one day.”

An update to another post from January: the charges brought against three Chicago area men who viciously attacked an openly gay man who came to aid of a gay youth on January 10th on an area subway have been upgraded to felony hate crimes. Daniel Hauff was allegedly attacked by the three – Sean Little, Benjamin Eder, and Kevin McAndrew – after he intervened to help a gay youth the trio had allegedly been harassing both verbally and physically. The group of men then allegedly assaulted Hauff, repeatedly calling him a “stupid faggot.” The misdemeanour battery charges against the three were dropped Tuesday, and they were all re-arrested and charged with hate crimes.

Health Canada Approves Gardasil For Use In Males Nine To Twenty-Six, Generals Express Serious Concerns About Repeal Military Ban On Serving Openly, Miss Beverly Hills Opposes Gay Marriage And Believes Gays Will Be Put To Death

Merck announced Tuesday that Health Canada has approved the use of Gardasil to prevent genital warts caused by HPV infection on boys and men aged nine to twenty-six. Human papillomavirus is the most commonly sexually transmitted infection, and can cause anal cancer in men. Health Canada previously approved the drug for females aged nine to twenty-six in order to prevent genital warts and cervical cancer. Health Canada has yet to formally announce the preventive measure.

Two top United States generals, addressing a Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday, expressed “serious concerns” about repealing the military ban on gays serving openly. General George W. Casey Jr., the Army chief of staff, and General Norton A. Schwartz, the Air Force chief of staff, speaking separately, communicated a reluctance towards reversing the policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” at time when armed service members are engaged in two wars, and when, according to the two, little research exists on how the policy change would affect Air Force personal deployed for service around the world.

Miss Beverly Hills 2010, one Lauren Ashley, tells Fox News that she is opposed to same sex marriage, and quoting the often quoted passage from Leviticus, warns that gays will be put to death. The 23 year old says “the Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says ‘if man lies with mankind was he would lie with woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’ The Bible is pretty black and white.”

Malawi Magistrate Denies Review Tiwonge Chimbalanga And Steven Monjeza Face Sentencing March 22nd, Homophobic Quebec Broadcasters Face Censure, NCAA Partners With Focus On The Family, Spencer Tunick Has No Clothes, Mystery Male Model, Arthur Sales A Hero, Ryan Phillippe Hot Daddy, Kellan Lutz Loves A Deal

The chief justice of Malawi Monday rejected a request made by attorneys representing the two gay men on trail for unnatural acts and gross public indecency for a constitutional court to review their case. Now, apparently having exhausted any and all appeals, the two will face sentencing March 22nd. Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza were arrested in December after becoming engaged and planning a traditional marriage ceremony. They have repeated been denied bail and have remained in custody since their arrest.

The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council filed a formal complaint Monday with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council over homophobic comments made by two French language broadcasters regarding the sexual orientation of Johnny Weir. As previously posted, the two RDS commentators suggested Weir hurt the image of figure skating and that he should undergo a gender identity test. The two later apologized on-air.

There are reports that the NCAA and Focus on the Family have partnered, and that CBS, the network that exclusively airs the NCAA men’s basketball tournament helped broker the pairing. In addition to being anti-choice, Focus on the Family is vigorously anti-gay, functioning as a political action committee masquerading as a Christian organization that works to frustrate the progress of gay equality. According to reports, CBS has again sold air time during the highly rated tournamnet of 64 to Focus on the Family to run the series of Tim Tebow and mother advertisements that, while appearing ambiguous, are anti-abortion.

The Heroic Hudson Taylor, Elvis Stojko Says Figure Skating Needs To Be Harder Like Him Less Soft Like Johnny Weir, Meet Cristiano Ronaldo’s Abs, Jon Hamm And Hayden Christensen Watch Team USA Beat Team Canada

If you know me – and why would you not – you know I have favoured the Big Ten Network, which offers great coverage of all things athletic and Big Ten. Tremendous basketball, great hockey, and my new favourite sport – college wrestling. Although I am still attempting to understand the point system, it is enjoyable to watch, mostly because of the physical prowess of the wrestlers, and the intellectual agility that is required to perform at a high level of competition. And, I’ll admit, the men are obviously a pleasure to watch. In particular Hudson Taylor, University of Maryland undergraduate, a 23 year old ranked 3rd in the nation in his 197-pound weight class, with a record this year to date of 36-2, and an academic All-American, who happens to be one of the best straight allies gays could have. Hudson, engaged to be married to Lia Alexandra Mandagilo, is an outspoken advocate for gay rights – who took to wearing a Human Rights Campaign sticker on his headgear during some of his matches this season. Taylor seems too good to be true, working hard to generate a conversation about the cultural of homophobia in sport, made more difficult because of the obvious homo-erotic overturns of wrestling, and the need for athletes to reaffirm their heterosexuality, often at the expense of degrading gays, employing the famous “fag” as the go to insult. But nothing seems to deter Hudson, championing gay rights at every opportunity, discussing LGBT issues often, despite the awkwardness of the audience. He intends to pursue a law degree, followed by a career in politics, and well, if seems like I am gushing, I am. And so should you.

