Argentine President Christina Fernandez signed into law Wednesday a new bill legalizing gay marriage in the Latin American country, the first same sex ceremony scheduled for August 13th. At the signing ceremony Fernandez said that “today we are a society that is a little more egalitarian than last week.”

In Germany, Green Party Member of Parliament Kai Gehring says that the German Family Minister Kristina Schroder is recklessly ignoring the needs of the country’s gay youth, and is insisting that an immediate plan of action be initiated to combat homophobia. Gehring, who is the Green’s youth spokesperson, says that Schroder and the ruling government “ignore and neglect the interests of gay and lesbian youths” and that “her lack of interest in five to ten percent of youths (is) unacceptable.”

28 year old Todd Ransom, an openly gay Mormon took his own life Monday morning, reportedly leaving behind a note that read simply “Sunrise – Accept This Offering.” The native of Utah allegedly spent most of his life struggling to marry his sexual orientation with his Mormon faith, and was one of a number of gay and lesbian Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints who signed up to be interviewed by the makers of 8: The Mormon Proposition, Reed Cowan’s documentary, but who, according to Cowan inexplicably left before he could appear in front of the camera, contrary to other reports that suggest he did appear. “We don’t know why he left, but we had a lot of people who decided they couldn’t go through with it,” said Cowan, who talks to LA Weekly about Ransom’s suicide, and about attitudes approved by the Mormon church that create a climate of such sadness for many that suicide seems as the only answer.

Matthew Vanderpool, the openly gay 25 year old Democrat I previously posted on whom is running in Fayette Country, Kentucky for a seat in the state House said he will not accept an offer of donation from the Victory Fund – a national organization that supports gay and lesbian political candidates – because he has “no gay agenda.” He added that being gay “does not define my entire life or the things I stand for, which are explained in detail on my website.”
