John Raymond Meloche Charged With Hate Crime After Assault In Windsor, The City’s Second Gay Bashing In A Little More Than A Week
A man in Windsor has been charged with inciting hatred after an assault on two openly gay men in the city’s downtown early Sunday morning. According to police, the two victims were in a line at approximately 2:30AM at an area Pizza Pizza. Police allege the three men standing directly in front of the two began making loud and disparaging remarks about the victim’s perceived sexual orientation, and when one of the two confronted the loudest of the three – he told him he should be ashamed of the way he was speaking – he was punched in the side of the head so severely he fell to the ground. The second victim was then attacked, punching in the nose, suffering a broken nose and broken cheekbone which will require reconstructive surgery. The suspect fed, but was apprehended a short while later, but only after he attacked one of the arresting officers. 27 year old John Raymond Meloche of Amherstburg, Ontario is charged with public incitement of hatred, assault causing bodily harm, assault, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. The two victims were treated and have since been released.