The antithesis of Hudson Taylor, is former figure skating champion Canadian Elvis Stojko, who is leading Skate Canada’s efforts to make more masculine the sport, and who believes the sport needs to attract an audience more heterosexual, more NASCAR, and less Johnny Weir. Stojko says that ‘people in the gay community have to realize they’ve got to take themselves out of it. It’s not against anybody, I’ve been getting heat for this, but there are people behind saying that they appreciate it. It’s about what people can identify with when they’re watching the sport. It doesn’t have to anything to with gayness. Effeminate men can identify with effeminate skating. Masculine men can’t identify with that. When I watch it, I can’t identify because I don’t move like that. My consciousness doesn’t fell like that.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, post Real Madrid match, meets members of the Formula 1 and offers exhibit A, evidence that the smoking sexy Ronaldo and his abs do not require any or all retouching.

New York Jury Finds Officer Accused Of Police Brutality Not Guilty, Senator Joe Lieberman To Sponsor Bill Repealing American Military Ban On Gays Openly, Study Finds Speedy Implementation Of Gay Military Policy Does Not Prove Disruptive, Louisiana To Appeal Gay Adoption Ruling, California Assemblywoman Proposes Bill To Remove Mandate To Find Cure For Homosexuality

All three New York City police officers have been acquitted of all counts late Monday morning in the trail of Officer Richard Kern, accused of police brutality by Michael Mineo. The alleged attack took place on a platform of a Brooklyn subway platform, Kern apparently having sodomized Mineo with a baton while two other officers looked on, who witnesses said during the trial taunted Mineo. The jury took one day to reach a verdict.

According to reports, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman will introduce a bill next week to repeal the American military ban on gays serving openly. Lieberman, an independent as well as a critical member of the senate armed services committee, will act as the bill’s sponsor, but many fear that the senator’s history of erratic political decisions coupled with fact that Lieberman has made numerous enemies on both the left and the right, will undermine any chance the bill has to succeed. Lieberman says his commitment to repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell” is twofold. Allowing gays to serve openly dovetails with the American promise of providing all with “an equal opportunity to do whatever job their talents and sense of purpose and motivations lead them to want to do, including military service,” and, according to the senator,” When you artificially limit the pool of people who can enlist then you are diminishing military effectiveness.”

An exhaustive study to be released Tuesday found foreign militaries that have transitioned to allow openly gay service members concludes that a quick implementation is not disruptive, directly contradicting arguments made by top Pentagon officials that a repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” would take upwards of two years to complete.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is almost certain to appeal a federal appeals court order last week requiring that the state issue an amended birth certificate that lists the names of two men who adopted a child born in Shreveport, Louisiana through a New York state court. The appeal is of interest as it will act as another test for the state by state implementation of gay rights, and whether one state’s law trumps another.

California Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal, a Democrat from Long Beach, introduced a bill that would edit a section from the state’s Welfare and Institutions Code that mandates finding a “cure” for homosexuality. The section, which became law in 1967, requires the Department of Mental Health to “plan, conduct and cause to be conducted scientific research into the causes and cures of sexual deviation, including deviations conducive to sex crimes against children, and the causes and cures of homosexuality, and into methods of indentifying potential sex offenders.” Lowenthal said “the fact this language has survived this long is pretty amazing. We need to blot it out and make it clear we’re moving forward as a society, not backward.”

General David Petraeus On DADT, DADT Debated In Washington, An Antidote As To Why The Ban Should Be Lifted, Elton John Explains Jesus Was Gay Remark, Christian & Olli Americanized, The Hurt Locker Wins Huge At Baftas, Dave Franco And Hunter Parrish Are Next, Arthur Sales Sporty, Zachary Walks Noah

United States General David Petraeus, appearing Sunday morning on NBC’s Meet The Press, when asked about plans to repeal the military ban on gays serving openly said “I served, in fact, in combat with individuals who were gay and who were lesbian in combat situations, Frankly, you know, over time your said hey how’s this guy shooting or how is her analysis or what have?” Despite evading host David Gregory’s question for a personal response on lifting the policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” from the General, Petraeus did say that “there is a process at work here now, David. I think it is a very sound and good process.”

