Authorities in Sao Paulo, Brazil are reported that one teenaged male is dead, and some seventeen others are arrested after a fight occurred between two rival gangs both en route to a gay pride parade in Juiz de Fora. It is neither clear what the motive was, nor if the victim was gay.
A coalition of gay advocacy groups gathered in Washington, D.C. Sunday at The Big Commit, a rally in support of gay marriage. Broadway Cares, the Courage Campaign, DC Clergy United for Marriage Equality, Get EQUAL, and the National Black Justice Coalition, are those attending in a “collaborative effort to send a message of inclusion, tolerance, and community support” countering the message of discrimination, exclusion, and hate offered by the National Organization for Marriage, who conclude their tepid tour of “One Man, One Women” Summer for Marriage Tour. Among the participants at The Big Commit, big little man Will Phillips, the Arkansas student who refused to stand for the pledge of allegiance because gays, lesbians, and transgender Americans still do not have full equality.
In New York City, the 30th annual India Day Parade was held and this year’s incarnation was the first ever to include the South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association.
From New Zealand, the two Christchurch Airport Customs officers who were allegedly fired for revealing to a local newspaper detailed concerns about the behaviour of gay customs officer, have both been reinstated. The Employment Relations Authority found that the Customs agency failed to follow proper protocol in dismissing the two, who objected to a policy that prevented passengers from knowing the sexual orientation of the officers who were in charge of conducting strip searches at airports. The two men leaked confidential documents about an openly gay colleague, and implied that the officer might have been misusing his authority for sexual satisfaction. The Customs agency is appealing the ruling.
Not surprisingly, rumours are rampant that Trevor Donovan’s character Teddy Montgomery is the male 90210 to come out this season three.
