Christian Brethren operates Phillip Island Adventure Resort, a campground in Victoria, and in 2007 the gay youth advocacy group WayOut wanted to book facilities to host young gay men and women who had been discriminated against. Christian Brethren initially accepted the booking, but cancelled it, saying that WayOut promotes homosexuality, which, according to the Christian Brethren, is against its core understanding of the Bible, campsite spokesperson Mark Rowe saying that the aim of WayOut is to “promote a lifestyle to youth as young as 12.”