The General’s appearance arrives at a time when reports that lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are expected to hear interrogate top military officials to try and determine whether repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell” would alleviate a fundamental problem in the military or would prove disruptive.

A report offering a reminder that the sexual orientation of a service member matters little if at all to his or her fellow service members.

Elton John clarifies his statements that Jesus was gay.

A gay storyline from the German drama Verboten Liebe (Forbidden Love) is being adapted for North American television, according to reports. Christian & Olli, about a gay couple living in Dusseldorf, is being adapted by Sam Martin, a former executive at HBO, and will be set in Portland, Oregon. Casting for the critical roles has yet to be announced.

The Hurt Locker, thankfully, won big at the Baftas Sunday, in London, England, winning a total of six awards, including best picture, best director, and best original screenplay. The dismal and dumb Avatar won only two awards – best special effects and best production design. Colin Firth deservedly won best actor for his work in A Single Man, and Carey Mulligan won best actress for her work in An Education. Mo’Nique won best supporting actress for her turn in Precious and Christoph Waltz won supporting actor for his turn in Inglorious Basterds.

Canadian Gay Rights Group To File Complaint Over Announcers Homophobic Johnny Weir On-Air Banter, Australian Announcer Makes Awkward Amends With Johnny Weir, New Opposition To Delhi India’s De-Criminalization Of Homosexuality, Christian Group Attacks Gareth Thomas For Promoting Sodomy, Irish Homosexuality Cure Conference Protested, Closeted Charlie Crist Continues To Punish Gays, Complaint Filed Against California Police Department For Harassment Of Gay Officers

A Quebec based gay rights group intends to file a formal complaint Monday with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council over comments made by two veteran announcers – Alain Goldberg and Claude Mailhot - on the French-language sports channel RDS. During a performance by American figure skater Johnny Weir, who was wearing a sheer black and pink outfit of Weir’s own design, Mailhot said “this may not be politically correct, but do you think he lost points due to his costume and his body language?” Goldberg answered that Weir’s effeminate style reflects badly on other male figure skates and is detrimental to the sport. “They thing all the boys who skate will end up like him,” Goldberg replied,” It sets a bad example.” At one point, the two brought up South African runner Caster Semenya, the subject of gender speculation, Goldberg suggesting “we should make him (Weir) pass a gender test at this point” to which Mailhot joked Weir should compete on the woman’s side. The duo later offered an on-air apology.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Channel Nine announcer Eddie McGuire, who made grotesque homophobic comments regarding Johnny Weir, attempted to make amends, interviewing Weir, and extending an invitation to stay with McGuire in Australia and aid in the renovation of his guest room, encouraging Weir to paint it a “happy yellow.” Weir was surprisingly non-confrontational, suggesting that “for me, I take everything as a game. I am very laid-back as far as that goes, I like to pole fun at people, there’s no harm with that. It’s all in good fun.”

A historic ruling in July, 2009, that decriminalised gay sex between consenting adults in the capital city of India, appears to be facing another round of opposition, religious leaders prepared to pressure the courts to reverse the decision. The verdict in July by the Deli High Court was non-binding outside the capital, but anti-gay opponents fear that courts throughout the country will follow Deli’s lead, and they are appealing to the Supreme Court. Homosexuality has been illegal in India since 1860, a statute introduced by colonial Britain banning “carnal intercourse against the order of nature.”

Christian Voice, an evangelical extremist group based in Carmarthenshire, has aggressively attacked Gareth Thomas, the openly gay Welsh rugby icon, calling him “wicked” and accusing him of “promoting sodomy to children.” Thomas was named the patron of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month – February- and Christian Voice director Stephen Green said “pro-sodomy teaching in secondary school can easily turn an adolescent phase of same-sex attraction, which many girls and boys go through, into a fixed orientation. Gareth Thomas is urging such children to identify themselves as homosexual, and to inhibit their normal development in heterosexuality.” Green also argued that Thomas could be cured of his homosexual attraction. Thomas responded, saying “I appreciate not everyone will have the same viewpoint as me and I have no problem with that.”

A three day Christian conference in Ballynahinch, Ireland, that claims to offer a cure for homosexuality is expected to draw peacful protests. The weekend conference, sponsored by CORE Issues, a Northern Ireland based organization that “supports men and women with homosexual issues who voluntarily seek change in sexual preference and expression.” The conference is organized around the work of Reverend Mario Bergner, who is the headline speaker, and who claims that that his faith cured both his sexuality and his HIV infection. Stop Conversion Therapy Taskforce plans to protest peacefully.

