Mexico Supreme Court Upholds Gay Adoption Measure, Proposition 8 Proponents Argue Marriage As A Vehicle For Procreation Is In The Interest Of State, Johnny Weir Says He Would Marry A Woman And Dares You To Laugh, Smoking Sexy Camille Lacourt, Angelina Jolie To Play Marilyn Monroe With George Clooney As Sinatra, Steven Slater Meets Manilow

The Mexican Supreme Court Monday ruled to uphold a Mexico City law affording adoptions by same sex couple. By a vote of 9-2, the justices rejected a challenge by federal prosecutors who had argued that the law fails to protect the adoptive children from possible damaging effects or discrimination. The court voted last week to uphold the other part of the Mexico City law – passed in December, 2009 – that legalized gay marriage in Mexico City alone.

Attorneys for proponents of Proposition 8 continue to hit the same note, arguing on appeal that United States Chief Justice Vaughn Walker erred when he dismissed arguments that the state has an overriding interest in promoting responsible procreation via heterosexual marriages, and that that interest would be jeopardized if gay marriage were to be legal. Monday, the lawyers wrote that “the record leaves no doubt, none at all, that California, 44 other states, and the vast majority of the countries throughout the world continue to draw the line at marriage because it continues to serve a vital societal interest that is equally ubiquitous – to channel potentially procreative sexual relationships into enduring, stable unions for the sake of responsibly producing and raising the next generation.” The lawyers contend that the idea Proposition 8 was largely founded on a religiously rooted moral disapproval of gay Californians to be blatantly false, arguing that if that were true, laws against prostitution and assisted suicide built upon strong moral components would also be proven invalid. The arguments are the last to be made in an effort to have the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals by Proposition 8 advocates to persuade the three justice panel to prevent the August 4th ruling by Judge Vaughn Walker from taking effect at 5:00 pm PST Wednesday that overrides the state’s ban on same sex marriage.

Johnny Weir says “I’m completely self-sufficient. I don’t need anyone for anything. I can have sex with myself, I can love myself, I can do all those things myself. The importance that people place on me not having another half even if it’s just for sex, it’s irrelevant to me,” Weir adding “I would marry a woman. I very well could. People laugh at me, but why is that so funny? I love women. My whole stance is that I just want people to react to who I am, I don’t want people to react to what I am.”
