CNN reports that Marquise L. Foster surrendered to Essex County, New Jersey authorities Saturday night, the 25 year old a suspect in the murder of 28 year old Victoria Carmen White, a transgendered Newark women, shot September 12th in an apartment in Maplewood. Police continue to search for a second suspect, 23 year old Alrashim N. Chambers. Last week, authorities announced that they were investigating the killing of White as a possible bias-motivated crime.
Alan Cumming has launched a campaign condemning President Barack Obama, The Herald Scotland reporting that the Scottish-born, openly gay actor, who became an American citizen in November, 2008, three days after Obama was elected to office, and who has been an ardent advocate for the president, said “We keep hearing that Obama is an ally, that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will end under his watch, but what do we actually get? Diddly squat thus far on a federal level, and in addition to that some very offensive statements that would have made the Republicans look bad.” He added that unless fulfills his pre-election promise to repeal the military policy prohibiting openly gay service members soon, the president is guilty of cultivating anti-gay prejudice, saying “When America is full of hatred of all kinds, but especially hatred towards young gay people, what, message is the President sending when he repeatedly goes out of his way to spread the message that the gay population is not worthy of respect that everyone else is? How can we counsel our children not to bully their gay classmates or mock their gay friends when they see their President, their beloved President Obama, refusing to do the equivalent in regards to troops and other adults? “
Keira Knightley will reportedly make her West End debut in a revival of Lillian Hellman’s landmark play The Children’s Hour, so says the New York Post. The play, written in 1934, tells a tale of two female teachers at a girl’s boarding school, whose lives are ruined when one of their students accuses the two of having a lesbian relationship. The play was banned in Boston, but opened on Broadway in 1936, a film adaption appearing in 1961 starring Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. The Post adds that the play will likely move from London to New York sometime in the winter of 2011, and that Rosie O’Donnell is in talks to co-star.