Self-hating, closeted Charlie Crist, Florida’s governor, continues to deny gay couple the right to adopt, employing the Department of Children and Family Services to fight recent rulings in the state that found Florida’s gay adoption ban unconstitutional.

A lawsuit filed Thursday in Roseville, California alleged that the Department of Police cultivated a hostile work climate, targeting gay officers and those perceived to be gay. Two current officers and one former officer filed the civil rights lawsuit that seeks unspecified financial damages from the city and the department. The filing contends that the Police Chief Mike Blair failed to stop harassment, and in most instances retaliated against those who reported harassment claims.

New Details Emerge On Sadomasochistic Murder Of Robert Wone, Ann Coulter Failure, A.J. Kessler And Anthony Vonbargen Are A Perfect Day, Sydney Gay Amateur Underwear Competition, Two Ways Of Seeing Ryan Betroche, Tina Fey And Justin Bieber On April SNL, Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka Post-Coital Night Out

In 2006, Robert Wone, a 32 year old Washington, D.C. based attorney was killed, allegedly by three men – Joseph Price, his husband Victor Zaborsky, and his lover Dylan Ward. Wone’s body was found in Price’s D.C. townhouse, stabbed multiple times, and prosecutors contend that three men lured Wone there, drugged him, and engaged in sadomasochistic play that went out of bounds. The men insist that an intruder broke in, and stabbed Wone. To date, the three have been charged with conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and tampering with evidence, but not murder charges. This past week, in anticipation of the trial set to begin in May, federal prosecutors filed new details, and they are, graphically disturbing, and stranger than fiction.

Ann Coulter – invited to speak at the University of Calgary, accompanied by anti-gay, racist, and self-hating Jew Ezra Levant – continues to work without new material, appearing at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. Saturday – a kind of festival for ignorance and intolerance – and told the same hackneyed jokes that everyone on the left is either gay or a nymphomaniac or both.

The sixth in a series of investigative reports from the frontlines of Uganda and the declared war on gays, details on a human rights forum held Friday in the capital city of Kampala – Human Rights and Sexual Orientation – which, according to the author, underlined how sickening regressive the thinking is regarding homosexuality. Member of Parliament Otto Odonga, who said “human rights are not sacrosanct,” and that homosexuality was an unwelcomed “deviant behaviour,” said he would kill his own son should his son be gay.

Another report on the collateral damage done in Malawi by the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, a measure understood by gay Malawians as a letter of intent that all homosexuals be exterminated.

Anti-gay reggae performer Capleton has been removed from the line up of the Ragga Muffins Festival of California, which opens Saturday night in Oakland. The Jamaican Capleton has recorded a number of songs that strongly urge gays and lesbians be killed.

Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church continues their tour of hate throughout the southland of California, but the anti-gay, anti-Semitic troupe of ignorance and intolerance was greeting with a counter-protest of love and understanding in Long Beach, California on Friday. Over one thousand students from Wilson High were there to greet the seven person WBC contingent, waving rainbow flags and carrying signs that read Rock Hates Scissors, mocking the travelling troupe of haters, who quite quickly left escorted by the police.

Is the Whistler Pride House at the Vancouver Winter Olympics a safe space for gay and lesbian athletes or simply an indication of Canada’s progressive climate?

American bronze medalist Scotty Lago “volunteered” to leave Vancouver Friday as quickly as he came, that after these two photos of halfpipe star surfaced, a female fan feigning fellatio while Lago offers a viewing of his abs and underwear.

GOProud But NOM No Like, Adam Lambert Fulfills Promise To Underprivileged Public School, Fresno City College Denies He Is Anti-Gay Pro-Creation, Natural Pouch Package Party, Arthur Sales

GOProud – a hybrid of Log Cabin Republicans – attended this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference as a sponsor and the gay Republican coalition, which intends to promote and pursue legislation critical to gays from within the party, and while some in attendence were supportive, most were less than welcoming, particularly fellow sponsors the National Organization for Marriage, who take issue with gays “trying to redefine marriage for the rest of us.”

Adam Lambert surprised a select group of middle school music students Thursday, fulfilling a lot of dreams, including his own. The class at 45 Belvedere Middle School in Los Angeles was chosen by Lambert – and his fans – who all donated a total of 300,000 to be donated to a school selected because of its high need. 94-percent of Belvedere students qualify for free or reduced rate lunches, and at time when art programs in the American public school system are often first to have their budgets cut, Lambert wanted to give back, helping to fund art, drama, and music classes, and encouraging at risk students to focus and follow their dreams. Lambert took questions from the students and teacher, as well as performed two songs with the students, including the Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want.

