The White House late Thursday released a video of President Obama a part of the It Gets Better viral campaign to raise awareness bullying, and of teen suicide, as well as to provide support for at-risk lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth, Obama saying “I don’t know what it’s like to be picked on for being gay, but I do know what it’s like to grow up feeling that sometimes you don’t belong. It’s tough.” Does the president’s message of equality and of the guaranteed right to pursue happiness stand at odds with an administration that continues to deny marriage equality, and is enforcing an archaic policy prohibiting openly gay service members in all branches of the armed forces?
