Democratic Sponsor Of New Hampshire Gay Marriage Measure Fears Republican-Led Legislative Attack To Repeal Law, Parents Of Maine Transgendered Child Again Forced To File Human Rights Complaint, Libertarian Party Wants Gay Vote, Lindsay Lohan Denied Bail Ordered To Jail Until Late October, Nick Youngquest, Sexy Short Track Speed Skater Jorrit Oosetn

Portsmouth-Newington New Hampshire state Representative Jim Splaine, speaking to students Thursday in a family programs and policy class at the University of New Hampshire said that there is a Republican-led effort in the Legislature to repeal the state’s gay marriage measure, according to the SeacoastOnline.com. Splaine, a Democrat and sponsor of the gay marriage bill signed into law in June, 2009, said that three anti-gay marriage bills have already been filed, and that in primary voting last week seven Republicans supportive of gay marriage faced competition from more conservative GOP members, and that two of the seven were defeated. “You could well see there’s not going to be (the) votes we need to keep marriage from repeal,” he said. He added that “If you are supportive of this issue, you’re going to be part of this process. Testify. Send letters. Write letters to the editor.” To date, 1,155 same sex marriages have been performed in New Hampshire since the law came into effect January 1st, 2010. Splaine said “I think it’s unlikely that the effort to repeal will succeed. I think there’s a number of Republicans who will be on our side. But I am very fearful.”

On Monday, the Bangor Daily News reports that the Maine Human Rights Commission ruled the Orono Middle School unlawfully discriminated against a six-grade student during the 2008/2009 school year by barring the male-female transgender student the use of the girl’s bathroom. This is the same student whose parents filed the same discrimination complaint against Asa Adams Elementary School in Orono when the child was fifth-graders. That complaint resulted in the same ruling. Also Monday, the Human Rights Commission once again began talks about developing and implementing anti-discrimination standards specifically for schools under the Maine Human Rights Act.

The Wall Street Journal on an attempt by the Libertarian Party to court the gay vote, Party Chairman Mark Hinkle issuing a statement Thursday “President Obama and the Democrats had almost a year of complete control of the federal government. They could have repealed ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’ They could have gotten rid of the Defense of Marriage Act. But they didn’t do either.” He added, drawing an interesting, if not analogy, that gays and lesbians “like abused spouses who keep returning to their aggressors” need to stop “handing their votes to the Democrats who abuse them.”

Lindsay Lohan has been ordered back to jail. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the actress, who violated her probation when a report was produced “indicating a positive test for a controlled substance” was taken into custody Friday morning in a Los Angeles court without bail and sent to jail until apparently October 22nd, at which time Judge Elden Fox scheduled another court appearance.
