Canadian Christian Charles McVety’s Television Show Removed From Air After Broadcast Standards Council Concludes That In Stating Gays “Prey” On Children He Violated Codes
The National Post reports that the Christian broadcasting network, Crossroads Television System has been found in violation of broadcasting codes because of statements made by Charles McVety, the right-wing religious lunatic (and close companion of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper), who implied that there was a “malevolent, insidious and conspiratorial purpose” to the activities of homosexuals, particularly that gays "prey" on children. The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, a self-regulating industry guardian, found that the Reverend McVety meant to mock gays in episodes of his program WordTV that aired between July, 2009 and February, 2010, when he commented on Toronto’s gay pride parade, calling it a “sex parade,” and on a revised Ontario sex curriculum for grade schools, saying McVety violated the Canadian Association of Broadcasters code of ethics, specifically the clause that calls for “full, fair and proper representation.” McVety’s comments regarding proposed changes to the provincial sex curriculum that would have presented homosexuality in a more positive light, were particularly hateful, and were in fact the reason for the censure by the CBSC, the Reverend saying on-air that we “send little Johnny and little Jane to school, not to learn to be homosexuals and lesbians. We send them there to learn reading, writing and arithmetic and history and all these wonderful things, but unfortunately there is an activist group that is afoot that wants to change our curriculum. Why? Because unfortunately they have an insatiable appetite for sex, especially with young people. And there are not enough of them, so they want to proselytize your children and mine, our grandchildren and turn them into homosexuals." Thursday, CTS informed McVety that his show would pulled from the network’s schedule, temporarily, and that it would only return to air after the network is assured that it is in complete compliance with the Canadian Broadcasters Standards Council’s guidelines. McVety said that his “good name has been impugned by this report.”
