Jackson New Jersey Police Department File Bias Complaint Alleging Mayor Made Anti-Gay Comment
Members of the Jackson, New Jersey Police Department have filed a bias complaint against Mayor Michael Reina, according to the APP, alleging he made an anti-gay comment while speaking with officers at police headquarters and that one of the officers who overheard the homophobic remark is gay. According to confidential investigation report, on September 30th, Reina was speaking with Sergeant Steven Laskiewicz, who reportedly told Reina he was a hero for deflecting criticism away from Governor Chris Christie after the mayor complained about the media coverage he had earned about accepting a $78,000 a year position in the state Transportation Department which required Reina to forfeit his mayor’s salary. According to the report, Reina then said “At least I’m not a homo.” Reina denies he made the statement and says he has no knowledge of either a report or an investigation, saying “The next thing you know some will claim I stole candy from someone on Halloween.”
