Openly Gay British Youth Parliament Member Reace Mcdonnell Victim Of Vicious Homophobic Online Bullying Campaign, Labour Party Member Pleads Guilty To Harassing Openly Gay Colleague Via Homophobic Text Messages, Croatian Football Federation Re-Elects Homophobic Vlatko Markovic

The Plymouth Herald says that a member of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament has been suspended after images allegedly of the 19 year old appeared on a gay porn website. The pictures are purportedly of Reace Mcdonnell, on a page purported created by Mr. Mcdonnell. Mr. Mcdonnell was elected as deputy MYP in January, 2010, and was previously full MYP, but is not eligible to stand for election again since he has passed the upper age limit of 18. The Herald says the mother of a Plymouth teenager alerted the paper to the web page, the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, saying “I am concerned as a mother for my child. He has recently ‘come out’ as gay and has been following the out youth in Plymouth. Reace Mcdonnell, who leads this group and is an apparent role model for young teen in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, is on the internet. My son has spoken to me about this internet site and thinks that this is ‘cool.’” Andy Hamflett, the chief executive of the UK Youth Parliament, said of the suspension that “Our primary concern is for the safety of all the young people we work with and we are taking these allegations very seriously.” The Herald reports that they tried unsuccessfully to contact Reace, but that a close friend did tell the paper “It’s sad that people seem to be so interested in Reace’s private life when all the hard work he does representing young people in his public life should be more important. "He's quite open about being gay and has regularly stood up to be counted on the important issues affecting LGBT young people like homophobic bullying. It's ironic that in spite of, or perhaps because of, his hard work he now seems to be the victim of nasty and upsetting rumors himself." Mcdonnell did post a message on his Facebook page that reads “I would like to remind people NOT to believe everything you read in the papers. I think its really quite pathetic that you should intringe on my life like this, not only at this pivotal stage, but at all, considering im an adult. My statment is that the allegation is not based on fact and should be discredited and ignored by all who read it [sic].”

David Bradley, a 29 year old Labour Party parliamentary candidate, has been suspended by the party for sending homophobic messages to a gay colleague, the Bristol Post reporting that Bradley admitted sending 33 abusive text messages to 33 year old Ed Bramall referencing gays as “bum rapist” and “gay lord.” At Bristol Magistrates’ Court, Bradley pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment without violence by sending the text messages to Bramall’s phone between March and August of this year. Prosecutors requested a restraining order be enacted to prevent Bradley from contacting Bramall in any way. Bradley lost to Bramall for a seat in a general election, and the hate campaign began shortly thereafter.

The Associated Press is reporting that despite being investigated for an anti-gay insult made during an interview, Vlatko Markovic was re-elected for a fourth term as the president of the Croatian Football Federation on Friday. Markovic, whose dangerously and deranged comments including suggesting that he had never met a gay soccer player since “only healthy people play football,” has headed the CFF since 1998 and he defeated former international player Igor Stimac narrowly, 25-24. The Union of European Football initiated a case against Markovic over rules relating to discrimination and to the conduct of officials. The UEFA’s disciplinary panel met November 25th, but determined it required more time to consider a verdict against Markovic. The panel has the power to suspend him from all duties and responsibilities regarding soccer.
