First Argentine Gay Marriage To Take Place August 13th, United States Sponsors United Nations Resolution To Accredit Gay Human Rights Group, Warsaw Poland Prepares For Gay Rights Rally, GLSEN To Honour Modern Family, Chace Crawford Casual, Taylor Lautner Shirtless Once More, Kellan Lutz And Matt Leinart Grab Their Big Balls

Friday, officials in Argentina announced that the country’s first gay marriage will be that of Ernesto Rodriguez and Alejandro Vanelli, 60 and 61 years old respectively, the two a couple for 34 years. The union has been authorized by municipal officials in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, where three years ago the same couple were denied a request to marry. Thursday, the Senate voted to pass a measure legalizing same sex marriage by a vote of 33-27, becoming the first Latin America country to do so. Mexico City, where gay marriage, legalized in December, 2009, has offered the first Argentina gay couple to wed an all-expense paid honeymoon trip the capital city.

An update on a previous story: the Obama administration and 14 members of the United States Congress are urging that the United Nations Economic and Social Council accredit the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission so that the American-based organization can work at the U.N. The group, which advocates on behalf of the LGBT community, has tried unsuccessfully since 2007 to attain consultative status with the Council which works in conjunction with the main U.N. forum. It believes the repeated rejections to be based on homophobia. Jessica Stern, the ECOSOC’s program director, said that a vote on the American draft resolution is likely to be held Monday, and added that “given that more than 70 countries around the world still have sodomy laws in effect and that homophobia is rampant around the world, the opportunity to be recognized by the international community and the human rights standards that the U.N. represents is invaluable to our work.”

Saturday, Warsaw, Poland will host Europe’s largest Gay Pride celebration, the event a rally for equal rights. Organizers estimate attendance to be in the tens of thousands, despite the threat of multiple anti-gay counter-demonstrations. Warsaw authorities say that they have received a petition with more than 50,000 signatures demanding that the event be cancelled. Homophobia, often violent, continues to be rampant throughout the Eastern European country.

GLSEN – the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network – announced it intends to honour ABC’s Modern Family at its 6th Annual Respect Awards to be held in Los Angeles, October 8th. The show, which recently received multiple Emmy nominations for its first season, will be honoured for its portrayal of positive images and for story lines that reflect a diverse America, including the depiction of the gay couple – Cameron and Mitchell – who are raising an adopted daughter Lily.

Chace Crawford spotted wandering the streets of Manhattan Friday, two beefy, burly bodyguards in tow.

Taylor Lautner, who famously said that he does not take off his shirt in a film unless that action is integral to the plot, photographed shirtless on the set of his new movie Abduction, natch.

Thursday, Taylor’s Twilight co-star Kellan Lutz joined Matt Leinart at the 4th Annual Matt Leinart Foundation Celebrity Bowl that took place at the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley.
