Jacob Harshbarger is recovering Monday evening after being attacked early Sunday morning in alley behind his San Diego home, KTLA reports, and the 32 year old believes that incident was a hate crime. Harshbarger says he had returned home from an evening out, and was taking his dogs for a walk. He says he was approached by at least three men and two women in a white car, and remembers hearing one of the men calling him a “faggot” as well as “homo” and “come over here and kick the fairy.” Harshbarger states that he was wearing a graphic tee shirt that made clear he is gay, saying “It was obvious, so when they saw the shirt, I am assuming that’s what provoked the whole entire thing. He was taken to hospital, treated for a concussion and an internally bruised eye. The suspects left behind a tennis shoe and a cell phone, and San Diego police continue to investigate.
People magazine reports that Ricky Martin tells Oprah Winfrey Tuesday that last March when he wrote “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man” he first felt “numb,” then “relieved,” and then “When I realized, okay, I just pressed send, whoo ... I was in my studio alone for a minute. My assistant walked in and I just started crying like a baby. I started crying.” Martin says his twin sons – Matteo and Valentino, now 2 years old – are the reason he decided to come out, Martin telling Oprah “I couldn’t take it anymore. It was too painful. But I guess the most important thing is my children ... When I was holding them in my arms I was like, ‘What, am I gonna teach them how to lie?’ Whoa, that is my blessing right there. Then, when I was holding my children I said, ‘Okay, it’s time to tell the world.’”
