A new CBS poll released Wednesday revealed that 77-percent of Americans polled now know someone who is gay or lesbian, an increase of 35-percent since 1992, when a majority of Americans polled said they did not. The seismic shift contributes towards a more positive perception of same sex relations, only 43-percent of American now regard same sex relationships between consenting adults as “wrong,” which is a 19-percent drop from a Gallup poll taken in 1978.
Oregon Attorney General John Kroger has created an anonymous online way for individuals to report hate crimes, Kroger saying that hate crimes in the state have historically been underreported. He is reviewing records and is preparing a report of bias motivated violence. He added that often media reports of hate crime incidents do not have a corresponding police report. The announcement arrives after white supremacist John Day suggested he was moving to Oregon from Idaho, where hate crime legislation is much stronger.
