On Transgender Day Of Remembrance New Study Reveals Sickening Struggles Facing The Transgender
A survey of more than 7,000 transgender people conducted by National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force reveals that 41-perent of transgender people in the United States have attempted to commit suicide, 19-percent report being refused medical care because of their gender non-confirming status, and 2-percent report being violently assaulted in a physician’s office, according to a report by MSNBC. Today, Saturday, November 20th, 2010 is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to memorialise those killed due to anti-transgender hatred. Justin Tanis, a spokesperson for the National Center for Transgender Equality, saying “It’s an opportunity to honour the people who lost their lives for really no other reason than that another human being acted out of hatred or fear and were so consumed by that they ended another person’s life. It’s also an opportunity for us to look at what we can do about it. We’ve got to keep taking concrete steps to end that violence, because it’s unacceptable that people continue to be killed and continue to be violently attacked.”
