Attorneys For Molly Wei Say She Is Innocent And Is A “Wonderful” Woman “With A Bright Future;” New Jersey Attorney General Reportedly Adding Hate Crime Charges Against Wei And Dharun Ravi For Part They Played In Suicide Of Gay 18 Year Old Tyler Clementi Whose Bright Future The Two Stole

Attorneys for Molly Wei, one of the two Rutgers University undergraduates charged with invasion of privacy after she and Dharun Ravi live streamed online an intimate encounter between fellow freshman Tyler Clementi, an action that precipitated the 18 year old Clementi committing suicide, said Tuesday that their client is innocent, CBS News reporting that in a statement lawyers described Wei as “a wonderful, caring and talented young woman with a bright future.” They added that Wei has been maligned by unfounded, unsubstantiated attacks on her character. Meanwhile Middlesex New Jersey Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said that the state Attorney General Paula Dow is determining whether to add a hate crime stipulation to all the charges currently filed against Dharun and Wei, as well as additional charges, although Kaplan added “I’m unaware of any case in New Jersey where the homicide status have been used to hold somebody responsible for somebody else who chose to commit suicide.”
