Cheyenne Couple Withdraws Suit Challenging State Gay Marriage Ban
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the Cheyenne, Wyoming gay couple, who filed the first suit against the state challenging Wyoming law governing gay marriage, withdrew the suit Friday in federal court. 25 year old David Shupe-Roderick and 21 year old Ryan W. Dupree filed the suit August 13th, arguing that the Wyoming law defining marriage as that existing only “between a male and female person” violated their constitutional rights. The subsequent response to the suit from state and federal gay rights groups was mostly critical, who were concerned about the suit’s legal arguments and Shupe-Roderick’s well-documented record of ligation and criminal activities. The two have yet to comment, and the reason behind the withdrawal is not known.