Fresno City College health sciences instructor Brad Lopez denies he teaches that homosexuality is a disease, a mental illness, and that he uses the Bible as a basis for teaching science. The American Civil Liberties Union filed a complaint of behalf of students, alarmed and angered that Lopez was allegedly arguing that homosexuals were degrading to society and were ruining the world.

Gay Couple Wins Louisiana Birth Certificate Suit, Anti-Gay Men’s Figure Skating Comments Draws Complaints, Johnny Weir To Retire, Gay Men To Kiss Bicycle Winners, Tiger Woods Is Really Angry And Sort Of Sorry

Thursday, the 5th United States Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled that a gay couple in San Diego must be issued a birth certificate for their adopted son, born in Shreveport, Louisiana, that includes the names of both fathers. Oren Adar and Mickey Ray Smith, married in Connecticut, adopted their son in April, 2006, a year after his birth, and sued the state in 2007 after a state register refused to release a birth certificate as requested. Although Louisiana does not recognize same sex marriage, and by extension, would not have permitted the couple to adopt, the court ruled that register was violating the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the constitution by failing to honour the adoption.

Gay rights activists in Australia are demanding that a network’s Olympic commentators be terminated after Eddie McGuire and Mick Molloy made comments meant to be comic about men's figure skating, but which were homophobic. While discussing the men’s costumes, Molly said “they don’t leave anything in the locker room, these blokes, do they?” McGuire responded, saying “they don’t leave anything in the closet either.” Later, there was a tired Brokeback Mountain reference among the homophobic banter. Gary Burns has filed a complaint with the New South Wales Anti-Discrimination Board, and has called on Channel Nine to fire the two. “I have lodged a complaint,” said Burns,” because I believe the comments are capable of inciting ridicule, contempt or hate against homosexual Australians. These two men were not out in the backyard having a barbeque with their mates, they’re on national television. They’ve got responsibilities to the broadcaster and to the NSW anti-discrimination act.”

According to reports, American figure skater Johnny Weir, who deserved to medal, and instead finished sixth, is likely to retire after competing at the World Championships in Torino in late March. Weir, who is only 25, is likely to follow a career in fashion rather than aim to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

Amsterdam’s Green Left party is proposing that gay men replace straight women who traditionally kiss the winner of the first leg of the Giro d’Italia, one of Europe’s more prestigious bicycle races. Saying that one in every ten rider is gay, Fjodor Molenaar, an alderman with the Green Left party, stated :it should be possible for gay men to celebrate with the winner.”

Tiger Woods Makes First Statement Since Crash

Is Tiger Woods really, really, really angry because he hasn’t has sex for 45 days or because he was caught cheating having so much sex? The 13 minute press conference that was not really a press conference was one of the most awkward, bizarre spectacles ever, made more so because Woods seemed less contrite and self-righteous, and that isn’t how anyone apologizes. Moreover, why say sorry? I care not, and I doubt anyone else does. The irony of someone who pleads for privacy and then makes public the road to recovery is apparently lost on Tiger and his handlers. Toward the end, Tiger turned towards to camera and said “there are many people in this room and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today i want to ask for your help. I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again.” Really, people believed in him?

Kenyan Police Release Gay Marriage Suspects And Urge Them To Flee, Malawi Prosecutors Rest Case Against Two Gay Men, Sydney Mardi Gras, IKEA Pays To Be Gay, Vancouver Olympic Homophobia, Michael Phelps Gets Under Amour, Mike Manning Is Bisexual And Suggest You Deal, Chris Pine Comfortable In Slippers And Sweats

There are reports that the five gay men arrested by Kenyan authorities for purportedly planning a gay wedding have been released, the police conceding that there was an abject lack of evidence to convict the men of any wrongdoing. The men, however, have been advised to flee for their own safety. Another man, accused of being gay, and arrested this past Saturday, was also released.

In Malawi, prosecutors rested their case against two gay men –Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza – charged with unnatural acts and gross public indecency after the two planned a traditional marriage ceremony. They have been in police custody since their arrest December 26th, repeatedly denied bail, allegedly for their own well being. The defence has until March 4th to argue as to why the charges should be dropped. If that argument is rejected by the courts, the two will face sentencing March 22nd.

The flags have been raised in Sydney, Australia, and the 33rd Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras week is in full swing. This year’s parade, held on Saturday, February 27th, will feature Amanda Lepore as Marshall, the first time in the parade’s history that a transsexual will hold the honour.

