Despite overtures that the Church of England would consider elevating an openly gay, but celibate priest to that of bishop, the Commission Wednesday again rejected Dr. Jeffrey John. As previously posted, seven years ago John withdrew from an appointment as an assistant bishop over reaction to his homosexuality by Church hierarchy and the congregation. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams had indicated that despite a stance opposed to the election of openly gay clergy he would support John’s nomination. However, the conservative Anglican Commission again refused to expand its narrow limits and adopt a posture that welcomed acceptance and inclusivity.
Aaron Schock is the 29 year old Republican Congressman from Illinois whose attire at a White House picnic in June launched him into the preppy Hall of Fame pantheon, is profiled by the New York Times, and while the sexy Schock is an obvious gay icon, he denies – again – being gay, the Times reporting that he is “single and opposed to gay marriage, and he has told reporters he is not gay,” as well as mentioning a former, yet unnamed girlfriend, a refrain that sounds so familiar somehow.
