In Durango, Colorado Saturday hundreds attended the first annual Gay Pride celebration, Mayor Michael Rendon telling the audience “I’m very proud to be mayor today.”
Saturday, thousands too marched in Mexico City, celebrated the city’s first gay pride since gay marriage was approved by the capital city’s legislature – the first Latin American country to do so – and a number of those marching called on national authorities to legalize same sex unions throughout Mexico.
Reed Cowan, the director of 8: The Mormon Proposition, the documentary that examines the involvement of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in passing the anti-gay marriage referendum in California and the impact of the Church’s rigorous anti-gay stance, has an interesting, if somewhat odd proposition of his own, Cowan saying “I would like to propose to the entire worldwide gay community that they cancel gay pride events until we have marriage equality. All those thousands of people who go to gay pride, those are bodies that could put on a shirt and go into the neighbourhood and tell their story. We should wait until we have equality to have our party.”
Iceland Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, the first openly gay head of a government in the world, married her longtime partner Sunday. Sigurdardottir and Jonina Leosdottir wed as a law passed unanimously by Icelandic legislation legalizing gay marriage June 12th came into effect. The couple entered into a civil union in 2002.
The steam room at Cally Pool in Islington, a family recreation centre in England, has become the place for gay men to cruise, much to the dismay and shock of straight patrons. So popular is the site that Cruising Gays, a webpage, awarded the sauna four of five stars, as well as listing a number of other public locations perfect for the man who prefers anonymous empty sex. Adrian Kelly, a frequent user of the Cally Pool, says “I have no problem with gay people at all but it’s a family pool and you don’t know who might go in there and see something they shouldn’t,” adding that he came upon two naked men “wrapped around each other. I couldn’t believe it. I went in to relax and there were these two guys doing stuff. It was shocking.” Jason Pollock, the chairman of Pride Life gay magazine, who lives in Islington, said “I don’t approve of any such behaviour – be it gay or straight- in a family swimming pool like this. It is not as though there aren’t gay pubs, clubs, bars and saunas in the area where people can go, so it is not right if people are acting like this in a place where there are families and more importantly children around.”
Prince Harry continued his visit to New York City Sunday, the third in line to the throne first participating in the Achilles Hope and Possibility Race in Central Park.
Later Harry rode in the 3rd Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, where the Prince took a tumble, but was unscathed.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal fought to a 0-0 tie with Brazil Sunday, both teams advancing, all of which was good enough reason for Ronaldo to remove his shirt.
