Chris Colfer Perfect Role Model, Anderson Cooper Interviews Lady Gaga, Britain’s Peter Tatchell Orchestrates Gay Marriage And Civil Partnership Protest, Possible Hate Crime In Albany, Gay Bashing In Denver

Cute Chris Colfer gives an exclusive interview to the Edmonton Journal, the 20 year old Colfer, who is openly gay, and says that the best part of playing gay Kurt Hummel on Glee is “knowing that the role I play and the material I’m given affect so many kids out there. Getting the letters from them that make you bawl your eyes out, I think that’s the best part of it. Some of these kids need something like my character just to cope with everyday life. People are excited that there’s someone like him on television, that is his own character, who isn’t the sidekick or punching bag in every scene, and who has his own storyline and is his own person.” Colfer concedes that he tries to be the best possible role model for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities, perhaps a tad too seriously, saying “If somebody had to be a role model, I think I’m a good candidate, in the sense that I really don’t do anything obviously stupid or wrong, and I’m pretty smart with my judgements.”

Anderson Cooper interviews Lady Gaga in London for an upcoming 60 Minutes profile.

A campaign that is being championed by Britain’s prominent gay rights activist Peter Tatchell will begin in November which seeks to overturn bans on gay marriages and straight civil partnerships, reports the Guardian. Four same sex couples will apply for civil marriage and four opposite sex couple will apply for civil partnerships each week, Tatchell saying that “Our aim is to overturn both the ban on same sex marriage and the ban on opposite sex civil partnerships,” adding that “Civil marriage and civil partnerships should be open to everyone without discrimination.”

WNYT is reporting that a possible hate crime occurred early Saturday in Albany, New York 23 year old Vincent Webster alleging that after leaving the Rocks Bar on Central Avenue, he entered the adjacent Yankees Pizzeria. Webster says he accidentally spilled cheese himself, and when he went to brush it off onto the floor, an employee became enraged, yelling “You fucking faggot, you made a fucking mess, get the fuck out, you faggot.” Webster says he then turned around and the employee started punching him repeatedly in the face. Police were called, and the employee was arrested, although he admits to the assault, he denies any anti-gay motivation. Webster, who was taken to hospital, where he was treated and received six stitches, says the employee is lying. Alicia Ortiz, an area gay activist, says “Vincent didn’t do anything to provoke the attack,” and she adds that two other employees cheered on the employee attacking Webster. Police continue to investigate.

And in Denver, Colorado, William Babcock is recovering after he and two other friends were allegedly assault by a group of six outside an area 7-Eleven early Friday, 9-News reporting Babcock’s jaw was broken in two places and he is scheduled for surgery Monday. Babcock says that the three men were inside the store when a group of men began making anti-gay comments. He says he went outside to call 911, but before he was able to place the call, one of the men knocked him unconscious. The two other friends both suffered concussions. Babcock, who moved to Denver from New York in June, says that he has heard of two other gay bashing that have gone unreported because he says the victims feared the police would be reluctant to help. Denver Police are investigating this case, reviewing security surveillance from the 7-Eleven, who confirms that attack and the suspects are clearly captured on the video, although there is no audio.
