Defense Department Orders Pentagon Study On Repealing Military Ban On Openly Gay Service Members Be Released One Day Earlier; An Attempt To “Support Congress’s Wish To Consider Repeal Before They Adjourn”

The Washington Post suggests that “signalling the growing seriousness of the Obama administration’s commitment this year to ending the military’s ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces, the Defense Department said Sunday that it will release a long-awaited report on the matter earlier than planned because senators are eager to vote on whether to repeal the policy.” Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the report will now be released November 30th, one day earlier than initially planned, “to support Congress’s wish to consider repeal before they adjourn. That report is thought to conclude that the military can lift the ban on gays serving openly in all branches of the armed services with only isolated incidents of risks to the current war efforts and minimal disruption.
