Thursday United States District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled to continue a stay on gay marriages in California until at least August 18th. Despite earlier, unconfirmed reports that Walker had lifted the stay and that gay men and women could resume marrying, he opted to impose a new timeline to allow anti-gay marriage groups an opportunity to appeal to the 9th United States Circuit Court of Appeals. If the appeals court fails to act by 5:00 PST on August 18th, 2010, gay marriage in the state can commence.
