Reports Thursday that institutional shareholders of Target Corp are demanding via a resolution that the retailer revise its donation process in the wake of a public disclosure that Target had contributed $150,000 to the conservative, right-wing political action committee MN Forward, who in turn donated funds to the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Tom Emmer, whose anti-gay stance is well documented. There are three management firms sponsoring the resolution – Calvert Asset, Trillium Asset, and Walden Asset – and together the three hold $57.5 million of Target stock. Tim Smith, a senior vice president at Walden, said that “imprudent donation can potentially have a major negative impact on company reputations and business if they don’t carefully and fully assess a candidate’s positions.” He added that companies funding ballot initiatives “can similarly backfire.”
“Homosexuality,” writes Stephenson Billings at ChristWire.org, “can pop up at any time during a long-term relationship,” consequently Stephenson, the author of “Is My Husband Gay?” compiles a list “drawing on the expertise of spiritual and medical professionals,” of the “15 commonly-accepted characteristics of men struggling with homosexuality within a marriage.” There are the obvious (“Secretive late night use of cellphones and computers,” “Overly fastidious about his appearance and the home”) as well as the odd (“Travels frequently to big cities and Asia,” “Sassy, sarcastic and ironic around his friends”) but the one that is equalling alarming as it is inane is number 13: “Extroverted about his bare chest in public,” which asks “Does he go shirtless in the backyard or at picnics when other men are around? Does he wear a speedo at the beach? Does it seem like he’s purposely standing right in the middle of a crowd to show off his chest and arm muscles, peppering people with questions about how strong he looks? He may be craving physical affirmation from other men and desperately looking for hints of shared desires in those around him.”
