The Los Angeles Times reports that the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center has received a $13 million federal grant over the next five years to provide services and support for gay youth within the foster care system, the largest ever grant to a gay organization by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Since gay foster children are often not accepted by others in foster homes, they often face homelessness once they ago out of the system, becoming vulnerable to crime, drug addiction, and suicide. The Center’s chief executive Lorrie L. Jean said “This landmark grant will fund the development of a much-needed model program to protect the health and well-being of LGBTQ foster youth – a program that will save lives, save taxpayer dollars, and could be replicated in cities around the country.”

United States District Judge Mary Lisi said Friday that the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage has until next week to re-file a lawsuit that seeks the right to run advertisements in the Rhode Island’s governor’s race without complying with state campaign finance law, the Providence Journal reports. Lisi dismissed the original suit, saying it is disorganized, vague, and poorly constructed, and that the relevant allegations were “buried in the lawsuit.” Nom has till Wednesday to re-file, the group arguing that it should hold the right to run ads without having to report its expenses or comply with other spending limits set of political action committees.

Fair Wisconsin – a gay rights group- has partnered with five same sex couples, filing a motion Friday to intervene in the lawsuit brought against the state in August by anti-gay group Wisconsin Family Action, who argue that the legal protections afforded same sex couples 14 months previously are unconstitutional because the contradict Wisconsin’s ban on gay marriage and civil unions, according to WFRV. Fair Wisconsin and the five gay couples contend that the law is fact constitutional and that gay and lesbians require the protections the state’s domestic partnership registry grants them, including hospital visitation rights and the ability to take medical leave to care for an ill partner.

The Indianapolis Star on Friday morning’s Gay Cupcake Party hosted by radio station WNOU-FM in support of the IUPUI group whose request to have rainbow coloured cupcakes to celebrate National Coming Out Day October 7th at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis was denied by the owner of Just Cookies, David Stockton, who explained that his was a family run business, and that he did not feel comfortable preparing a special order for a group that endorsed homosexual activity. A spokesperson for Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said that city’s Office of Equal Opportunity is investigating the incident because Just Cookies is a tenant of City Market, owned and operated by the city.
