UPI reports that Florida’s Department of Children and Families will not remove two children at the center of court challenge to constitutional validity of the state’s gay adoption ban if that ban is ruled to be valid. The agency said that even if an appeals court (or the state Supreme Court) were to rule that the two boys adopted by Martin Gill, a gay man, should not have been approved, the state will not remove the children, Department Secretary George Sheldon saying “Those children appear to be safe, well-adjusted. We’re not in the business of doing that (removing them). Florida Governor Charlie Crist, now on record supporting the right of gays to adopt children, said he is reviewing whether to drop the state appeal to an original order by a Miami-Dade Circuit Court in 2008 that found the Florida ban on gay men and women adopting children was unconstitutional, allowing Gill to adopt the two boys. Advocates of gay adoption rights do not want Crist to drop the appeal, insisting that only a court can grant a final decision.

Friday, according to GLAAD, the E! program Daily 10 featured crude, anti-gay comments by guest-host Mike Catherwood, who, referencing last week’s beach brawl between Adam Lambert and a photographer and the threat of criminal action against Adam, said “From what I know about jail, Mr. Lambert probably wouldn’t have too bad a time.” Catherwood first attempted an awkward apology, and then Monday attempted an awkward defense. E! has assured the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation that it intends to issue an on-air apology.
