Georgia-Based Evangelical Heads To Uganda To Stop Spread Of Homosexuality; Says East Africa Economic Woes Punishment For God’s Growing Displeasure With Homosexuality; Adds “I’m Not Homophobic
Carl Jenkins, founder of the Georgia-based evangelical ministry Christ Central Christian Ministries Worldwide is partnering with church leaders in Uganda and bordering countries to fight homosexuality arguing that east Africa’s economic potential is being limited and that a stronger morality needs to be implemented, Jenkins telling AOL News “Overall, we’re not seeing the moral change and economic change that Christ can give if you are obedient and dedicated to the word of God,” adding “I’m not homophobic, but I can glean from the Bible that God is not please with homosexuality.” To that end, Jenkins is structuring the ministry throughout Uganda, claiming to have opened 30 branch affiliates, aiming to open another 30 next year, as well as 55 for Kenya. Sunday, he consecrated 16 bishops from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, many of whom believe that ostraciasation from church is the appropriate response to stopping the spread of homosexuality, since that, they said, would induce shame in the offender and encourage him or her to change. Although he is against homosexuality, Jenkins argues that anti-homosexual attitudes in Uganda – including a bill that proposes the death penalty for forms of “aggravated homosexuality” – goes too far, and he condemns “all the forms of resistance – homophobic violence, ostracism and embarrassment.” His mission is allegedly create a climate of tolerance in east Africa, saying “God did not put us here as judgers. The problem is we use God’s word to express our own intolerance and miss the spirituality.” Jenkins then proceeds to completely contradict himself, saying “I don’t believe hanging or corporal punishment. But homosexuality shouldn’t be legally allowed either. That would be the same as promoting it. We believe that when the government allows unnatural behaviour, it can attract negative judgement of God to a place.”