There is a report that during the 2008 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade, IKEA paid actors to pretend to be gay and lesbian and appear on their Swedish company’s float. The revelation has angered gay activists who suggest it is another indication that gay pride festivities has lost any meaningful connection to the community and are instead massive marketing ceremonies.

Tyler Sheppard, a 25 year old gay Vancouver resident, reports that on February 8th during a rehearsal for the Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony, he was subjected to a twenty minute homophobic tirade by as yet to be identified woman. Sheppard says the woman, wrongfully accusing him of sitting in her seat, called him a “fucking faggot” first, and then continued an assault of insults and intimidation. Sheppard added that neither the Vancouver Olympic Committee, the security, ushers, nor the police have done anything to help.

Some in the audience appeared rightly confused; others, sadly, lapped it up. He’s here all week folks! Try the veal!

Calls To Arrest Pretend Pastor Martin Ssempa For Promoting Porn, British Press Complaints Commission Dismisses Jan Moir Case, Elton John Suggest Jesus A Super Smart Gay Man Who Loved And Forgave, David Beckham Plays, Searching For Arthur Sales, Thiago Vieira

Ugandan activists are calling for the arrest of pretend pastor Martin Ssempa, whose predilection for gay porn raises a lot more questions than answers. Julian Pepe, head of the gay advocacy group Sexual Minorities Uganda, said Ssempa “should be arrested because he is promoting pornography” after Ssempa screened more gay porn to an audience that included minors in another misguided attempt to cultivate support for the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009.

The British Press Complaints Commission is under fire, after it dismissed a complaint filed by Andrew Cowles against Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir, and her hateful, hurtful column on Cowles’s husband Stephen Gately, the Boyzone singer, the day after he was buried last October. Moir wrote that his death was “another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships,” a statement for which she soon apologized, but only after an international backlash. The PCC ruled that Moir’s anti-gay sentiments “just failed to cross the line” of violating its code of practice. Ben Summerskill, the chief executive of Stonewall, the English gay rights advocacy group, said it is now “very difficult to recommend” that any minority complain to PCC given the self-regulating agencies reluctance to act and enforce policy.

Elton John, in an interview with Parade magazine, suggests that “Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. New Hampshire Legislators Reject Two Anti-Gay Marriage Proposals, Judge Who Ruled Gays Rightfully Able To Adopt Dies, Catholic Church Severs Foster Care Program Over Gay Marriage, Best In Show, Canadian Male Olympic Athletes Objectified, Baptiste Giabiconi, Bi-Costal Matt Bomer, Beach Bums, Guys With iPhones Fun

The New Hampshire House has rejected two anti-gay marriage proposals, the first an amendment to the state constitution that would define marriage as that only existing between a man and woman, the second, a bill repealing the state’s same sex marriage law that is shy of being two months old. The two votes were overwhelming a majority – the House bill final tally was 210-109 against and the constitutional amendment tally was 201-135. Prior to the vote being taken, Representative Robert Thompson, a Democrat from Manchester, who is openly gay, and who married his partner on January 2nd, asked rhetorically, “how has my marriage impacted upon your marriage or how has it diminished the value of your marriage?” Republican Representative John Cebrowski, of Bedford, said “the vast majority of adults out there know marriage is between man and woman. To engage in the flight of imagination ... with adults is downright cruel.”

Judge Sylvia Pressler, who, in 1975, opened Little League play to girls, and, in 1995, extended the legal rights of gays in America when she ruled that a woman could legally adopt her partner’s 3 year old son, has died. She was 75.

As threatened, the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has formally terminated its foster care program run in partnership with the district, citing the passage of gay marriage legislation passed in December, expected to take effect in March. The program was 80 years old, ended because the Catholic Church does not recognize gay marriage, and would therefore not recognize the right of married same sex couples seeking to adopt.

Martin Ssempa Screens More Gay Porn Adds Detailed Salacious Commentary, Uganda Poor March Unwittingly Against Gays, British Conservative Party Courts The Gays, Keene State College Students Protest American Ban On Gays Donating Blood, New York City Gets Gay Hotel, River Viiperi An Animal, Alvaro Casavechia Wild

The infamous Martin Ssempa, an alleged Ugandan pastor, held another public screening of gay porn Wednesday, in another misguided attempt, Ssempa says, to bolster support for the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009. As many as 300 gathered in a small church as Ssempa presented a slide show of gay pornography, the pastor upset after plans to stage a million-man march in the country’s capital city of Kampala were thwarted by police who considered the protest a potential security risk. In his introduction, Ssempa said “the major argument homosexuals have is that what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms is nobody’s business but do you know what they do in their bedrooms,” Ssempa asked before beginning the show, which included graphic, knowing commentary from the purported pastor. Ironically, if the law had been passed, Ssempa would have likely been arrested and jailed for leading a public discussion on homosexuality.

