Home Of Gay Couple In Little Pond Prince Edward Island Burned To Ground; Investigated As Crime While Community Fears Arson
CBC is reporting that a gay couple in Little Pond, Prince Edward Island may have been the victim of a hate crime, the two men, who moved from British Columbia to the small community in eastern P.E.I. five years ago, awaking to the sound of windows being smashed and a fire erupting inside their home. The two escaped without injury, the home, however, was burned to the ground. Previous reports indicate that the couple has had their home broken into, and their mailbox destroyed A criminal investigation continues. The community, meanwhile, is condemning the incident, this Sunday, the Reverend Beth Johnston of the Dundas United Church, delivering a sermon urging tolerance and support, some in the community have begun to collect donations. The couple is reportedly not willing to speak publically at this time, but friends say the emotional trauma is severe and that they couple are afraid for their lives.
