Last Wednesday a motion passed Toronto city council by a vote of 36-1 that Toronto Pride will not be required to repay the $123,800 city grant after allowing Queers Against Israeli Apartheid to participate in the Pride Parade July 4th after initially banning the group for being discriminatory. The motions includes a clause, however, that Pride will not receive any funds in 2011 until after the parade, and only then providing it proves all registered participants comply with the city of Toronto’s anti-discrimination policy.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, akin to the stance adopted by the Catholic Church, is reminding its faithful followers to defend the traditional definition of family and to oppose a proposal to legalize gay marriage in Argentina. A letter from Mormon President Thomas S. Monson read Sunday at every LDS congregation in Argentina read that the “doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is absolutely clear: Marriage is between a man and a woman and is ordained by God. We recommend that together as families you review The Family: A Proclamation to the World to understand more fully the doctrine of the church in regards to this topic.” Despite the obvious tone of the letter, however, church officials in Salt Lake City, Utah, say that the LDS “has taken no official position on the legislation being considered.”
The Staten Island Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Center is called on the community to come together as a sign of strength and support after an attack on a gay couple in the early hours of last Wednesday in and outside of an area White Castle restaurant. In an e-mail sent to its members, the Center says that “we are saddened by the attack on two gay men early Wednesday in Stapleton. We invited the Staten Island LGBT community to come together to formulate a response to this, and any anti-LGBT violence on Staten Island.” The meeting is to be held Tuesday evening at the Center beginning at 7:00 pm. New York City Police are still investigating, aided by the Hate Crimes unit.
A review of Lady Gaga’s concert Sunday in Toronto, the performance punctuated by calls of support from Gaga to her “all my Toronto gay boys,” and to area charities, including a LGBT Youth Homeless support group. Elton John attended last night’s concert, causing rampant speculation that he will join Gaga Monday evening at her second Toronto show, the two perhaps performing a duet.
Kylie Minogue Saturday also paid homage to her gay fan base, the Australian making a pilgrimage to the London club G.A.Y. where she performed a series of songs from her just released Aphrodite, aided, naturally, by a bevy of beautiful backup boys.
According to reports, Robbie Williams is set to rejoin Take That for an album and tour, as well as a video with Gary Barlow that will be Brokeback Mountain themed for the first single titled Shame.
Tom Brady was seen all sweaty Friday at UCLA working on his passing. He still plays football, right?
Congratulations to Spain, winners of the 2010 FIFA World Cup of Soccer, the dreamy Fernando Torres spotted Sunday celebrated despite suffering an injury towards the end of the match against the Netherlands, Spain taking a 1-0 victory in a game that was unfortunately unremarkable.