There was in fact a protest led Ssempa Monday, a smaller one, according to the fifth in a series of reports from the frontlines of the war in Uganda on gay men and women. Around 350 protested against gay rights in the tiny town of Jinja, where, according to the report, mostly the poor were being encouraged by pastors to rally against homosexuals and American President Obama.

The rebranding of the British Conservative Party continues to include a reinvented courting of gays. Openly gay Conservative Nick Herbert said that Party leader David Cameron “has taken the view that we need to broaden to appeal of the Conservative Party – that you can’t be a party that is seeking to appeal to the whole country unless you are properly representative of the whole country,” adding that “the position that we had been taking in the past towards gay people has been one that appeared to be hostile and that we were wrong.”

On Monday, Keene State College students protested the American ban on gay men donating blood, the policy enacted in 1983 prohibiting men who have had sex with men since 1977 from becoming donors. That policy, similar to the one in Canada, was authored at the height of AIDS hysteria and has since been shown to be an example of bad science. The students from the New Hampshire college’s Pride club gathered signatures on a petition to send to the Food and Drug Administration requesting a review of the “deference” of gay men from donating blood.

An estimated 20 million renovation will transform what is now the Travel Inn in Manhattan into the city’s first gay boutique hotel, which will feature a new nightclub. The plans will turn the 123 room hotel in Hell’s Kitchen into a luxury hotel, complete with cafe, a series of shops, and a spa. The Hotel will be named OUT NYC.

Iowa Faith Leaders Show Support For Same Sex Marriage, Supreme Court To Hear Referendum 71 Petition Disclosure Arguments April 28th, Rafael Nadal Stars In Shakira Video, Lady Gaga Captures Three Brits And Remembers Alexander McQueen

167 faith leaders in Iowa Tuesday took to the steps of the Statehouse to show their support for gay marriage and to admonish those who oppose same sex unions. The broad coalition said that unions based and formed on love “must be honoured.”

The United States Supreme Court will hear arguments April 28th regarding the release of the names of individuals who signed Referendum 71, the failed attempt to repeal Washington State’s newly approved gay rights law that expanded and strengthened the state’s domestic partnership rules. A law exists in the state require the public disclosure of those who sign referendums, but Protect Marriage Washington – the anti-gay marriage group who initiated R-71 – argued before a lower court that releasing the names would impact free speech as well as create a climate of harassment and intimidation.

Spanish sexiness Rafael Nadal is set to star in Shakira’s new Gypsy video, Nadal nearly nude.

Lady Gaga was the big winner at the Brits, Gaga took three Brits Tuesday evening – best international female solo artist, best international breakthrough act, and best international album for The Fame. Lily Allen was named best British solo act, while Dizzee Rascal was named best British male solo act. Florence and the Machine earned best British album for Lungs, while Kasabian earned best British band. Boy group JLS won breakthrough act. Jay-Z won best international male solo artist, and Robbie Williams was awarded the outstanding contribution to music, Williams having won 16 Brits, the most by any artist.

Lady Gaga performed a version of Telephone, which she dedicated to Alexander McQueen, then proceeded to rock a version of Dance in the Dark.

Ugandan Gays Hold Valentine’s Day Activism Meeting, African Anglican Bishops Condemn Gay Violence, Worldwide Scouting Urged To Oppose Anti-Homosexuality Bill Of 2009, Plans For Harvey Milk Day Celebrations, Texas Attorney General Intervenes In Gay Divorce

The fourth in a series of reports from the frontlines of Uganda, and that country’s campaign of anti-gay hysteria, a look a meeting held this past Sunday, Valentine’s Day, by an estimated one hundred gays and lesbians who wanted to discuss the pending passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009 that threatens their very lives. There were questions and calls for more action by those in attendance, the climate of anti-gay hate seeming to spur a culture of activism among Ugandan gay men and women.

Bishops from the Anglican Church in South Africa Monday released a statement condemning not only the proposed piece of legislation that is the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, but the trend of horrific political gay bashing. The bishops called upon Christians everywhere to stand and fight against the pending legislation, so that it does not gain passage in Uganda or anywhere else, and called on Ugandan politicians to “engage in dialogue with their counterparts on the rights of minorities.” The bishop’s statement reminded lawmakers that “all human beings are created in the image of God,” and are therefore to be treated with dignity and respect, adding that “we are therefore deeply concerned about the violent language used against the gay community across Sub-Saharan Africa. As bishops we believe that it is immoral to permit or support oppression of, or discrimination against, people on the grounds of their sexual orientation.”

