Louise Bourgeois has died. She was 98. An American, born in France, Bourgeois, who attained fame late in life, was known primarily for her sculptures – exaggerated, organic, and sexual in nature – were frightening, deliberately so, meant to suggest an obvious disconnect between need and want, and the availability (or lack thereof) of comfort.
A report from Denmark suggests that the country’s teenagers are more likely to be responsible for anti-gay hate crimes, and that frequently teens take to social media sites to articulate and cultivate their homophobia. Kenneth Engberg, a spokesperson for the Danish National Association of Gays and Lesbians, says that “young people in Denmark today are not inclusive. There is simply no place for minorities. But our association lacks the resources to start a campaign to create inclusiveness and understanding towards gays and lesbians.
Cristiano Ronaldo, seen below at a practice for Portugal’s national team on Monday, is interviewed by the country’s Pubilico newspaper, and is asked whether he has followed the politics of Portugal, including the passed legislation that affords same sex couples the right to marry, Ronaldo replying that “the Portuguese man that I am, I try to keep informed about what is happening in my country. I know the law was passed and the comment it deserves is that we must respect the choices made by anyone, because, after all, all citizens should have the exact same rights and responsibilities.”
