Steven Slater, the former JetBlue flight attendant whose now infamous tantrum August 9th aboard a plane that had arrived in New York City’s Kennedy Airport from Pittsburgh, appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted criminal mischief, according to a report in the New York Daily News. Slater will avoid any jail time, having agreed to a plea deal where he will pay $10,000 in damages to Jet Blue, as well as undergo twelve months of mental health counselling, including substance abuse. Outside the courthouse, Slater thanked his mother and his boyfriend for their support, saying “It is their kindness that has gotten me through to this day.” He added that “At the end of the day, I am grown-up and I have take responsibility for my actions.” Upon completion of the counselling, Slater will have one of the counts he pleaded guilty to – a felony – expunged, therefore only a misdemeanour will remain on his record.
