From China, reports that an elementary school in Zhengzhou, in the Henan province, has initiated a program called “Looking for a Real Man” to encourage boys to act more like boys, the students, who must take an oath swearing to act like “real men,” taught to act more masculine. The program was created in response to a fear that boys were becoming “more and more girly.”
The European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association has named Sweden as the most pro-gay country in Europe. The most anti-gay countries according to the index are Russia and the Ukraine.
The City of Buffalo, New York celebrates Pride Month, members of the city’s gay and lesbian community joining Mayor Byron Brown Tuesday, as the proclamation was made and a Rainbow flag was hoisted. Dorian Brock, the senior director of the Pride Center of Western New York, attending the ceremony and said “this is the 19th year of Pride celebrations in Buffalo. When they first started, people gathered because we haven’t always been able to gather. Now we gather because we can. We have that support and it means a lot.”
Ricky Martin graces the cover of People en Espanola for the second time, but the first as an openly gay man, the cover celebrating Father’s Day, Martin posing with his two more than adorable twins, Matteo and Valentino, born in August, 2008. The cover is, of course, historic: the first time (at least to my knowledge) that an openly gay father has been honoured. Tomorrow, in New York City, Martin will make his first public appearance since coming out at an event honouring his tireless philanthropic work. The event, hosted by Kylie Minogue, is at the New York Public Library and is called “Black Tie/Black Leather” which sounds, thankfully, so salacious!
I loathe reality television – the reason is simple; it’s hard to accept than anyone else would be more interesting than me – and the upcoming Bravo series Gay Housewives of New York will do little to change my opinion. Starring the loathsome Reichen Lehmkuhl alongside an inordinate number of male models that have never modeled, those prepared to fellate for fame will appear on the airwaves sometime this summer.
