Tamara Scott, state director of political action committee Concerned Women for America, speaking in Des Moines, Iowa Sunday as a part of the National Organization for Marriage rally meant to “reclaiming” the state through a constitutional amendment asking voters to reverse a 2009 state Supreme Court ruling that Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional, said that a part of the country’s current economic collapse was to be blamed on the social costs of the threatened traditional family by the legalization of gay marriage. She told a crowd in the 50’s “it costs you, the taxpayer, as high as $280 billion a year for fragmented families, according to the Family Research Council, citing a study by the vehemently anti-gay D.C. –based Christian political action committee. At a rally also in Des Moines Sunday, organized by One Iowa, that state’s largest gay rights advocacy group, Iowa First Lady Mari Culver, was asked whether the argument Scott advanced suggesting that the traditional family stabilized the economy, Culver said “heterosexuals have not done a great job with marriage and the family,” referencing several studies that reveal more than half of heterosexual marriage end in divorce. “I think a strong middle class makes a strong economy. I think (NOM) is looking for some economic cover, rather that revealing that some in their group are simply anti-gay.”

In an interview with the Sun Saturday, during which 19 year old X-Factor champion Joe McElderry publically came out, he mentioned that he had only ever kissed another male once, but did not want to talk about it because it would not be fair to unidentified man. Well, that man, 23 year old Sean Ryan, questionably, took it upon himself to say he was the recipient of McElderry’s first gay kiss. The hair stylist trainee and model, who met the singer backstage last July at an X-Factor show, says to the Sun of McElderry “He was my kind of guy, handsome with dark eyes. I really fancied him from the moment he came on stage.”
