Two Marines In Savannah Georgia Jailed After Beating Gay Man Unconscious, Charged Only With One Count Misdemeanour Battery
Two Marines are in jail, arrested and charged with misdemeanour battery after they attacked a gay man in Savannah, Georgia. According to the police report, at 3:45 am an officer was on patrol when he saw two men running down Congress Lane. Moments later, the same officers received a call regarding an unconscious man. Te officer rushed to the intersection and found 26 year old Kiren Daly motionless with friends performing first aid. The officer then caught up with the two men, identified as 22 year old Keil Joseph Cronauer and 23 year old Christopher Charles Stanzel. According to records, the two men are stationed at Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, South Carolina. When arrested, the two said they were being harassed by a gay man, and were running in an effort to escape. However, according to witness, one of the men grew angry believing that Daly was winking at him and struck Daly in the back of the head with his fist, knocking him unconscious. Late Saturday, from Memorial University Medical Center, Daly insisted that he attempted to convince the Marines he was not winking. “The guy thought I was winking at him,” Daly said, “I told him, ‘I was squinting man ... I’m tired.’” Daly came out only six months, and is expected to be in hospital for at least two days. After Saturday’s assault Daly wonders is the misdemeanour charge against the suspected attackers is adequate. “It leaves me wondering why Georgia is one of the five states that doesn’t have a hate crime law on the state law.”
