The Eight Annual Gay Games began Saturday in Cologne, Germany, attended by openly gay German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. The games are a weeklong celebration that includes thirty-five sporting events, from track and field to swimming. An estimated 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries are expected to attend. Matthew Mitcham, the openly gay Australian Olympic gold-medal winning diver, seen below at Saturday’s Gay Games opening ceremony, said that the games exist because many gay and lesbian athletes might believe that there is no place for them in the sporting world. “There are a lot of sports that have this macho mentality, and a lot of gay and lesbian people might not feel comfortable in that kind of environment,” said Mitcham. “I think the Gay Games is a great way for people to actually participate in sport where they might not normally have felt comfortable enough.”

NFL opening day is a little over a month away (thankfully) and training camps opened this past week. Among the cute quarterbacks in action is the all-American Super Bowl champion New England Patriots’ Tom Brady.
Chicago Bears star quarterback (and personal favourite) Jay Cutler.
Matt Ryan, the young, very talented Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback.
Notre Dame Alum and Carolina Panther’s rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen, whose bad reputation is outweighed by the fact that he looks like he stepped off the pages of an A&F quarterly.
