Meanwhile, Monday, Lisa Howe released a statement confirming she and her partner are expecting a child this spring, although she would not say whether her sexual orientation led to her separation from the school, reports the Tennessean. Howe said in part ““I was a good student athlete recruiter, had an organized and professionally run program, and was one of Belmont's best employees. None of that changed when I acknowledged that I am a lesbian and that my partner and I are expecting a baby. I am proud of who I am and my family and our future, and I want every person — no matter what race, religion, nationality, or sexuality they represent — to feel the same way.”
A trial began Monday in New York City, 43 year old Melissa Stampf suing the Long Island Rail Road and a co-worker, Angela Trigg, who falsely accused her of sexual harassment, the Daily News reporting that in July, 2006, Stampf, who is openly gay, was arrested for forcible touching and was suspended from her position as a locomotive engineer, after allegedly touching Trigg’s breasts. At the time, the Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to prosecute.
A new study of more than 1,800 men from the United States and Peru concludes that the overall risk of contracting HIV over an eighteen month period did not significantly differ between those who were circumcised and those who were uncircumcised, Reuters reporting that “Over the study period, 5 percent of the 1,365 uncircumcised men became HIV-positive, as did 4 percent of the 457 circumcised men, according to findings published in the journal AIDS.”
