The Associated Press is reporting that President Obama was heckled at a fundraiser Wednesday in New York City at a ballroom of the Roosevelt Hotel, the protestors demanding decisive action to repeal the military ban on openly gay service members and more federal funding for AIDS programs, yelling slogans and holding signs reading “Obama broken promises KILL.” According to the AP the demonstrators were so raucous that Obama went off a prepared script to address them, insisting his administration has increased AIDS funding and is determined to overturn the policy known as “don’t ask, don’t tell,” saying “Some of those signs should be going up at the other folks’ events, and folks should be hollering at the other folks’ event. Because the choice in November could not be clearer,” adding “We heard your point. And as I said before, we increased AIDS funding ... The people who will take over if we don’t focus on the election, I promise you, will cut AIDS funding.”

The Atlanta Journal Constitution on United States Senator Saxby Chambliss (Republican, Georgia) confirmed that an anti-gay comment left on the blog Joe. My. God. was in fact from his office, although his office released a statement that it has yet to determine who exactly left the comment “All Faggots Must Die,” and has turned the investigation over to the Senate sergeant at arms.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution also reporting that a third lawsuit was filed Wednesday against New Birth Missionary Baptist Church leader, Bishop Eddie Long, 23 year old Jamal Parris alleging that Long made the former summer camp counsellor called him “Daddy” and coerced him into sexual acts. Long, historically anti-gay, denied today’s charges and has scheduled a press conference for Thursday morning. According to the suit, Parris and his mother joined the church in 2001 at the age of 14. Within a two week timeframe, Long gave Parris his cell phone number, their relationship intensifying during the 2004/2005 school year, “Initially, Long engaged in sexual touching during their encounters and then escalated the activity to oral sodomy and other acts of sexual gratification. Long would discuss the Holy Scripture to justify and support the sexual activity.” Parris claims he left the church in 2009 “disillusioned, confused, and angry.” Although not commenting directly on the suit, Republican gubernatorial candidate cancelled a fundraising event this Friday that Bishop Long was to co-host. Because all three of plaintiffs may have been underage in states Long took them to, the United Justice Department is said to be conducting its own investigation.

September 10th, United States District Judge Virginia A. Philips ruled on a case brought by the Log Cabin Republicans that the policy maintained by the American military prohibiting openly gay service members violates due process and First Amendment right and holds a “direct and deleterious” effect on the armed forces, and gave the federal government until Thursday, September 23rd to appeal. The Washington Post on the implications of whether the Department of Justice does or does not appeal.