The worldwide Scout Organization is involved in the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, the Bill’s sponsor David Bahati is the Chief of the Scout Board of Uganda. There are calls to remove Bahati from his position since his “stance and actions are incompatible with scouting values.”

This May marks the inaugural Harvey Milk Day, the day set aside in California to honour the slain gay civil rights leaders, and Stuart Milk, Harvey’s nephew, who in late 2009 created the Harvey B. Milk Foundation, has planned a number of celebrations that will extend well past May 22nd.

The Texas Attorney General, predictably, has intervened in the same sex divorce case in Texas, arguing that the couple in question cannot be granted dissolution of marriage in Texas since the state does not legally recognize same sex marriage. Greg Abbot said in petition filed Thursday that divorce is the wrong legal remedy, and that the couple, married in 2004 in Massachusetts, needs instead to have the marriage voided. The Attorney General‘s motion is meant to protect the state from any and all constitutional challenges to Texas’s gay marriage ban.

Malawi Contemptible Anti-Gay Arrests Continue, Gay Reparative Head Revealed Convicted Fraud Felon, Did Prince Williams Dye His Hair, Ryan Kwanten Wants You

Police in Malawi have arrested a 60 year old man and charged him with one count of sodomy, a part, authorities say, is a large scale anti-gay sweep. Police spokesperson Dave Chingwalu said a complaint had been made by a young man alleging that the accused asked him to address and then sodomized him. Chingwalu added that police investigations uncovered a network of high-profile homosexuals, “and we will arrest them all.”

A Truth Wins Out and South Florida Gay News investigation has revealed that one Arthur Abba Goldberg, the president of Positive Alternatives to Homosexuality and executive secretary of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality – both sexual reparative organizations with murky reputations – is also a convicted felon, in 1987 crafting a complicated bond scam that stole monies from poorer communities. The former Wall Street securities salesmen pled guilty in 1989 in a California and Illinois federal court to three counts of mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, but served 6.

George Smitherman And Christopher Peloso Announce Adoption, Brian Burke On Son Brendan, Rachel Maddow On Bias And Covering DADT, Iowa Democrats Demonize Gay Marriage, New Hampshire Votes Wednesday On Repealing Gay Marriage, Augusta Georgia To Get Gayer

Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman and his husband Christopher Peloso announced Sunday that they have been approved in principle by Toronto Children’s Aid Society to a adopt a child, a 14 month old boy. The process is likely to take up to another six months, and Smitherman, who is Vancouver at the Olympic Games with Peloso, said “Christopher and I are very proud to share the news. Despite our overwhelming joy at the prospect of being parents to a beautiful baby boy, we must ask for you complete cooperation in respecting our privacy and the important legal process that governs our potential adoption.”

Toronto Maples Leafs and United States Men’s Olympic team General Manager Brian Burke returned to work Friday, Burke the father of 21 year old Brendan who was killed in an automobile accident last Friday. At a press conference in Vancouver, Brian said he is coping, somewhat, saying “I cry less every day. It’s been ... it’s been tough.” When asked to describe the brave Brendan, who came out publically in November, 2009, Brian said “He was a courageous kid, a very gregarious kid, a very compassionate kid. He was very bright and cared a lot about people. The saddest part about it was that his future was so bright. The sky was the limit for this kid.”

The Washington Post’s media critic Howard Kurtz profiles the openly gay Rachel Maddow, who refutes the idea she is assuming the role of gay rights activist – employing her position as a member of the media, and her MSNBC show to drive the conservation regarding the efforts to repeal the American military ban on gays serving openly. Rachel does, however, concede an obvious fact: “I can’t do the show as a non-gay person,” says Maddow, “I don’t have that option.”

Despite being an exercise in futility – four Iowa Democratic Senator broke with party ranks and joined the Republicans, signing a petition to force a vote on same sex marriage. The amendment to the state constitution would alter a law passed in Iowa last year legalizing gay marriage by defining marriage as that only existing between a man and woman. However, the deadline for any bill to clear committee and being considered for vote this year passed last week. Iowans continually insist that gay marriage is a non-issue and that they would rather elected officials concentrate on more pressing matters, like the economy.

Wednesday, the New Hampshire House will vote on whether t o repeal the state’s barely six week old gay marriage law, as well as whether to amend the constitution to define marriage as that only existing between a man and a woman. It is unlikely either proposals.

Augusta, Georgia is getting gayer, an announcement that a Gay Pride festival, including a parade, has been planned, the event to occur for the first time since the 1990’s.
