Edmonton Capitals Baseball Manager Suspended For A Mere Two Games Following On-Field Anti-Gay Attack Against Openly Gay Umpire, California Attorney General Jerry Brown And Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Request That Proposition 8 Stay Be Removed And That Gay Marriages Begin, Trial For Two Marines Accused In Anti-Gay Attack In Georgia Postponed, Queen Latifah Spends Romantic French Vacation With Longtime Girlfriend, Ryan Lochte Upsets Michael Phelps, Dirty Denver Broncos

Details are emerging that the manager of the Edmonton Capitals of the Golden Baseball League, Brent Bowers, was ejected from a game against the Orange County Express July 31st for allegedly repeatedly calling umpire Billy Van Raaphorst “a fucking faggot” after a questionable call, horrible enough, and made more so since Van Raaphorst is openly gay. According to Van Raaphorst’s official ejection report, Bowers screamed profanities, made sexually explicit comments, and at one point, intimated anal sex, bent over and grabbed his own ankles. The report alleges Bowers screamed “You know what I heard? I heard you are a fucking faggot. The rumour from several managers and people in the league is that you are a fag,” Bowers then threatened Van Raaphorst saying “I ought to kick your ass, you faggot.” For his actions, Bowers was suspended two games. That meagre sanction outraged the league’s umpires, all of who threatened a boycott. By today, the GBL officials managed to convince the umpires that the league would investigate further. One GBL official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that “if this sort of incident had happened in any other workplace, the (perpetrator) would not be working there any more.”

Late Friday afternoon, California Attorney General Jerry Brown called on United States District Chief Judge Vaughn Walker to allows same sex marriage to commence immediately, telling Walker that his historic ruling overturning Proposition 8 – the state’s gay marriage ban – will likely be upheld by higher courts on appeal, adding that the attorney general office opposed a pre-trial request to block Proposition 8 only because at that time the factual and legal issues had not been explored. “That has now occurred,” said Brown, “And while there is still the potential for limited administrative burdens should future marriages of same-sex couples be later declared invalid, these potential burdens are outweighed by this court’s conclusion, based on the overwhelming evidence, that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.”

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger then filed a brief with Walker before a deadline to submit arguments on whether to continue or forgo a stay of Walker’s ruling made Wednesday, requesting the that gay men and women be allowed to begin marrying. “The Administration believes the public interest is best served by permitting the Court’s judgement to go into effect, thereby restoring the right of same-sex couples to marry in California,” wrote an attorney representing the governor’s office, Kenneth C. Mennemeier, who added that “Doing so is consistent with California’s long history of treating all people and their relationships with equal dignity and respect.”

Thursday, a hearing for two Beaufort, South Carolina stationed Marines accused of attacking a gay Savannah was continued until September 9th. The postponement, the second delay for 22 year old Corporal Keil Cronaur and 23 year old Lance Corporal Christopher C. Stanzel, both charged with misdemeanour battery in a violent attack on 26 year old Kieran Daly on June 12th, who was discovered unconscious by officers. The Marine’s defence attorney’s requested the postponement to review a video received from the prosecutors, although the contents of the tape were not disclosed.
