An update: late Thursday the same Presbyterian hierarchy decided not to redefine marriage the in church constitution to include “two people” instead of “a man and a woman.” The vote passed by a small margin – 51-percent – however church leaders could agree to readdress the issue Friday. If that does not happen, the issue cannot be revisited for another two years.
Researchers have discovered antibodies that are able to protect against a wide range of AIDS viruses and they believe that they are able to use them to design a vaccine against the incurable virus. Gary Nabel, of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who led the study, said “I am more optimistic about an AIDS vaccine at this point in time that I have been probably in the last 10 years.”
After a meeting Thursday with GLAAD, NBC announced it was revising the rules for its annual Modern Wedding contest to allow same sex couples to apply for a ceremony to be conducted on The Today Show. The network extended the deadlines for application until Monday. Jarrett Barrios, the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said “we thrilled that ‘Today show’s “Modern Wedding Contest’ now recognizes what most fair-mined Americans have already concluded – a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay.”
